Bringing groceries on plane

Twice now I have brought home (to Ohio) 10 boxes of Publix pancake mix...initially a gag gift to DH (he loved it our last trip down). They looked at me weird, but no issues.

I would throw the PB in the suitcase (did last trip)...as long as you are OK with them checking it. It WAS the first time I received one of those little notes saying that my bag had been inspected. Might been because of the PB, might not.

This made me laugh. Once I carried on at least 10 boxes of Jiffy Oatmeal Muffin Mix from Tx back home to Ca. We don't have them out here! No one gave me any trouble at all.

If you do bring groceries, only put them in a hard sides carry on. They will get demolished in the overhead in a soft side.

Mail a box of items to your resort then you'll have a box to mail souvenirs back home. We did that in August and it worked perfectly.

When we traveled in February, I packed one carry on bag with nothing but groceries. In the bag was: Coffee, Coffee filters, non-dairy creamer, sugar, pop-tarts, granola bars, fruit snacks, cheerios, instant oatmeal, my DS favorite hot dog rolls, small brita pitcher & filter, box of donuts, instant soup mix etc. I wish I had packed some apples/oranges as Disney charges 1.50 a piece :scared1:

Due to medication needs, we also had a lunch bag that contained my meds and I froze my DS hot dogs to keep everything cold ;)

If in doubt check the TSA site and be aware that the TSA may confiscate anything that they feel is questionable.

I'm surprised all that fit in a single bag.

I take groceries all the time when I travel. As previous posters mentioned in carry on luggage liquids and gels must fit in the quart baggie and be 3oz or less.

Here's what I pack regularly to take on trips...
fruit snacks, nuts, dried fruits, fresh fruits both whole and cut up, baby carrots, celery, cucumbers cut up, crackers, granola bars, pringles, instant oats, crystal light packs, gum, candy and really anything else I have laying around that I want to take with me. I usually make a sandwich for longer flights too. I put it all in a plastic grocery bag and put it in its own security bin so if they need to check it the TSA won't be digging in my luggage. After security, I put on my shoes and repack my snacks in the rolling carry on and head to my gate. :thumbsup2

Had one incident with food causing some drama...once a banana irritated a TSA agent but I lived..now I just put it in the grocery bag so at least my undies aren;t strung all over Sky Harbor Airport :scared:

I also placed items in baggies and in the Brita pitcher.

My carryon got pulled off for additional screening because I stuffed clean socks into my plastic travel mug. The screener was very pleasant about it, but she said that the person viewing the x-ray could see that there was something in the mug, so it would be better not to do that.

I have traveled with food in my carry on luggage a few times with no troubles. I brought instant hot cereal, instant coffee, tea bags, cocoa mix, single serve lemonade packets, snack bars, individual nut packets, homemade muffins (frozen solid and packed in a box to prevent crushing) as well as an electric kettle which I filled with paper bowls, plastic spoons, and paper napkins.

When I've needed/wanted to bring juice, fruit (even packaged fruit cups), or any thing else like that I've checked a bag (and packed everything in zip top baggies in case of leakage!).

When DS had food allergies as a young child I brought along things like wheat-free bread and waffles (both frozen). No one ever questioned it. I have also gone to the trouble of sending a box of food and other essentials ahead to the hotel.....much easier if you don't want to check a bag or will have your hands full at the airport (for example if traveling with little kids) and don't want one more suitcase to deal with.

Best of luck with your trip!.............P
