British Airways- Avoid

i agree that the seat assignment on BA is terrible! I had no idea, as we are gold card holders so can always book online...

I think that is a dreadful service.

You must have been looking at similar flights to us Andrew Derek Uk... as ours have gone down by near enough £500 per person... but we just werent going to go at the nearly £1000 price tag - so Im really happy they have come down..

still that is no consolation to you... BUT you did get on the flights you wanted to... and actually you might not have been able to with the reduced fare ...

Thank you and good points, hopfully you will get the flights you want, I think this has all happened re T5, and Business class customers all not booking with BA, as its thoose fares that have fallen. This ididn occur last year, as i was checking all the time to see if there is a pattern.

i imagine you must be a bit hacked off with this but what if it was a £2000 increase would you have offered to pay a bit extra:rolleyes1 the reason i ask my flights for this year are now showing at over £1000 more than i paid for them and there is no way im offering to pay extra

I like BA, but even I'm flying with AA this year. It's £200 cheaper for my trip :upsidedow

Glad I fly economy and have a £500pp budget, would be so annoyed, I felt bad enough when I had bought Virgin Miles and Money seats to LAX at £375 +2,000 miles then they had a sale a few week later and full price was about £345, felt cheated then, would be gutted with your figures:mad:

Just had a look at my flights for 14th August and they've gone up by about £800 for the 4 of us!

Thank you for the comments, I think its down to there isn't any 'logic or pattern' to when and where its best to book a flight at the best price.

The 'would you pay an increase' is a good point, sometimes we do, government action tax added, or changes to luggage rules in limits.

The amount I mention is in excess of £2,000 for four people, if it moved a small amount I wouldn't and couldn't quibble about it, but thats a lot of difference and basically can it be honest and justified?

I checked flight prices for a year in advance, basically at least weekly, to try to understand the price pattern, I thought I had it worked out.

As mentioned, I did not expect a refund of the difference, albeit nice if offered, but maybe, to retain good customers paying for Club world a gesture they would like my business, nothing big but a gesture that I had paid for more than other people.

I feel your frustration, I really do, but I do think you are being a tad unfair to BA, especially with your thread title - and I speak as one who has recently defected from BA after many years over their seat selection policy (and I only ever travelled business/Club or WTPlus) . Now I get the joys of Virgin's poor record on flight delays to stress about instead :rolleyes1

I seriously doubt that any other airline would have treated you differently - it is the nature of fluid pricing in the airline industry today, as you know. Yes £2k is a lot of money even for 4 people at £500 each, but as a % per person, it's probably no different to what others have experienced when travelling economy and prices come down, eg: business flight drops from £1500 to £1000 = 33% drop, economy flight reduced from £600 to £400 = 33% drop.

Comfort yourself by taking another look a few days before you depart and the same seats could cost thousands more in business ;)

I think you're being unfair, too. You pay your money and take your choice. If you want to fly with BA you pay whatever price they're offering. If it's too high, you go elsewhere. I'm not blaming BA because their ticket price shot up by £100 for me to fly home from a different airport to my original airport; I just went to a company who COULD offer me that at no extra charge.

I'm afraid that the fact that it's Club World makes no difference. The price of the seat is the price of a seat. That's like a Gold Card holder demanding that they are allowed an airmiles seat on a flight were all the air-miles tickets are already gone.
BA couldn't care less about occasional Club World travellers. They're after the guys who fly transatlantic twice a week in Club World, and even they don't escape the price fluctuations (which are based on a complex computer matrix).

I had a very pleasant experience with Virgin Holidays a couple of years back. I booked our holiday about 14 months in advance thinking I'd get the best deals. A few months later I looked at the prices online and saw that they were now doing free childs places. I emailed Virgin explaining my disappointment that I believed by booking early I'd get the best deals and they replied straight away and refunded the £400 I'd paid for my daughter as a gesture of goodwill. That was my first holiday with Virgin and I'm just booking my 4th due to the excellent customer service I've always had from them.

I think that is very good customer service from Virgin, !:thumbsup2

Oh no

But I have to ask - how much did you pay in the first place?
