Bringing your pets with you...

I have dogs and children....do I still get to be in the haters group??? Will that cost me extra???

We bought the motorhome so we could take our pets with us. We have 2 yorkies who usually travel with us. We also have an old lab mix (15yrs.) who only goes with us on shorter trips. If we can't bring our babies, we have a friend (pet nanny) who comes to our home and stays with them. We do on occasion have business functions where they're not welcome. (Go figure!!!) But other than the rare occasion, they always travel with us.

We have two dogs and they are our family. My wife and I are unable to have children so we treat our pets as if they were kids. We started camping three years ago just for the purpose of being able to take them with us more easily than staying in hotels. We always pick up after our dogs and get just as upset as non pet owners do when others don't show the same courtesies.

We're just back - well not "just" - it's been about a month but I'll have to start a thread on "why driving straight through only for gas stops can cause life threatening blood clots to the driver". Our lives have changed thanks to our Disney trip but not in that magical way :scared1:

ANYWAY - dogs - we bring them. One is small, one a labradoodle. Neither are barkers, both get their "leftovers" picked up as soon as they go.

We arrived at FW only to be placed in a full-hookup, non-pet loop. They messed up! (does this EVER happen at WDW?!?) They placed us next to a pet loop and we had to suck it up. UNFORTUNATELY, our neighbors didn't suck it up - they just thought it sucked. We had one set accuse us of sneaking our dogs in - another set told us to make sure they didn't pee on the ground in this loop. Some of it was said to our young children.

I do believe that this was our worst experience to date with the Fort. We seriously considered having our pet papers blown up and posted outdoors ala the Mickey Head light just to prove FW knew we had dogs, we paid for 'em, and they can take it up with management.

I know people without pets do not necessarily want to camp next to someone else's but this was above and beyond pet dislike. Ruined our camping trip this time around though we did tend to relish the time away at the parks a bit more!

I really understand and respect all of your point of views and opinions.:) I really love my dogs and wonder with training and a brain transplant if they would make good camping companions when my kids are grown and gone? But, that will never happen. Without a miracle they will be too old or dead before the kids leave home!!!!

I agree about not having a perfect campground. There is one in the North Ga mountains that is about as close to perfect as they come as far as location, amenities and beauty. EXCEPT for the fact they have too many rules and are the most unreasonable people on the face of the earth. They always ruin someone in our groups weekend when we camp there. You actually cannot leave the campground after 10pm unless it is an ABSOLUTE PROVEN emergency. They lock the gate and do not give out the code. You have to park 1/2 a mile away and walk to your car if you want to leave after 10pm or before 7am. Guess that is worse than dog poop!

And, now that you mention it Shannone1, unsupervised children are worse than any dog any day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:thumbsup2

Sounds like the COE campground I looked into near Atlanta. Sure, I can understand them not wanting folks in after certain hours of the night, but I couldn't get out either before 7am. The particular trip I was investigating it for I needed to be out of there with my camper by 6am.

It is awful to spend all that time and money going to WDW and not enjoying yourself. YOu should have told the "mean people" to take it up with the Outpost since they put you in "their" loop. I can't believe they said your dogs couldn't pee on the loop. we have been there at many different times of the year, I find the winter campers tend not to make the atmosphere as fun and loose as people who are there to enjoy Disney. I hope your next trip is twice the fun to make up for this one. you can let WDW know how you feel here https://secure.disney.go.com/wdw/contact/contactUs?bhcp=1

No to FW beacause the only time I stay there is with my sister in her RV (I'm cheap) and I copme alonme.

Yes to every place else. The dog would disown me if I didn't take her. We do have trouble with her though. The last time I took her she drank my beer and started running with the local cow herds. Not a pretty picture.

Wow...I can't believe someone would actually say anything to you. They have no idea what your situation is and have no right to confront you about your pets. Let them take it up with the outpost if they have a problem.

I guess I've always thought of the non pet loops as loops for people traveling with no pets, NOT for people that didn't WANT to be around pets. FW is the only campground I've been to that even had seperate pet areas.

