Bristol Palin and DWTS results

Bristol has publicly apologized, on FB, I believe. So are we to hold this against her, and her mother, for the rest of their life?

Only those people who were absolutely perfect in their teens and 20's, and now have perfect teens and 20 year olds who would never ever do or say anything wrong. There is no shortage of them here on the DIS to hold this against her, her sister and her mother, maybe even throw in the rest of the family too because you knnow they were all raised the same way
Being in the school alot, I've heard a few of those little angels when they aren't around their parents, sounds alot like Bristol and Willow ;)

The rest of her life? Didn't this JUST happen?
She apologized because she got caught. My opinion of these girls is based on the fact that they use these words so nonchalantly. It sounds like a natural way for them to talk. Sorry but if that was my 16 year old daughter I would be pretty upset.

It really seems like this household has a lot of problems with the kids - Bristol getting pregnant, Willow getting arrested, and now the world can see, in their own words, what kind of girls they really are.

Yes it just happened. Just seems like some are pretty worked up over it, and making a pretty big deal out of it because of the girls last name.

What makes you think her parents weren't upset? I would bet money that both girls got a good chewing out by both their parents. Of course, this is just my opinion, I don't know them personally.

Sort of like a former Delaware resident now working in DC, whose daughter was caught snorting cocaine? At least what the Palins did wasn't illegal.
:rotfl2: legal or illegal, I'd prefer to see my kids use cocaine and hurt only themselves, than to use hate speech and hurt other people.

Yes it was Biden's 27 year old daughter. Pretty much out of grounding range and not living at home, which again seems a bit different than underage children living under your own roof. And then we have Barbara and Jenna, who were charged with using a fake ID to buy margaritas in a Texas bar even though they were under the legal drinking age of 21. The list goes on, and all of these things were covered by the press. I have never understood the argument that "others have done bad things, too" as an excuse. My kids would lose just about every privilege I could think of if I found them to be using homophobic language. It would just not be tolerated, and if they dared to say that "other kids do it" as an excuse, their punishment would probably be doubled.
::yes:: It's a lousy excuse, and seems to be used mostly when there is no legitimate way to deflect the criticism.

I agree with ya there.

So you'd rather your kids use drugs than hate speech? :scared1:

I did read on TMZ that Willow's Facebook account has been deleted, so hopefully, that's one action Mrs. Palin took.

If my kid did anything that stupid, it would be a long, long time before he got his paws on a computer in my house.

I should have said this a page or two back, but if Bristol is pregnant again, there would be her next foolish and immature stunt.

Well, yes, I agree, it would be foolish and immature. But we don't know that it's true. I really hope it's not, because it would not be just about Bristol, it would also be about a sweet, innocent baby/child.

As much as a small part of me would be amused by the irony of it all, I sincerely hope not too.

You know, really, that wouldn't bother me.

She has the financial resources and familial support to care for another child. If she will love and care for and raise another child to the best of her abilities, and she decides she wants to give her son a sibling, then its none of my or anyone else's business if she does so. Whether or not she does so within the bounds of wedlock make no nevermind to me. She's plenty old enough to make her own childbearing decisions.

I would, however, expect her to STOP being a teen abstinence motivational speaker, if this were the case.

And something else--I don't get why Mrs. Palin didn't instruct her children to not respond to people criticizing them on-line when she signed them up for the TLC show.

I would have expected her to tell them something along the lines of, "doing this show puts us all out there and not everyone loves us. You'll encounter lots of haters, so be careful not to be baited into arguments." I mean, really, this is something that these kids should have been prepared for, and there wouldn't be any need for an apology if they had acted correctly in the first place.

Just wondering how we know that she didn't instruct her kids on possible criticism.....Just because kids are prepared for something doesn't mean that they will apply it at the right time.

And it's one thing to get into a verbal altercation with someone--then it's "he said, she said." But an on-line fight is there in writing for the whole world to see forever. The stupidity of the whole thing is just mind-blowing.

One of the most important lessons I've learned as a parent is that I need to "predict" or anticipate how my child will react to certain situations, so I can head it off before it becomes a big problem. Apparently, Mrs. Palin has not learned this lesson because if she had, her daughters wouldn't have been anywhere near a computer without adult supervision. Although she may have thought Bristol is an adult...

Yes, the stupidity of teenagers is often mind-blowing. Their actions do not always match up with what they know to be right. It is easy to predict a young child's behavior, but try to predict a teenager's behavior....they will blow your mind just when you think you have it all under control. I am not a fan of Sarah Palin, but it seems we are passing a lot of judgement on something we know very little about.

Yes, being that my child is a teenager, I'm aware of that. I guess it is fortunate for both him and me that I am still able to foresee some situations where he might get in trouble and head them off.

What I was saying in the first place is that if I thought my 14 year-old couldn't control his emotions enough to stop himself from responding to on-line criticism, he wouldn't be on the computer.

Wow, and I was told I live in a fantasy world :lmao:

Exactly! It is the way we deal with the consequences of our choices that matters. :)

And Bristol made the choice to be responsible for her actions, so why can't people lay off of her? :confused3 I'm no fan of the family, the party, or the tv shows - but I really hate to see girls like Bristol and Jamie Lynn Spears constantly picked on by the media and people on these boards b/c they chose to have their babies.

Maybe some people should think about the hate speech they direct at teen moms and the constant stereotyping a little too. Just b/c teen moms aren't a protected group doesn't mean it doesn't hurt and that it's not wrong.

Thank you, and now I will take my points like a good girl ;)

I agree with you.

The same people who filled this thread with cruel, disparaging remarks about Bristol, the Palin family, DWTS fans who vote for Bristol, the Tea Party, etc. are now suddenly outraged with Willow's language.

And the same posters who have gleefully engaged in name-calling, ridiculing, and mocking just happen to have children who would never, ever name-call, ridicule, or mock.

The hypocrisy on this thread is overwhelming.

Can you believe the quotes coming out of Sarah Palin's new book about what she thinks of the talent on American Idol? From the AP report on her book:

Bristol Palin has been featured on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars," but Sarah Palin has a few words for Fox's "American Idol." She refers to "talent-deprived" contestants who suffer from "the cult of self-esteem."

"No one they have encountered in their lives — from their parents to their teachers to their president — wanted them to feel bad by hearing the truth," she writes. "So they grew up convinced that they could become big pop stars like Michael Jackson."

What a hypocrite. How can she have this opinion and still sit there and promote her daughter as having enough "talent" to be on Dancing with the Stars above people who actually know how to dance. She is entitled to her opinion but I guess in her mind this just doesn't apply to her family. Enough with Sarah Palin and her reality star wannabe family.

no one used hate speech - especially NOTHING compared to the language and attacks the Palin girls used!

Calling someone thise names is hate speech - saying a teenage and out of wedlock pregnancy is nothing to be proud of - is not

we are just expressing our opinions based on THEIR OWN BEHAVIOR - not calling them names or using hate speech.

that comment above is truly hypocritical and could very easily be applied to Bristol on DWTS! Cult of self esteem? Her DD is trying to make a career based on TV apperances and on becoming a celeb (with nothing to offer)! I said it before, she would be much better served furthering her education - but I doubt her family puts much emphasis on that!!! Seems they all want an easy in.

she must not have much respect for her own DD given that comment and the fact that Bristol is on a show like DWTS, huh!
