My DD's boyfriend is a junior in college and is majoring in biology. What are some things you can do with a BS in biology?

He'll be able to make a nice living in medical research. Or perhaps he's going to teach at a college. Or perhaps he's planning on graduate school.
Why don't you ask HIM what he plans?:confused3

Apply to med school and get your Master's.:lmao:

My brother graduated with a Chemistry degree and worked at a chemical place, testing & titrating stuff...he just now graduated from Wash. U and got his Master's.

Not really sure..I am sure it is up to the person to pursue their interest path in the job market.:confused3

My DS majored in Biology and is now a third year medical student. :)

Well he kind of shocked me the other night when he didn't seem to really know what he was going to do and was asking me for some suggestions. At one time he planned on doing something in the medical field. He's had some problems personal, legal etc. and he just wants to finish school and do something. I really didn't have any suggestions other than get with his advisor.

I know of several people in medical or pharmaceutical sales who make very, very good money.

Ah, he likes science but doesn't know what to do with it, eh?;)

I work in a biotech company....I manufacture monoclonal antibodies, rabies diagnostic kits, cancer diagnostic kits and do stem research with a Biology degree:banana: This field has no limits with a Biology degree:banana: YES...I know it's shocking that I do this:rotfl:

I think B.S. in Biology is a great major. There are tons of opportunities and a lot of different directions for a career. He should talk to a career advisor.

Pharmaceutical sales is lucrative, but you have to love schmoozing. Is he a schmoozer?

Focus on microbiology, work in a research lab...still have to schmooze for funding, though.

Teach.

Is that where you get your weird animal pictures? Are you cloning/grafting to make monster animals?:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

He doesn't necessarily have to do something that uses bio. Most jobs look for a degree more than a specific one.

Another option is to go to law school to study environmental law or health law. Or if he takes enough engineering-type classes, he could be a patent lawyer.

my dd will be graduating in may with a major in bio and a minor in both chem and micro. She's begun her work search and is very encouraged. Alot of opportunities. She considered grad school and will be going. But the field is so diverse she is unsure what area she wants to focus on. She's going to get a job that will give her alot of lab exp. while she studies the field some more. She's also considering med school.

Interesting thread. This is something my DD is very interested in.

Good luck to all these DIS kids and "kids-in law" studying and entering the real world with majors in Biology!!

I have a BS in biology and a BA in psych. I'm an air traffic controller.:confused3 BTW, we need them really really bad, you might tell him to check into it!:thumbsup2

Double that!!! Sure there are jobs that require certain degrees--but the majority are looking more that you HAVE a degree and a decent GPA (but many of them don't even care about that).

Forensic Science is a career option with a Bio degree- I should know ;)
