I saw on the Universal site about locker rental for storing bags when you go on the thrill rides. I've never had a problem with this at Disney. Even Everest and the Rock n Roller Coaster, I just put the backpack under my legs and thread one leg through the straps just in case. Do they not let you take your backpack on any rides at Universal? If so, which ones? If it's just recommended but not mandatory, that's cool, I'll keep the bag with me.

Thanks!!!! :)

You can not carry on any bags on most of the rides at Universal...especially the coasters. You would need to leave them with a non-rider or put them in a free locker. They will turn you away if they see you with a bag trying to get on the ride.

Okay, I just checked the Ultimate Guide-

Rides that don't allow any bags & have lockers

US
Men In Black
Mummy

IOA
Dueling Dragons

There are lockers at Jurassic Park too, but those are not free.

the lockers are free for a bout one hour, i think. so before you get in line put purses and backpacks in lockers. fanny packs are ok as long as they are clipped. my wife had a purse that she tried to tie around her waist like a fanny pack, and she couldnt use it. this was on dueling dragons, and they stopped her after she was on the coaster.

Required (free locker while you ride):

Hulk, Dragons, MIB, Mummy

Not required (must pay if you want, usually $2/hr with max of $14)

Ripsaw, Barges, J Park River,

Classic line "it's not a bag, it's a purse!"
Classic reply "if you can put stuff in it, it's a bag. It goes in a locker."

Oh, the lines you'll hear when working at a no-bags-allowed attraction. :rolleyes1

And as been started: Hulk, Dragons, Mummy, and MIB have free lockers for you to put your stuff in.

Does that mean I have to take off my cargo pants!:rolleyes1

Just kidding!:rotfl2:

My DH had a water bottle in the pocket of his cargo shorts on the Mummy, and the team member made him take it out and throw it away or get off the ride.

Try to wear cargo shorts/pants that have lots of pockets and only take stuff you really need. I always wear cargo shorts but have the pockets full and never have a problem.

cargo pants (as long as junk isn't hanging out of it, although we've had no issue with the smaller refillable cups yet) always have passed muster for us.

as for backpacks, no issue with the free lockers (other than snagging one when they're busy;) )

while it's technically forbidden, since i wear a loose tshirt mostly in the parks, have no problem with stuffing a small bag down inside my shirt...just look a little lumpy:laughing: .

fyi, i'm not talking a backpack (ala a bagallini) more of this size of an overland (placer - approx 7 X 5.25 X 3.5)...holds alot more than you think

Instead of a backpack, get a good-sized fanny pack. I have one that amazes hubby at how much junk I can cram into it, and I am never required to take it off. They just make me turn it sideways on Mummy.

It's interesting that Disney does allow bags on it's coasters. If you're on Space Mountain with a backpack and you're holding it, and you let go during the ride, there is a chance it will fall onto a piece of track underneath you, thus causing a train to smash into it, causing many problems.

Of course this is the company that doesn't check lapbars either.

But yeah, at Universal, Dragons, Hulk, Mummy and Men in Black require lockers. All the other attractions you may take on with you, or there are storage bins.

EDIT: Also, the lockers are done through fingerprints. Just follow the directions on the screen at the lockers. They are very clear. It surprises me how many people have locker problems.

::yes:: ::yes::

Your fingerprint opens the locker?! Wow, that's impressive!

^Yep, no need to mash your finger onto the sanner either. I see a lot of people do that and all that comes up is a giant black blob.

Please write down what locker number and what section your in. Nothing more frustrating then someone trying to open a locker that's on the other side.

QUESTION:
Does the "free" time vary with how long the standby line is?

One thing you have to remember about Disney is the general lack of true thrill rides. I'm surprised they actually allow backpacks on any of the coasters. Someone already mentioned the technical problems it would cause if a bag got loose and fell on the track, but what about the possible injuries? The rule isn't just to protect your stuff, it's to protect the other passengers. I'm really amazed Disney hasn't considered the possible lawsuits. I wonder if the rules exist, but it's just general lack of knowledge among the Disney staff of how dangerous that can be, so they let it slide? :confused3 Do they all work on multiple rides/attractions and just forget? I seem to rememeber having my bags taken from me and put on the other side of the Rockin' Roller Coaster to be picked up after the ride in years past. This might be something to bring up to someone at Disney....
