Our last cruise was 12/3/05 on the Magic. It was my 4th cruise on the Magic and our first with the ship in it's Christmas mode. It was truly wonderful! We tried early dining for the first time on that cruise and it just wasn't for us. We had the early, early (5:30) time and it felt more like lunch, so back to late for our next cruise (11/13/06) and for all the rest of them. :teeth:
.
Yes, we called it "Linner" all week.....I am swearing off early FOR LIFE!!!!!

I don't have a lot of time to post/read, but Tony (atigeg) and I will most definitely be holed up in stateroom 5650 for the repo. I am already excited (and already trying to figure out how to drug myself up enough not to freak out on a half-day plane journey).
Barb
Yippee!
and as Hannosmom said above...there are PLENTY of drugs to get you there!!

The roundtrip transfers at $50 pp are pretty reasonable compared to their usual.

Is anyone going to book the hotels DCL has on offer for us?
So the transfers would be from where to where????
From the airport to the DCL hotel to the ship the next day...plus Port Canaveral to MCO..that WOULD be a good deal...can anyone confirm that.... :cool1:
And has DCL offered any hotels yet?
I know it is too early for airfare...it would be cool if DCL would do a charter from a few major cities on Thursday evening before the cruise...okay, I know, wishful thinking......
I haven't checked the website.....

GrayFal,
I too, am wondering how all of the transfers and airfare will work. I added the DCL airfare package to my ressie and I'm not even sure what I'm getting. According to my statement online, $950 covers my fligts from MN to Barcelona and from FL back to MN. That seems WAY cheap! Is Disney going to get some kind of a deal? I guess we'll find out more as we go.

Also, the transfers are broken down on the on-line ressie to show rides from the Barcelona airport to the ship and from Port Canaveral to the airport. I guess I'm just going to leave things as they are for now. As we get closer all of these details will become very clear.

Ok, I can't resist...any of you Panama cruisers do adult crafts last August? I know the chicks in my group had a blast with them....except for those dang windchimes! Anyways, if you are an adult crafter, raise your hand! I might have met you already and not even know it!

Erica ~ Definately report on the Member Cruise! Missed Last Year's due to the fact it was right after the PC Repo! Boss wouldn't have been too happy with that one! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: So I promied myself that the next one I would take, not expecting it to be the this year! Oh the sacrifice! :lmao: :lmao:

As for crafts, never did get around to that! Always seemed to be at a "Tasting" of some sort instead!LOL

question for people who have let their 10 yo have the run of the ship before. I know they don't give you a beeper when they reach that age and I wondered how comfortable you felt with that arrangement for your kids. My DD will be 13(almost 14) and i know she is not going to stick by his side the whole time...any expert advice?

NYCMickeyMom, when we cruised in February on Royal Carribbean, we let our son(10) and niece (11) have mostly free run of the ship- we left notes to each other in the cabin and had specific times/places to meet each day so that we could check in with each other. Of course, they had to stay together at all times, too. It will be a tougher call on this cruise since we aren't bringing our niece. Our DS will likely still have a great deal of freedom, and hopefully we'll get a decent comfort level with some of the other 12 year old boys on the boat...

sjcubedofct- thank you so much....i'm sure it will be much easier to get an idea once we are there....though we will be going over all kinds of scenarios and what to do until then....we do have extended family going and one cousin(12girl) will be in his age group, so i'm sure it will be the time of his life!

Ok, the best part of this is there are approximately 200 Mothers watching out for these kids!

DD who was in the Stack for the first time during the PC Repo, was warned that there are "eyes" watching!

They will usually "hook up" with friends and hang!

pyramid2000, to answer your question, my group of 12 has early dining. My dad is one of those old-fashioned-grew-up-on-a-farm types. He can't eat dinner any later than 6:00 or he's in a grumpy mood! Funny, most of you are worried about feeding your kids at a certain time. For me, it's my 60yo father! He he he!

I read this today and laughed out loud (My gosh they are gonna have me committed here at work) because this is my situation as well. My DH, who is knocking at 60, gets grumpy as well. I am trying to talk him into late dinning with the plan that he can snack before hand to hold him over.

My pleasure! We're all seeking the same thing- a fun SAFE vacation for kids and parents alike! :) And trust me, having been on RCI and Disney, I feel much better about Disney. No casino to worry about. And I think that adults on the Magic tend to be more congnizant of the kids on board...

For us, it is a matter of setting basic ground rules....

