Hi everyone! We are heading to the Bronx Zoo next week and I was wondering if anyone can tell me about it. I know they have extra excursions (skyfari, children's zoo etc.) and I would like to know what we shouldn't miss. Last time I was to the zoo was probably about 30 years ago (if I had to guess) and I do not remember much about it so would love to hear from those who have been there more recently.

That's my favorite zoo in the entire country!

Don't miss the safari, that's cool! :bounce: Keep an eye out for tigers! They appear out of nowhere because they blend in with their surroundings!

Don't miss the butterfly house! It's beautiful and serene! I just love it!

The children's zoo is a must see, whether you're traveling with little ones or not. It's a nice spot for a little respite.

I haven't seen the new gorilla exhibit! You'll have to report back to us when you get home!

Have a great time and let us know how you liked the changes! :)

The New Gorilla exhibit called CONGO was fabulous. You do know that if you go to the zoo on Wed that it is free admission and then you just have to pay to get into some of the houses and the rides which I think are about 2.00 each Also the petting zoo which is pay to go all the time. We usually go to the Bronx Zoo once a year and needless to say we haven't gone this year yet so I am looking to go in the Fall just me and Dorian.

the gorilla exhibit was wonderful -- they look at you while you look at them. the monorail safari in Wild Asia is wonderful, too. there's a brand new exhibit called Tiger Mountain, which I haven't seen yet. I do love the butterfly house.

I love the zoo, don't get me wrong, but all the special exhibits do cost extra $$, so you have to be prepared.

In fact my friend Lisa and I are members and go almost monthly.

Do NOT miss the CONGO Gorilla forest. It is the most amazing gorilla exhibit I have ever seen. Go early as it can get crowded. There is an extra fee for this exhibit, but the money goes to help save and preserve gorilla habitats in the wild. The floor to ceiling windows are designed so the gorillas can come right up to the windows and they often do. The little ones are amazing and will spend large amounts of time staring right back at you. As you go down the hallway on your way to the exit one of the older females often sits there watching. If you see her, stick your tounge at her and watch what happens next!

There is another new exhibit called Tiger Mountain. They have taken the tigers out of the Safari area and given them their own exhibit. It is a bit similar to the tiger exhibit in animal Kingdom, but worth seeing none the less.

I would recommend packing a lunch as zoo food is pricy and they do not mind you doing so.

Have a great time and try to get there as the zoo opens....it does get more crowded as the day goes on.

A word of advice. Don't go on a free day. ( Avoid Wednesdays (admission is by donation that day, and we're always packed!)
This is the day when all the camps go and it can be very crowded. The special exhibits also do cost extra $$ on these days. You will love the zoo. Plan to spend the whole day here there is lots to see & do. Enjoy.

I was just there three weeks ago with 25 four year olds.

Make sure you visit JungleWorld. The rainforest was amazing. I had to drag the students out of there.

I plan to go back sometime this summer with my son and a few of his cousins. Maybe then I get a chance to really take in everything.

Make sure you hit the safari.

Thanks for all your replies and advice. I can't wait to go!! I hear there is a POP ticket (pay one price) anyone know anything about that?
