Bristol Palin and DWTS results

:thumbsup2

I don't have a clue how good or bad she is. I wouldn't watch this year because I won't watch anything with an agenda involving her. I think DWTS has completely jumped the shark and I only get my feedback on what's going on here.

Agenda? What do you mean? You think her mother put her up to this?

There are hundred of articles about it. This one is a pretty good summary: http://www.torontosun.com/news/world/2010/11/17/16183031.html

Well, where have I been? :rotfl:

And this is going way off-topic, but I have to comment on this quote from one of the articles:
"Willow Palin is a child, and she is not fair game," Tommy Christopher wrote at Mediaite. "Willow and her Facebook playmates weren't thinking about the rash of suicides related to anti-gay bullying, including young kids who were not, in fact, gay. They didn't create a world where gay equals unequal, they are a product of it."
I completely agree with him, but his last sentence sounds so complacent. It doesn't have to be that way. My dds don't believe that gays and lesbians are unequal, because my dh and I are teaching them that they ARE equal, and the 13yo knows that if she ever used words like that on FB, she wouldn't have FB anymore. ;)

Again, if the Palin's are going to put the spotlight on their children, such as Willow appearing in Sarah Palin's new show, then I think that her words become fair game. This is not a random 16 year old being called on her actions, this is one that is appearing on national television. And, while it is easy to say that kids will be kids, not addressing early instances of homophobic slurs is, in part, what makes adults think it is ok to use them as well. Why not address the behavior early and stop it in its tracks? Particularly in this time of bullying leading to an increase in teen suicides, particularly among gay teens.

I agree fully that mine would so lose internet, facebook and probably their phone for quite some time. Can't make them perfect, but goodness we can monitor them the best we can. Wish all politician's children were off-limits but that will never happen. Chelsea Clinton turned out amazing even though she was put through the ringer. The Bush twins had some brushes with rebelling, but their integrity and kindness have really been shown over many years. On the whole, I think the majority turn out pretty well.

They have apologized. Apparently, it was an insult first about the new TV show their mom has. Talked about the dancing etc. Willow called the kid a slur that begins with F and ends in T. Bristol called the kid gay and insults were flying bad. Whole thing is just sad and frankly these kids were put in a pressure cooker and kind of left to the wolves. I feel bad for all concerned and I think at some point the parents need to be monitoring things a bit closer. I know when my son posts on facebook because I get his updates sent to my phone.

Here is one link. It has been all over the web all evening. http://www.aolnews.com/surge-desk/a...-homophobic-slurs-around-on-facebook/19721860 Here is another where it mentions that Willow was the one who actually was using the homophobic slurs and calling the kid disgusting and fat etchttp://omg.yahoo.com/news/report-willow-palin-uses-homophobic-slurs-in-facebook-rant/50828.

wow! now that is really low and immature - especially for someone Bristol's age!!!!! Makes you wonder about the upbringing.:sad2:

you've got that right - same here!!!!:)

my DD is 13 - and she would never use such hateful words or think to bully someone like that!!!

Hmm, this is a tough one. I absolutely agree that these actions must be addressed, but I believe her parents need to be the ones to do so, not the media or the masses. I remember how brutally Amy Carter was treated, and have thought it wrong ever since (though the situations were quite different).

On the other hand, I do believe most bigotry is learned at home, and I certainly believe it's fair to discuss the environment that gives rise to children/teens who would speak this way to other people.

:scared1:

I think anyone that is under age should be treated wi certain sensitivity in the media. Bristol is a mom and should be more media savvy but Willow hasn't endured the criticism the same way. Kids are bound to make mistakes and I know in many places these words are used commonly just as many other derogatory comments. It doesn't justify heir behavior but I hate for these kids to be bashed constantly because of their mother. Media is quick to forget adultery, drinking and driving etc but when it comes to certain political figures and their children there is a different standard which is evident here as well.

Bristol is an adult, she is 20 years old. I really don't think her parents need to be monitoring what she posts on FB. She needs to take responsibility for herself.

I hate to hijack this thread, but I have to comment on Willow's comments. SP wants to run for the white house in 2012, she needs to control her own children first. She's 16 years old she should know better then to start sending words like that to anyone. Yeah, she's a teen, but even my 12 DS knows better then to disrespect someone like that. He defended a child the other day when some kids called one of his friends that word.

She should know better. Hopefully she learns from this and doesn't do it again.

But give me a break. When your kid is 16 and someone says something nasty about your family don't be surprised if they break out a few curse words - fingers crossed it isn't this one, retard, or gay which are commonly used by the teenage population these days.

If anyone thinks their kid is going to make through high school without dropping an inappropriate word at some point or another you're kidding yourselves.

Was it right? Heck no. It doesn't mean SP doesn't have control of her kids though (and no, I'm not a fan). If Willow is punished appropriately and learns her lesson I'm okay with that. I find the word disgusting, but I'm under no illusions that it doesn't happen on a daily basis kids her age - parents just don't know about it.

::yes:: Unfortunately, this is SO true. I often check in on my 14 year old's Facebook page and I can't believe the stuff I read from other kids, thinking "don't their parents monitor their Facebook page". :confused3

The words are used ALOT by most teens, sadly. :sad2:

She's getting plenty of negative publicity about it and that's punishment enough for me. Her mother doesn't have to do a thing. Some things are best learned without a mother getting involved. I think she's learned her lesson that people are watching and listening and she better mind her p's and q's.

Your 12 year old has plenty of time during his teen years to do what typical kids do. Even the best kids have weak moments when peers are around. We all have our weaknesses, but what we do with them and correct ourselves is what matters. I hope your young man stays the good person he is. :thumbsup2

Bristol's doing so well on this show that I think her sister Willow ought to be on it next season.

For such a young girl, that Willow already has so many accomplishments under her belt--burglar, vandal, Facebook fighter, etc. Adding "dancer" to the list would really round out her resume, don't you all think? :)

:thumbsup2Hey, Bristol can dance better than I can. That said, she should be gone IF it was a real talent based program. It's not. It's America going as crazy as possible. That's entertainment!!!!

What about Willow, the 16 year old.
Well, she's not allowed to have boys upstairs. Guess SP thinks 'upstairs' is the only place two consenting teens can do 'the deed.'

Facebook is an awful forum for anyone who expects their family to have any kind of a private life.

Oooooo.... I missed the burglar and vandalism thing.... where-when was that?:) Yeah....this family is sabotaging themsleves thanks to their mom. No one has to do a thing to them. It's kind of like my DH does at my family's house on the holidays.... kicks back and has a beer and watches it all unfold!:rotfl2: It's all self inflicted. Sara needs to quit blaming the "lamestream media" for everthing and take a look in the mirror.

Just google "Willow Palin arrest" and you'll see plenty about it. I must say that Willow sounds like quite the little spit-fire. If they put her on DWTS next season, I'll have to watch.
