Bringing Medications on an Airplane

I have a few prescription medications that I need to bring with us. If I carry them on, do I have to bring them in the original prescription bottles? I'd rather just take the pills I need.

TSA says "Medications in daily dosage containers are allowed through the checkpoint once they have been screened."

They're not really worried about pills anyway as prescription drugs in pill form and over-the-counter pill medications are allowed to be carried on. Their focus is more on liquids/gels and they ask (maybe require) that such medications be declared at screening points - particularly if the container exceeds the 3.4oz./100 ml. limit.

My sister was stopped and questioned as to what those pills were. It would be less chance of rejecting if they were in their proper container, especially if travelling international.

I live in the states now and my Mom comes out from the UK to visit me 3 times a year. She has a mountain of all different medication pills that she needs for her heart and like you she only brings enough for her stay. She gets a note/letter from her doctors office to show to the airlines to prove she is on the medication and they accept it no problem. It was one of the airlines that advised her to do this. As long as you have proof with you the medication is yours and your doctors information on the letter you will be fine. She just carries the letter with her every time she travels. (And boy does she travel...when shes not out here she somewhere else on the globe!!!!) Good Luck and have a great vacation.!