-ALWAYS stick together with your buddy (a cousin makes a great buddy!).
-ALWAYS stick to public areas of the ship- no hanging out on decks that are primarily cabins- ie, decks 1, 2, 6, 7, or 8.
-ALWAYS be aware of the nearest castmember's location.
-ALWAYS take the stairs. (it's just good exercise, very open and public)
-NEVER go into ANY cabin with anyone other than me or my hubby.
-No one else's parents are your parents- we are the only ones with our son's best interest in mind.

Basic ground rules plus the common sense we've instilled in our son has gotten us this far. This cruise is different since we don't have a built in buddy for him, but as Scratch mentioned, lots of moms are watching. :)

On the RCI cruise we took in February, there was an interdenominational service the Sunday we were on board, it was neat to meet other Christians, and an easy way to know a bunch of faces on the first day on board. Granted, we've got the advantage of the DIS board, so we'll have a bunch of folks we're acquainted with, but I'm looking forward to a service on board the Magic. :) I'll have to check a past navigator....

Have a great day, everyone!!

Sherry

ok, finally found you guys---(i'm a new-bee)

we will be joining you. DD 10yo, DS 3y.o

cat4 (hoping for cat3--wait list!)

smores

Welcome smores!

Glad you found us. You'll enjoy this lively bunch.

I read this today and laughed out loud (My gosh they are gonna have me committed here at work)
faireygodmother, I'm glad I got you to laugh...I've done the same thing. I read a post a work and the laughs aren't always easy to contain...Here's hoping neither one of us gets too many stares!

As for crafts, never did get around to that! Always seemed to be at a "Tasting" of some sort instead
Scratch42, perhaps we could petition for DCL to intermix "tastings" with adult crafts....that would make for some interesting crafts! Actually, DCL might want to consider MORE time between such activities! Last August, they had martini tasting and "Drawing with Ducky Williams" the same morning. I know my DS drew a pretty messed up Mickey after her martini tasting! Too funny! :lmao:

Better go work out...but I can think about is lava cake! Wish me luck!

As a few of you have come "over the pond" to visit us on the DLP board, thought it would be rude of me not to come over and say hiya :wave2:

Dee, I am laughing out loud at this too :rotfl2:

Our Darlin' Jeanna - cjsmom97 - also had that 'old relative problem' that had us on early "Linner" the last cruise....dear old dad was 52 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

Thanks and HELLO :thumbsup2

sjcubedofct- wow! all great things! I know by the time 16 months roll around, I will be much more secure with the whole idea....we actually have in our group kids that are 17, 13,13,12,10,7, and 3 .....yikes! looks like so many when you write it down. I have another question regarding themed dinner(s)....does anyone know who has done a repo if they do more than one on the 14-day? Do you know when they will let us know so we can something cool together?

I'm wondering if you guys can help me. I got a PM from someone a couple days ago who has never posted on the DIS boards. They told me about another website that has information about this cruise. They couldn't type the name of the website, had to tell me how to type it (eliminating spaces, adding dots). I replied and asked for more information and they haven't responded. Has anyone else gotten something like this? This sort of thing makes me nervous. Why wouldn't they be able to type the name of the website?

Sherry,

My son's name is Bryan. He does know we're going and I've been telling him about other kid's in his age range as I'm reading about them here. He's quite excited. However, he's only going to be a couple of months shy of 13 when we go so he's not too impressed that he STILL can't hang out in the teenager areas.

Actually they did give us a beeper but the kids never used it, and it sat on the night stand for two weeks. My 10 yo made friends both onboard and before the cruise via email, and was allowed to leave the kids' club as long as she was with friends. Mostly she went to the drink station and scoops for ice cream. She will be 12 on this cruise and the same rules will apply. I also have one who will be 14, and old enough for the teen club this time. She made friends with others her age through email prior to the Panama Canal repo cruise, and still keeps in touch. They hung out together every day. There were so many in our group that any misbehavior could easily be noted and get back to the parents; the kids all knew this, and they all behaved well. At least four of these girls are sailing with us again, so she will be getting together with friends after a two-year hiatus...but there's always room for more!

DenverVal-
wow!thanks so much! my daughter will be nearly 14 at cruisetime and she loves to IM w/ friends and email....i told her earlier this evening that i thought she would be able to chat with some people her age before the trip and that way she would already know people when she got there and she was so psyched!! her younger brother (10 @ cruisetime) would also like to find some friends early, and that makes me feel so great that we have the technology to even do this!! Is there a special place for them to post?
