PBS had a show called "Broadway's Lost Treasures", clips of performances from the Tony shows over the years. gems like Zero Mostel singing "If I Were A Rich Man", Robert Preston's "Trouble", John Raitt's "Hey There", Julie Andrews' "Send in the clowns," Carol Channing's "Before the Parade Passes By" ... and, of course, Jerry Orbach as Julian Marsh in 42nd St., singing "Lullaby of Broadway."

This sounds like a great show. I am sorry that I missed it.

Julie Andrews singing "Send in the Clowns"?

Was that from a review, or did she really play the part? She doesn't seem the Desiree (sp?) type.

Only 2 problems with that show:

1. The show was obviously done in the 70s so they were bringing back songs and couldn't always get the original cast members (that's why Julie Andrews, and not Glynis Johns who was in A Little Night Music). Not anyone's fault, but some of the 70s overtones really took away from the original magic (i.e. Adelaide's Lament from Guys And Dolls).

2. It was Beg-a-thon season. 4 songs and they were begging for money. I just wanted to see the clips!

you're right, a lot of the clips were from the anniversary show they did in the 7-'s. but a lot were from the actual Tony awards show -- like "A New Argentina" from Evita. I didn't see evita until after the Tony awards (and after Mandy Patinkin left the show, sigh...), though I'd [layed the cast album to death, and I remember watching them perform on the tony show and being overwhelmed by the staging.

the DVD will come out in a few months, with extra footage and NO BEGGING!
