I know there are a lot of Broadway fans on the DIS, so I was hoping you could help me figure something out. A local-ish dinner theater recently announced their 2010 season, all but one show. The last show isn't being announced until March.

Using the paragraph below from their web site, can you help me figure out what the show could possibly be?

Throughout the history of The Fireside Dinner Theatre we have strived to continue to bring our audiences the very latest and hottest shows from Broadway and around the globe. And this season we have a show so new and in demand that we can’t let you know just yet what it is. But trust us when we say you will love this award-winning musical comedy of stage and screen. This smash hit has just recently ended a successful Broadway run and The Fireside is ready to give it a brilliant professional production as only the Fireside can! So watch for this Broadway blockbuster which we will announce in March of 2010!

So the big clues seem to be:
1. Award-winning musical comedy
2. Just ended a Broadway run
3. Is a stage production, and movie

All I can come up with is Grease...it seems to fit all three clues, since I know it just closed on Broadway. I wouldn't call that the latest and greatest show though.

Any thoughts? I don't want to wait to March to find out! :)

Oh, I bet its Hairspray!

Thanks...I knew you'd be able to figure it out!

hairspray or Shrek or Legally Blonde...

hairspray just ended.. Shrek is ending in Jan to do a tour, legally blonde ended a few months ago

I'm not sure, many of these have strong potential, though I doubt that Shrek begins regional performances so soon, they will go through a few years of extended national and international tours before it is released for performance.

It isn't going to be Grease or Hairspray. Grease has been available for performance for years by regional theatres, high schools, community theatre, etc. And Hairspray was released for performance last year, I believe.

After checking out the website and realizing the theater is a dinner theatre the only show that fits the clues has a movie, is a comedy and the rights are available is Hairspray....

Its not a regular theatre its a dinner theatre so it wont be a touring company...

Edited because I missed that it's a comedy. I was totally wrong!

I agree with Hairspray.

RENT! It's a Tony award winner, ended it's Broadway run last year, and it's a movie. May be considered more serious than a comedy but it has humor in it!And I know the rights are for sale because our local high school produced it last year.

While I agree Rent has some funny moments, I don't think anyone would ever classify it as a "musical comedy". I cried my eyes out every time I saw it :( So I'm sticking with The Producers.
