Broadway Club

I just got back last night. it was AMAZING.

We had a dance workshop with the dance captain/female swing from Shrek and she was so nice!

We also had an audition workshop (cold read, presenting yourself, quick dance sequence from One Short Day) with Sean McCourt. He's currently in Mary Poppins, but he was in Wicked's original cast, cocreated the Behind the Emerald Curtain tour, and is two voices on the Wicked soundtrack:

My favorite: In One Short Day, he's the dude that goes, "The wizard will see you now!"
and he also does Elphaba's dad, I think in No One Mourns the Wicked.

He was super nice too and I had so much fun. Depressing that I've been up all night making up homework, but so nice.
I'll tell you guys all about the rest of my trip tonight.

I'm dying to see a Broadway show!
My grandma said she might get me tickets for my next birthday or something.

I can't choose between:

Mamma Mia!
Bye Bye Birdie (my junior high did this last year, I know the entire show)
Mary Poppins

[EDIT: I didn't know Legally Blonde's been off-Broadway for almost 2 years! They're still touring though, just not anywhere near me.]

Mamma Mia! is a great song. The singing isn't exactly the caliber of, say, Wicked, but it's a fun, campy show.

If you liked the movie, you'll like the show.

Personally, I'd go see The Lion King instead of Mary Poppins.

I'm seeing Shrek: The Musical on November 21 :teeth:

I think I'm going to end up choosing between Bye Bye Birdie and Mary Poppins.
I guess I'll just have to see how things work out.

Shrek was super cute.
Hopefully you get to see Sutton, she was injured the day we were supposed to meet her.

We did meet up with the Dance Captain (female) the next day and learn the dance to "Freak Flag", though!

So I saw:

Shrek: The Musical. Soooo sooo soo cute. Parodies several plays- if you saw the Tony performance, you know what I mean ;)
We saw the new "I'm a Believer" ending, and it still has some kinks to work out. Farquaad is so talented to dance on his knees the entire play, and I was geeked because I could see backstage from where I sat.
Favorite Songs?: Who I'd Be - Brian D'Arcy James has an AMAZING voice. (He's leaving in November, though, along with Sutton and Daniel Breaker)
I Know It's Today- Okay 10 year old Fiona- adoraabblle.
Freak Flag- I cried, I don't know why, but it was so funny seeing all of the rejected fairytales, and Pinocchio without his makeup (saw him afer the show) is so freaking cute. The Wolf was my favorite fairytale creature "They called me a hot tranny mess!"

Next post: Billy Elliot review.

Sutton's leaving in November?! Oh no!

The Good Wikipedia said that only Brian was leaving! :(

But I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

Billy Elliot- Also amazing! I was falling asleep because I'd been up and running since 3 AM that night with only one meal at Goodburger (Welcome to Goodburger, home of the Good burger, can I take your order?) so it had nothing to do with the play.

We had Alex Ko as our Billy and he was adorable (have I said that word enough? ;)). The dancing this kid does.. wow.. wow wowowowowow. The songs were just background to make way for the beautiful dancing. Don't get me wrong, I love the songs, but they really were not the star of this show. The crossdressing kid, Michael, was my favorite and stole the show whenever he was in a scene, especially during bows when he wore a tutu (spoiler: the whole cast, men and all wear tutus in the end) and was waving to the audience.

Favorite songs?:
Electricity: pretty song followed by a great dance sequence
Angry Dance: No words, but the dance.. wowowowowow.
Solidarity: Just really catchy, and I don't know why xD
Expressing Yourself: Crossdressing boys, dancing dresses, what's not to love?
Dear Billy: Made me bawl. i was a wreck after this, partially from lack of sleep and mostly because of how beautiful it was.

OMG All That! :teeth: [/dork moment]
Anyway...Shrek was good? I'm looking into getting getting tickets to a show for my next birthday (August `10)...I don't know which to pick...

Shrek was good, nothing mind-blowing or anything, but cute and pretty funny. We were in the fourth row on the left and I really loved seeing backstage more than any play-goer should :p

Haha(:
I'm probably gonna go with Bye Bye Birdie, even though it's been drilled into my brain, thanks to my junior high musical. :teeth:

Wikipedia says that Brian D'Arcy is the only one leaving the cast soon? Did they tell you something different? I'm dying to see Sutton Foster.

I saw Cabaret last Friday at Trinity Rep (local small theater). It was AMAZING! Everyone, if Cabaret is performing near you, go see it! Or rent the video (Liza Minelli, Joel Grey).

Favorite songs:
Don't Tell Mama
Wilkkomen
Tomorrow Belongs to Me
Cabaret
Two Ladies

It's a bit sexual innuendo-y and dark, but it's awesome.

The emcee (basically, the narrator) is dressed in drag for the whole show :D

I dunno, I read it on broadway forum-site thingy.

OMG like 2 of my Playbills shows Stamos in Cabaret (his first role) and I was loling.

LOL. Alan Cumming pwns in that role. I found out that Adam Pascal was in the revival of Cabaret as well, as the Emcee.

LAWL. Adam Pascal. In drag. XD.

Okay so: Next to Normal
If I had to rate this, it would get 1,000,000/10 it is an AMAZING show.

We had Aaron Tveit's understudy, Tim Young, who still had a wondeful voice and stage presence as Gabe (a very menacing presence on stage). Besides, I'm almost happy we had him because later on we found out that the actor playing Boq in Wicked is on Next to Normal's bowling team! Alice Ripley. Wow. What can I say about her. I thought her voice was better in person compared to the soundtrack, but although she was strange when I met her, she captures Diana perfectly.

Henry = love. All of the girls in my group were so in love with him and we all took pictures with his "big picture" on the street-facing stage doors.

This muscial is so perfect in so many ways. It's captivating, heartbreaking and doesn't really have a happy ending. It's... hopeful, but by no means "happy".

Favorite Songs:
ALL!!!!
My Pyschopharmacologist and I
I Am the One
You Don't Know
I'm Alive
I Miss the Mountains
Perfect for You (Heeennrnrrryryryryry <3)
Superboy and the Invisible Girl
I Dreamed a Dance
A Light in the Dark
Didn't I see this Movie?
How Could I Forget
Hey (1 and 2)
Why Stay
Next to Normal
I Am the One (reprise)

Favorite lines:
Why thank you doctor, Valium is my favorite color! How did you know?
And you're not a scary rock star anymore!

Favorite Moments:
I Dreamed a Dance conclusion (sick, I know)
Henry's apple bong
Rockstar Doctor scene xD
You Don't Know

Next review: Wicked

OMG!!! OMG!!! I'm so excited!!!
I got my early Christmas present today...tickets to see RENT when it comes to my city. And Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal are going to be coming too!!
I am so in love with Anthony, and I can't believe I'm actually gonna get to see him and hear him sing!!!! :lovestruc

Lucky! Have fun!

So.
Andrew Lloyd Webber has cancer. Supposably it's in the early stages and he'll be back to work the end of this year.
They're making a Phantom of the Opera 2 movie. (NO!) Perezhilton posted that the lead singer of the pussycat dolls was being considered as Christine (DOUBLE NO!). Luckily, she wasn't and these two other broadway people got picked. I'm not so happy about it.

Then I read something about them maybe making a Mamma Mia 2?
This is ridiculous.
