bringing your own wine to dinner

IMO, that doesn't make any sense. If DCL allows you to bring alcohol on board, you are not "bending" any rule by bringing a glass of wine to dinner.

Now if you poured your bottle of wine into a flask and brought it to dinner and poured multiple glasses of wine to avoid the corkage fee, that's bending the rules.

A glass of your own wine is not an issue.;)

I agree.

Honestly though, I have no interest in being the wine police. Better things to do with my time. I could care less what others bring in to the dining room....or don't bring in.

No one answered the question before....

Would you book a meal at home in a nice restaurant and then as their wine is expensive bring your on glass of wine in,

IMHO, most people wouldn't as it isn't the done thing, its not polite, so why do it on a ship?

I am all for people being able to bring booze on ship, its a great perk, DCL is one of the few Lines that allow this, but if people bring it in flasks in their pockets or pour a glass out to avoid a fee, it will go.

No one answered because it's not the same thing. It's not an accurate comparison. I don't answer silly arguements.

I bring a glass of wine in to dinner each night. I pretty much stick with the same types of meat and I like a certain wine with it that Disney doesn't carry. I only drink one glass the entire meal so I see no need to carry the entire bottle around the ship.

Every now and then I will hear from my server (either in the main dining room or Palo) about a great new wine they have that complements the meal I chose very well. I go by their recommendation and I will order a glass for the meal. But all in all I know what I like and would rather have it. But in small amounts.

No, but this is completely different. Carrying a glass of wine into a free-standing restaurant would look downright strange. Doing it on DCL looks no different than stopping off for a pre-dinner drink at one of the lounges and then carrying the drink into dinner with you.

The problem is that you tend to think that your way is right for everyone. You need to understand that other people think differently (sometimes very) and that's okay. Just because we don't agree with you doesn't make us heathens.

Again, the bottom line is that it is not against DCL's policy to carry a glass of wine to dinner with you, nor is there a fee for doing so. Until that policy changes we will continue to pour our glass of wine in our stateroom and bring it with us.

If you bring a drink to dinner, how would the server know whether it is from your room or the bar? I brought a bourbon on the rocks to dinner every night and it was NEVER even hinted at as being a problem.

Exactly!

Actually the free standing restaurant question is apples and oranges. I believe in that case there's some legalities behind bringing outside liquor into a licensed establishment. So it's irrelevent really. Those sort of laws don't apply in this case.

But going back to my original question...
I'm not asking because I'm too cheap to buy their wine. In fact I usually purchase the wine package. I ask because as a wine consultant I have access to really unique, incredible wines not found just anywhere and I wanted to share with my tablemates. I asked about the corking fee because I didn't know if the had one or not, and in addition do they consistantly charge it since I've now heard from people that were never charged the fee.

While they may not consistently charge the fee, you should expect to pay it. If they charge you then you pay it. If they don't then consider it a bit of pixie dust.

I just had to pipe in because my tablemate on my last cruise brought a glass of her own wine to dinner every night while I had the wine package and sometimes I shared with her and sometimes she shared with me (she brought 9 bottles from home - 15 night cruise).

And when I visited her after the cruise and we went to dinner at a cafe across from her place, she took a bottle of wine from home and the bartender not only opened it for us at the bar but also got a decanter to poor it into. So yes, I guess I would take a bottle of wine into a restaurant at home. :rotfl:

We never got a corking fee for our wine, but I think it was due to use spending most of the night in the restaurant (last sitting) and finishing the wine!

Our experience was truely aewsome and we can't wait until next time.

Just curious to know...do the servers get commission on the drinks you order at the dinner table ??

On our last cruise we got married during our trip, and several kind fellow dibbers, from our dibb meet, had bought us bottles of wine & cava....which we then took to the restaurant with us each night, as we did not want to have to fly back to the UK with them in our luggage (and very good bottles they were too !).

However, we distinctly felt a slight frostiness from our servers, when we produced the bottles (especially on the second & third time), even though we were perfectly prepared to pay the corkage. .....we wondered if we had denied them some kind of commission /tips on the regular restaurant drinks ?

Though we had planned on paying corkage, I should say that on at least one occasion they waivered our fee because we had just got married, so they were not real bad about it.....but there was definitely at least an air of disappointment when we produced the bottle....enough to make us feel uncomfortable in having done so.
Just made us wonder that's all :confused3
