Bringing ice into an Indian restaurant? OK to do?

Because ice being available is pretty much expected by 99.9% of all folks, even if they choose not to take ice?

Hey, I can tell you the story where Maggiano's INSISTED we must take the bread ( well really it was just the waiter ) they offered, when 3 people at the table we sat at were on Atkins and didn't want the bread on the table.

Is THAT service?

I worked at Outback years back, when their motto was "No Rules, Just Right" - and it included anything and everything.

They didn't want bread - they didn't get bread. They wanted a steak with american cheese on top - done. No Rules, Just Right.

I also worked at Olive Garden before that - actually was a trainer. They also had the same rules (just no snazzy catch phrase about it) If it was on the menu, even if it was in other dishes, we could make it. Mussels with broccoli, tomatoes, garlic on penne pasta smothered in bread crumbs and topped with olives and Italian dressing? No problem.

If I brought bread to a table who specifically said they didn't want it, and that table asked for a manager, I'd be in deep.

he really didn't tell the whole story.....did they ask for no bread upon the first meeting with said waiter/waitress?

ETA: on ATKINS at an ITALIAN rest??? please.

Are you serious!?

I love my water ice cold but I drink what is offered.

So, let's say you're in WDW, and you order a nice Coke or Pepsi, ( whatever they serve ) at a counter, and it's 95 degrees out, and they give you a warm soda with no ice.... you're just accepting it with a smile?

I highly doubt it.

It doesn't really matter. Iff a sever brought out bread and the table said "No thanks" - server's are allowed to take it away. You take away other plates. No difference.

And actually, it's a great place to do it.

A big ol' anti pasta salad.

Chicken Alfredo with broccoli substituted for pasta, smothered with romano.

Spaghetti and Meatballs (or sausage) with asparagus (or zucchini or squash) substituted for spaghetti, loaded with parmesan.

Yep - you can absolutely do low carb at an Italian place. I've done it and seen people do it. :thumbsup2

Yep, and this will be my last reply to ANYTHING you ever post.... My wife and I made arrangements to go to Maggiano's in Charlotte with my inlaws. They never told us they were doing Atkins til we got there. In fact, it was a new restaurant that they had never even heard of.

So, what did they do? They ate the steak and salads.

Ok, now we're done. Don't expect any future answers.

I'm late to the thread, but wanted to mention that it really is against health codes (in some areas, at least) for restaurants to alllow patrons to bring in any outside food or drink. As silly as it may seem, I imagine that would include ice. I know lots of people who always bring Splenda or low fat salad dressing with them when they go to restaurants. They always ask if they can use them, and almost always are told that it will be fine for them to do so. A few times, though, the restaurants have not allowed them to use their own products because they do not ever allow any outside food or drink at all.

Personally, I wouldn't bring in ice (especially to a place that chooses not to offer it for a reason as opposed to just having a broken ice maker)- but if I really wanted to, I definitely would ask before actually bringing it in. Some restaurants might not allow it. If ice was a big deal to me, I'd probably just get take out and use my ice at home or I'd go eat somewhere that did have ice.

now I know there is a God!

I think inflection on the "you" would have been better than the "anything"....

Why the low blow, lilly? Time to see a psychiatrist for your anger issues.

no anger issues and PD cleared it up after my post -- I mean, if you are on Atkins why a pasta place?? But he had no clue, he was a host.

If you really want to know, why don't you post a new thread asking, and I'll post a nice long reply explaining how to do Atkins at a pasta place.

Yep, gotta agree on this one. Italian just isn't pasta. That was the nice thing about doing Atkins, well aside from missing my pasta and bread, but I got my Italian fix.
Unfortunately for me though Atkins and my gallbladder didn't get along.
