Bristol Palin and DWTS results

And it's one thing to get into a verbal altercation with someone--then it's "he said, she said." But an on-line fight is there in writing for the whole world to see forever. The stupidity of the whole thing is just mind-blowing.

One of the most important lessons I've learned as a parent is that I need to "predict" or anticipate how my child will react to certain situations, so I can head it off before it becomes a big problem. Apparently, Mrs. Palin has not learned this lesson because if she had, her daughters wouldn't have been anywhere near a computer without adult supervision. Although she may have thought Bristol is an adult...

Nah, just until she pulls her next foolish and immature stunt. And mark my words--we won't have to wait long. :p

Ok, marking your words.

Nah, but discussing it the same week it happened doesn't seem outrageous. Considering that people have been claiming that she is getting votes because she seems like such a nice, down-to-earth person, I think her comments raise some valid questions. When there is so little else to look at among her accomplishments in her albeit young life, her words are some of our only insights into the person she is, as opposed to the person she is portrayed to be.

But it isn't the voters who are deciding whether she stays or goes. Bottom line, it's the producers and executives of the show who are deciding that. They want her to stay because they can get a lot of mileage out of all the "talk" about Bristol Palin, in the various news media outlets. It's good publicity for the show..whether it's positive or negative talk about Briston.

I understand what you're saying, but if a parent heads-off too many situaitons for their child, they will not learn how to deal with certain things themselves, once they get out into the real world.

It amazes me that many seem to think they know how the Palins parent their children. You (in the general sense) don't know how they parent unless you are there, living under their roof, over the years, to see how they parent.

And that is your opinion, with which I disagree.
I personally think it's a combination of both. I think that the producers have leaned on the judges to give her softball scores and that her mom's fans are coming in to seal the deal.

I absolutely agree with this. And, I think that is why, in part, when Nigel Lythgoe left Idol to help develop So You Think You Can Dance he added in a layer where the judges actually decide in the early rounds who goes home rather than leaving it up solely to the voters -- because he wanted more expert control and not have it just be a popularity/who's the cutest contest.

Just google "Willow Palin arrest" and you'll see plenty about it. I must say that Willow sounds like quite the little spit-fire. If they put her on DWTS next season, I'll have to watch.

From what I was able to find, everything is being based on what the National Enquirer reported. So, yeah, not that great of a source there. :rotfl: Maybe it's true, maybe not.:confused3

Speaking of rumors, I also heard that Bristol is pregnant again.

Heck, I look back at the things I did as a teenager, and even in my early 20's and wonder "what the heck was I thinking"? My parents don't even know some of the stuff I did and they never will!!! :scared1: I can't imagine trying to grow up and live in their shoes.

No, that's not whay I'm saying. Times were very different back then, and I think you know that.

I am saying that we should expect maturity!!! Many times people live up to expectaions and to say people are not mature until their late 20's lowers expectations and offers excuses.. IMO

I am not just saying this only about your post ... I have heard that point of view before and I disagree with it....

Me too. I certainly was no angel.

I hope Bristol is not pregnant again. Maybe it's just a rumor.

Sort of like a former Delaware resident now working in DC, whose daughter was caught snorting cocaine? At least what the Palins did wasn't illegal.

Don't be so vague! Who are you talking about?

I think they are talking about Biden's daughter. I think there was an incident probably a year or maybe closer to two years ago.

I agree that the National Enquirer isn't a credible news source, but I do think that if Mrs. Palin used her political influence to get her brother-in-law fired, she'd have no problem using that influence to have criminal charges against her daughter dropped.

I saw it mentioned on this thread that Bristol looks like she's been gaining weight since DWTS began while every other contestant looks like they're losing weight. Pregnancy does have a way of packing on the pounds, you know. ;)

She should know better. Hopefully she learns from this and doesn't do it again.

But give me a break. When your kid is 16 and someone says something nasty about your family don't be surprised if they break out a few curse words - fingers crossed it isn't this one, retard, or gay which are commonly used by the teenage population these days.

If anyone thinks their kid is going to make through high school without dropping an inappropriate word at some point or another you're kidding yourselves.

Was it right? Heck no. It doesn't mean SP doesn't have control of her kids though (and no, I'm not a fan). If Willow is punished appropriately and learns her lesson I'm okay with that. I find the word disgusting, but I'm under no illusions that it doesn't happen on a daily basis kids her age - parents just don't know about it.
but he didn't say something nasty about her family. All he said was "Sarah Palin's Alaska is failing so hard right now". To me, that means he doesn't like the show. Anyone who lives in Alaska and doesn't like the show has every right to comment on it on their FB page, whether or not the Palin sisters are their "friends".

If you look at the PDF of the conversation, the boy only states his opinion and immediately Bristol and Willow jump in with profanity, then the whole thing deteriorates into name-calling and trash talk, the worst being Willow's use of the slurs.

I know that plenty of teens talk this way, but around here, parents teach their kids to be much more careful about what they put in writing. I get on FB with dd's password, so I know I'm not seeing a filtered version and I hardly ever see profanity (and while she's only 13, she has tons of older "FB friends" from dance.) The rare times I've seen it, the kid who uses it is immediately called out by another kid, and that's the end of it.

When you put something in writing via email, text, or Facebook, you have to assume that it's there forever, and everyone will see it. You have to be more careful than you are in spoken conversation, no matter whether you're in the public eye or not. Again, this is something my 13yo understands. I'm surprised that Bristol and Willow have not learned it yet.

This!!

I would have expected this to be instructions she gave all of them a looong time ago!! Like back in 2008!! "Kids, there will be a lot of times that people will try to engage you in some pretty hateful discussions, you'll need to learn to keep your cool and just not respond..."

I would think that for children of ANY political figures this would have to be a pretty standard skill...
I think this is a skill ALL kids need to learn, public figure or not. Kids bait and bully other kids for any reason or no reason, and all kids should be encouraged to ignore it. If the girls can't handle someone saying their show is "failing", what are they going to do when the kids say something really mean?

Sort of like a former Delaware resident now working in DC, whose daughter was caught snorting cocaine? At least what the Palins did wasn't illegal.

And this has what to do with the Palin daughters? Or Dancing with the Stars?

Is it just me or are people pushing the the envelope of the "no politics" rule?

As far as Bristol being considered to be an adult, I think she's 20, but even 20-year-olds don't necessarily use their common sense at times. Most adults don't fully mature mentally/emotionally until their late 20s, and some even older than that.

Bristol has publicly apologized, on FB, I believe. So are we to hold this against her, and her mother, for the rest of their life?

The rest of her life? Didn't this JUST happen?

She apologized because she got caught. My opinion of these girls is based on the fact that they use these words so nonchalantly. It sounds like a natural way for them to talk. Sorry but if that was my 16 year old daughter I would be pretty upset.

It really seems like this household has a lot of problems with the kids - Bristol getting pregnant, Willow getting arrested, and now the world can see, in their own words, what kind of girls they really are.

Yes it was Biden's 27 year old daughter. Pretty much out of grounding range and not living at home, which again seems a bit different than underage children living under your own roof. And then we have Barbara and Jenna, who were charged with using a fake ID to buy margaritas in a Texas bar even though they were under the legal drinking age of 21. The list goes on, and all of these things were covered by the press. I have never understood the argument that "others have done bad things, too" as an excuse. My kids would lose just about every privilege I could think of if I found them to be using homophobic language. It would just not be tolerated, and if they dared to say that "other kids do it" as an excuse, their punishment would probably be doubled.
