Bris ???

Jews learn abotu Christianity by virtue of the fact that it's the majority religion. I know a heck of a lot more about it than many Christian know about Judaism. I can only go on what others post with regard to what their churches do; my apologies for not intuiting further.

As another poster said, Christianity comes from Judaism, so it makes sense to know something about it. There isn't a real reason for Jews to study Christianity. Heck, the coverage of world religions in my high school social studies classes was so superficial as to be worthless and, in some instances, wrong or misleading.

Whether a shofar sound pleasant is often up to the person playing - much like a trumpet and sound pleasant or horrible depending on the person wielding it.

Hello, I see much discussion has occured since I was on last....

The Bris was held in a rather large temple with many attending...

It was very meaningful...the baby did cry , but not for long at all.

The atmosphere is happy but very reserved....
The naming was done in the shul (SP) right after and his name is Ethan David
David was chosen in remembrance of my father...very special. My Neice and my father (her Grandfather ) shared the same birthday so it is very special.

The baby is beautiful and just a joy to see.

I think some have been too harsh on TOV....if people did not have a sense of humor then that infamous Seinfeld episode would not have been made... The mohl cutting his finger....

I also will be giving away my age but does anyone remember the Saturday Night Live skit....when they held a circumcision in the back of a car to show it's smooth ride.....complete with shots of a car jostling over potholes?? It was hysterical.... Classic SNL!

As to anyone here asking about rituals they have never heard of ...I think it is great that you learned something new...no shame in that....

I don't think that even on the DIS anyone can claim to know every ritual of every Faith!!

Personally I don't think that attending a Christian seder is anywhere near the same as being Jewish and celebrating one.....it does give you an understanding of what is done but the deep meaning of their heritage and history..makes it much different...

Its almost like a non- christian putting up a Holiday Tree!! LOL ( OK lets not go there perhaps I should have quit while I was ahead....)

Lets all strive to be more positive, open and accepting of other Faiths....the world needs that now more than ever!!

I'm glad that you went. And, I'm glad that it went well. YESYES! I remember that SNL commercial! That was really funny! I had forgotten about it, but it immediately came to mind when you mentioned it!
What a beautiful name, too. I hope he has a long healthy life!