I'm sorry this experience took away some of the magic from your trip. :sad2: In other news....are you going to any great CG's here in Mi this season ?? :cool2:

Oh wow, this is horrible, I'm with you my trip would have been upset because I like everyone to be happy.
It's so hard for me to beleive that some people that camp hate animals so much, it just seems so funny to me. My biggest nightmare for me is for my cockapoo to pee on someone elses truck tires.
I have noticed a little bit of attiude developing from some people at the fort, I guess they feel like as much as they pay everything should be catered their way.

another set told us to make sure they didn't pee on the ground in this loop

I would have found out what camper they were staying in and then when they were gone, I would pour/squirt some water with some yellow food coloring on the tires with a little puddle forming on the pavement just next to the tire. Then to top it off I would drizzle it on the way out of the camp site just a little and squirt some more on the number site post. I would then place some rubber poop I purchased at the magic store or maybe some Babe Ruth chunks just off the edge of there site out from the awning. :rolleyes1

It's like I said earlier...Disney created this problem by segregating non-pet owners from pet owners. It gives some people a sense of "entitlement." Kind of like having seperate bathrooms for certain folks, or sitting in the back of the bus. Get the drift? There should be NO pet loops, first come first serve on sites. If you don't like pets or children then go somewhere else.

You are so bad ! :rotfl2:

We have a year old Sheltie(Shetland Sheepdog) Toby and we have a one eye cat named "Ojo" sounds like "O-ho"(Spanish for eye).pirate: I know..that sounds wierd.(both my kids take Spanish in school) Ojo was a stray that dropped out from under my daughters car last June, when she saw him she said "oh his poor little ojo is hurt". It stuck. He was not yet four weeks old, and only a pound. He had been dragged away from his littermates probably by a Raccoon or something. His eye was injured, and at first the vet thought it was just an infection, but it turned out it was bitten in the attack. So..'Ojo" needed surgery..and lets face it who else would want a one eyed cat? :confused3 So part of the family he is. Although, I'm pretty sure for same money we paid the vet, we could have gotten a cat with two eyes! Anyway, he looks like a little stuffed animal with one of the eyes sewed closed, and honestly I don't even notice it anymore. He is a tough guy..acts like he owns the place.

Toby our Sheltie is Ojo's best buddy, and they are two pea's in a pod. Since Ojo had no mama, Toby sort of took over the role. They hang out in the yard together, and Ojo tries to follow along when Toby goes on his walks. They sleep back to back..and eat each others food. I call them Fur brothers..I know..my son thinks that stupid.:rolleyes1
We would love to take Toby on trips, and we took him several times last summer ..only we found out Toby gets car sick. Yep..I thought it was a puppy thing he'd outgrow. NOPE..he barfs every hour or so.:scared: Poor thing hates the truck. My vet said there is a new medication on the market now, so we are going to be trying that for our next trip.
So, that's my story, one dog that pukes:crazy2: , one cat with one eye. pirate: That's us... :grouphug:

What a great story phyllis...your last line is too funny!

i LOVE cavalier king charles...been thinking that may have to be my next dog. How is their temperment? i am normally a cocker spaniel kind of gal or a golden. I love the pics that were posted!

Maybe I'll rent a petloop site and see if the pet owners pick on me for not having a pet....walking around "their" loop not letting anything pee anywhere. I might even run behind them when they are walking their dogs and scoop up the prizes before they get a chance to....boy, ya think that would be confusing???

You bought one of those electric dogs!!!! It seems like they would make them wireless so ya dont have to use such a long extension chord for taking them out on walks. They could have chosen a better place to have the chord coming out of. :)

That's funny, I don't care who you are..:lmao:

You crack me up!

We do plan on taking our dog she really does not like it when I go to work, but she has accepted it. She will not mind waiting in the trailer for us to come home, she's used to 8 to 10 hours between potty breaks and we never have a problem. She goes potty on demand so that makes it much easier to deal with the timing of everything.

And her cord never gets in the way
