I'm looking to move over to broadband (ADSL) internet access at home. Can anyone recommend a good ISP? Tell me about your experiences good & bad.

Cheers
Mick

I use PIPEX and pay £23 a month for the 512Mb service.

The setup was free and the service is good and reliable.

All you have to pay for is the ADSL modem and plug it in! Easy!!

Thanks for the recommendation Simon. We were lookin at Pipex a while ago when considerin BroadBand but got put off by the jargon (bein non-techy and internet deficient) It seemed to me, whichever way we read it that we still needed to pay an ISP (say, retain our current AOL sign-up) AS WELL as Pipex. So am I right that Pipex is an ISP in it's own right (for e mails etc) so we could do away with AOL and have full broadband facilities etc for only £23 a month?

I know it's a stupid question, but I am a really stupid person (and you can all shut up an'all!!!;) )

Thanks for yer patience!

Although I don't have any personal experience of PipeX, I've read that they've had their problems recently. See this BBC article:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/2307157.stm

I have my ADSL service with Demon (£29 a month) and have been impressed. Service has been reliable, their HelpDesk helped me through some teething problems when it was first installed and generally everything is as it should be. A good place to read reviews of different providers (with an active user forum) is www.adslguide.org.uk It's a bit 'techy' but there is lots impartial advice to be had found there.

Rob

Hi,

We are with AOL Broadband and used to pay £34.99 per month, but now they have just reduced their Broadband cost down to £27.99 per month!! (yay!!).

AOL is a great ISP. Each family member can have their own 'screem name' and a certain amount of webspace is reserved for you. The Tech support is GREAT and you have a number you can ring to speak to helpful staff or you can type in the AOL keyword 'Techchat' and chat over the net with a friendly trained AOL staff. Broadband automatically signs you on when you turn on your PC and you don't require a second line to be able to use the main home phone. AOL also has free parental controls and a great Instant Message facility. I highly reccomend AOL and I have found the service exceptional. If you have any questions please ask, I'd be happy answering them.

HTH,

Regards,
Richard.

All i can say is that i have had no problems with PIPEX. I do also have Freeserve ADSL at my workplace. This costs £29.99 per month. Again absolutely solid service with no problems.

Dave - you do not need any other ISP account as PIPEX and all the others mentioned do everything including email etc.

I know MAPMAN (Steve) has PIPEX and he says its really good. It may be worth PMing him for a second opinion

Regards

Simon

Didnt know that i was logged in as Theresly :S

I've got Pipex too. Overall the service is great but during September I was unable to connect at various times. This was probably due to the engineering work going on.

HI MICK
