Brutality of Crowds Oct. 9-13th?

We are planning a quick trip for the Oct. 10th halloween party and Food and Wine Festival. Also... we may or may not attempt to go to Pandora for the first time.

I am a bit concerned that crowds will be so severe that we are better off waiting for another time to visit? I have a premonition that October crowds this year will be worse than any other time in history and that wait times will be out of control even for attractions that traditionally do not have long waits.

Anyone else have an idea about crowds that week?

Columbus Day for you, Thanksgiving for us, many fall breaks in there for schools and possible Irma re-scheduling.

It'll definitely be busy.

Personally I won't go during this time period again (I was relegated to it like so many others due to my DDs school schedule).

BUT if you've got the trip planned and on the books - just go for it! The wine will help. :-)

We're Oct/Nov F&W folks and we make a point of avoiding Columbus Day, the weekend before and the Tues after. Stumbled into that time frame a few years back and it's noticeably more crowded than the rest of Oct.

We did the same thing a few years ago. The Halloween party was great. F&W was fine during the day up until about 5 (on Saturday), then it got insane. Wall to wall people - you could barely walk thru World Showcase and booth lines were ridiculous. We finally left a little before 7.

We are going to be there Oct 4-9, and I do think it will be really busy because that is fall break for lots of states and people who had to reschedule from Irma, but I am going to just keep a positive attitude and make sure we hit rope drop every day and then spend the busy afternoons at the resort.

There isn't a 2 bedroom DVC room available for any of those nights, not 1, at any resort.
Not only will there be folks at Disney, they are bringing friends with them.

From the crowd calendar estimates, Fri/Sat at Epcot look swamped.
Given that the MK opens at 7:00 AM one of those days, and is open 8-midnight some others, Disney expects the crowds also.

We are going in that period and will be using rope drops, fastpasses, and late nights to enjoy the visit. Daytime down times will be swimming, Disney Springs, etc.

If you don't book a DVC room during F&W 11 months out you're likely to get shut out. Our DVC owner got online 11 months out first thing in the morning to book a standard view studio at Board Walk a few years ago and all of those were gone for our 10 day stay, we had to 'settle' for a pool/garden view. Having been forced to upgrade, we're hooked on these rooms so that's where we'll be in early Nov.

Including this year, we will have gone during fall break (Columbus Day weekend) for 3 of the past 4 years. It is cooler than summer. I have never been during Christmas or Easter, but it has not been as crowded as a typical spring break week. We only miss a day or two of school (this year, we won't miss any days). That's why we keep coming back this weekend. From the things that I read on the board, I may have a higher "crowd tolerance" than most people, but it isn't that bad. It was crazy crowded only Saturday afternoon at Epcot in World Showcase.

I am basing my crowd predictions on some of the more reputable crowd calendar websites, and also the mantra that has been going on since summer that it is no longer the most busy season at Disney and that the fall time might be overtaking it. Also, I have NEVER seen so little availability for WDW hotels... there is virtually nothing available anywhere except a pirate room at for $230 a night at CBR (yeah... because I'm going to pay that kind of money to stay in the middle of a construction pit at the worst themed rooms on property...)

Now I'm not too concerned about our magic kingdom day because it's just the halloween party on a Tuesday evening. Wednesday or Thursday would be food and wine. I'm sure Pandora is still a madhouse of heat and lines that will make you want to cry. Either way, I feel compelled to check it out!

We are going the 10th to the 13th and I intend to have a great time whether it's crowded or not.... I gave up looking at crowd calendars personally... if you know how to tour smart (which I'm certain you do) and have FP for the big stuff that's important to you, then I think it should still be enjoyable. Maybe we will meet some new fun friends in the masses! If you decide to go I hope you have an excellent trip.

Gotta admit, I love the title of the thread. "Brutality" of the crowds... :crutches:
hahaha I would say, maybe they could add a Gladiator arena, but then I remembered that Gladiator is a Universal IP....
That and the spectacle that is "Fireworks Viewing at Cindy's Castle" is pretty much like a gladiator pit...

We had a SSR 1 bedroom from Oct 7-12 was on wait list fro BLT and to my surprise that came through about a week ago.

It could be crowded, with fall breaks, Irma reschedulers and F&W.

But it will be fine. It won't be Christmas/NYE/Easter/Thanksgiving/4th of July busy.

And the whole fall is the new summer thing? I do believe summer is quieter than it used to be and I do believe that fall is busier than it used to be. I don't yet buy that summer crowds are actually LOWER than fall yet.

Brutality in October? Well, I think that the Visigoths clear out by the 10th, but the Huns usually appear around then and stay until the third week. The Mongols often favor the end of the month.

You want brutality? Try standing in an outdoor queue in the middle of July, with 50 or more 15 year old Brazilian girls all chanting as loud as they can. THAT is brutal! :scared:

(take it easy, just making a joke....)

We are going October 8-14th. I have only been in December & January. I am expecting it will be hot, humid, & extremely crowded. I have always wanted to go to MNSSHP (October 10th) & see the 7 Dwarfs. I have a strong feeling this will be my one & only October trip. However, we will make the best of it, love it b/c we are at WDW & I may even use the resort pool for the first time!
