Bringing snow globes aboard Delta?

Just ship them home so much easier and if they are broken in transit Disney will replace them. It happened to my mom. She shipped home a bunch of ornaments about half were broken, Disney replaces the broken ones no questions asked.

A checked bag is one that is not carried onto the planewith you.It is loaded onto the plane by baggage handlers and you pick it up in baggage claim a the airport.It can cost you $20 and up to check a bag depending on the airline ( Southwest is free).I would NOT but a snowglobe in a bag even if it is well cushioned.For one it will increase the weight of the bag, and airlines now charge more for overweight bags.Second,If you saw how some of the baggage people handle the bags , you would think twice.They throw,fling and shove bags on top of bags with no regards as to what is in them.They don't have the time to handle with care since they are trying to get planes loaded an unloaded for connections etc.Have Disney ship it home, it is just easier
We have a pretty large snow globe collection and those things are heavy, plus the box is large, so it would take up a pretty good sized spot in your suitcase.
Also keep in mind its not just water in snowglobes. Its a combination of things and will leave a slimely oily mess if it breaks usually full of glitter, not to mention the disappointment of getting home to a broken treasure.
we had one break once at home when someone was looking at it and dropped it. We also had a shipped one that broke in transit. I would second the slimy, oily mess.

We bought and carried some home in e days when you could still carry them on, but now, I would ship any we buy.
 
We've traveled with snow globes in checked luggage many times including trips from Europe back to the States. If the snowglobe is packed properly it's just as safe as shipping it.

We usually have the store pack it in bubble wrap and a box and then we wrap it in dirty clothes in the suitcase.
 
If your buying them at disney just pay to have them shipped that way if they break disney will replace them.
 
Another vote for shipping. I had one break on me, even with wrapping in clothes and wrapping. some times checked luggage gets really roughed up. August my son had a Samuri sword shipped from China in Epcot. super easy and I think shipping fees were $10 bucks tops.
 

I would just ship them home. It seems like much less of a hassle. Especially since it sounds like you're buying mutiple ones.

We've also had swords shipped home from Japan & China in EPCOT. If you have them sent right from the store I believe they said that Florida tax is not applied and that made up for the shipping cost. If you buy them at another store & then have them shipped from your hotel or the PO you pay the Florida tax & the shipping. I don't know if the tax part has changed in recent years, but this is what we were told.

OH yeah, I forgot about this neato factoid. Last we were there (last year), it was still in effect. :thumbsup2 It's GREAT! So it's better to decide right there as you purchase to shop so you can skip the tax. You can't do that later if you change your mind.
 
I suppose everyone has had their own experiences to share, it's clear. :lmao: I am almost positive I will end up shipping them because I am afraid that they might break. Especially since I believe the luggage is handled well, not so carefully. Thanks to everyone!:thumbsup2
