Bringing food OFF the ship?

When we dock at Tortola, can we bring any food off of the ship? I can't seem to find out. I'm talking both pre-packed (chips, nuts) and maybe some fruit (banana, apple). Nothing like pizza slices, hamburger, pastas or "real food".

Sometimes my 4 year old nephew gets instantly hANGRY even though he just ate 30 minutes ago! He's like a bird. I'm just trying to avoid any possible meltdowns :scared:

Thank you

Sealed pre-packaged food is fine. So bags of chips, granola bars, single-serving boxes of cereal are good options. No fresh fruit or vegetables though. Those can harbor insects that islands wouldn't want imported.

You also can't bring packaged snacks that are already open. In Alaska my son had to finish his granola bar (and I had to finish my coffee) before we were allowed off the ship.

I read on one of the posts that you can ask for uncrustables from room service (maybe from morning dining too) and just tell them not to heat it up or open it. Since it hasn't been opened it is fine to take off the ship. This is my plan for Nassau and my always starving 3 year old.

I specifically called DCL about this and then confirmed w each port since we have a kiddo with food allergies. Prepackaged food and fruit is okay, but it must be factory sealed leaving the ship. Returning to the ship, it must be factory sealed. So if you open it in port, but cannot finish it, you will have to toss it. We found individual servings of fruit snacks, popcorn, tuna-kits, beef jerky all worked really well.

I hope you are planning to bring some extra snack just incase. I have heard/read mixed reports on whether or not these have been available on board. If they are important to you, it might be worth picking up a box before boarding and storing them in the refrigerator.

Just to clarify, any fruit must be commercially-packaged fruit, like fruit cups. Fresh fruit, like apples or bananas, would not be allowed on or off the ship. I know that's what you were saying, but I could see how someone would just see the "fruit is okay" part and misinterpret it.

Don't worry, with a 3 year old I always have little snacks. I love the idea of the uncrustables but not enough to mess with bringing a box onboard.

We always scope out the options at the breakfast buffet and bring a few things back to the stateroom. We have had good luck with mini boxes of cereal and single serve milks.

Cananas also has individual peanut butter cups we always take on excursions. My backpack is always full of bottled water, Uncrustables, individual cereal boxes and peanut butter.
