We are planning an anniversary meal. Looking for something close to the BC where we are staying. One of the places we are considering is the HBD. Has anyone been lately? There will be no fantasmic when we go so I would think that would keep the crowds down there.

We were there in December and it was the best meal of our trip. I had the Cobb salad for an appetizer, pork tenderloin entree, berry cobbler dessert and the margarita flight to drink. Everything was fantastic!

Unfortunately they have taken my favorite appetizer (crab cake) off the menu.

We are planning to eat there in a couple of weeks too! I'm nervous though...lol....the steak has gotten really bad reviews.....anybody had a good steak there recently?.....anybody......???????

We were there in August and our meal there was delicious. I had the Cobb salad, the filet and grapefruit cake for desert. My filet was very good. We eat here on every visit. My husband and I were talking about our meal here just the other day because we are planning another trip. We both agreed that our meal in August was the best meal we have ever had here!

We ate there 2 months ago, on a Fantasmic day, and the place was empty. In fact our server tried to "sell" us the Fantasmic package after we were seated.

We eat at HBD almost every vacation because it's the only place we like at DHS. As with most signatures, the menu changes frequently. I don't think the steak is that great but the fish entrees have always been excellent. My youngest son (he's 31) had the pork entree and said it was the best course he had all week (we also ate at V&A, Jiko, bluezoo). Middle son (age 33) had the steak and said it was edible but not great.

I'm thinking about trying the pork...it seems to get more consistent reviews than anything else...and if the filet is bad DH can share with me:goodvibes

Weird question...do you happen to know if your son had the 6 or 8 oz filet? Whenever we get a 6oz (when we eat out here at home) cut it seems to be a bad piece of meat.....wondering if that could have to do with the wide range of experiences here? Just a theory??

I don't know if you would consider a year ago this month as recent, but I can honestly say that I had the BEST filet of the trip at BD. We do deluxe dinning and eat at all of the Signature restaurants so we had quite a few filets to choose from.

Sometimes I wonder if the people who don't like BD have been there recently? It is one of the few restaurants I think keeps getting better.

Seems like most are in favor of it. I may go ahead and book it. Might be kind of romantic having the boat ride without our DS for the evening too.

Unfortunately they have taken my favorite appetizer (crab cake) off the menu.

They changed my favorite entree too (salmon). I had the grouper there last weekend. It wasn't as good as the previous salmon dish, but it was still good.

We were there just last month a few weeks before Christmas. We went down with some friends to see the Osbourne lights.

Out of the six of us, four ordered the filet and two ordered the salmon. Three of the steaks came out undercooked and stone cold. We sent them back and they came out even worse, in fact, inedible. The other three meals were just okay. The cob salad was also disappointing.

There is nothing left, and I mean nothing, in the studios for a serious meal. For a special meal such as your anniversary, I strongly suggest hopping the boat to one of the Epcot resorts (Dolphin, Swan, Yacht & Beach Clubs). If you really like steak, Shula's (Dolphin) is hard to beat and a whole lot more consistent than and of the Disney-run restaurants.

We were at DHS on November 29, had no ADRs & decided to try getting in as walk-ups for a late lunch/early dinner (around 4pm) at the Brown Derby.

We were seated almost immediately, and enjoyed both a great meal and EXCEPTIONAL service. I had the lobster bisque & Cobb salad, my husband had the grouper -- everything was delicious (FWIW, my kid had the hot dog and loved it ;)). We went in with no expectations and left truly delighted. :thumbsup2

We were there this past Christmas, and we loved it, it was our first time there. We all had the fillet and all of our really enjoyed it, the mash potatoes were really good too. For appetizers we had some sort of spring roll with lobster, and the cobb salad which was really great. The desserts there was really good as well. Our family usually picks steak or some sort of seafood and by far the worse steak we got was at California Grill, three out of four of us got the steak and it was disappointing, and one of us got the snapper and it was soo fishy and not good at all. We also went to Yachtsman Steakhouse, and the steaks there were decent but way too salty, the best steak we had was at Flying Fish.

But I think restaurants have their off days, you can go to a restaurant on two different days have two totally different experience. Which we did since we were there for two weeks, and went to same restaurants , multiple times lol

We went there for the first time this past trip in mid December and we loved it. We will certainly be back. We had the filet and loved it. It took a little longer timewise, but we were out in an hour and a half. Then again, if you ask me, that seems like a good time frame for a nice sit down meal.

On our trip in November, we tried a different signature every night, with this being the last one. We actually cancelled Yachtsman's Steakhouse to eat here so we would be right there for late EMH. We were definitely unimpressed by the service here, and after some of the other signatures, it didn't feel as "special." That being said, I had the 2nd best filet of the trip here, and LOVED the dessert. The margarita flight was also great! My parents didn't love their meals (and I can't remember what they ordered), but a big part of it was the service and it's not on the must-do for us next trip.

As others have said, everyone has opinions and they could have just had an off night! But, for a special meal, I'd probably pick a different signature (California Grill and Narcoossee's were the ones that were the best for us).

Both of us had delicious 6-ounce filets at HBD in December. However, for a special occasion, I would recommend Flying Fish. We had a birthday celebration there and loved the atmosphere, service and food. The birthday girl received a keepsake menu and a complimentary glass of champagne. I'm still dreaming of the crab cakes.

Our experiences have been good enough that we're going back twice in June. I had the filet last time, and while I don't remember it being an extraordinary meal, it was good enough that I would probably order it again unless something else caught my eye.
