Bringing Au Pair

Hi- we are considering bringing our au pair with us on a trip in November. Right now me, DH and DS #1 and DS $2 will be in a standard room at the Poly. I think it will be very uncomfortable have our au pair stay in the same room as us so I am looking into different alternatives.

I have priced our 1 bedroom suites and they are out of our price range (DH really wants to stay at one of the hotel on the monorail line so our options are some what limited). The only other alternative I can think of is if we get her her own room at one of the value resorts. Are there any other alternatives that I am not thinking of? I should add that we are not asking the au pair to work while at Disney, she just loves Disney as much as we do and really would like to come.

Haven't used them, but helping hands offers vacation nannys. I have used care.com and been pleased with vacation babysitters.

Did you look at renting points from people/websites?

Also check various Disney TAs as they sometimes have discounts. The one I used does at times.

Is she going to be alone? Just thinking of the headache meeting up at the parks if she is at another resort. So it may not be fun for her having to meet you guys everywhere.

I would not leave her at a value while you stay Deluxe. I would get a nanny as suggested above.

ETA: Logistically, this is going to be a nightmare. Just traveling and meeting up is going to require planning,

I would just rent a house, but I have a lot more children. Renting a DVC unit would be a viable option for your family.

They can join you at the pool, if that was a concern. What about looking into a 1 bedroom at the GF or Contemporary? You can rent points like the PP said.

If the poly starts scanning magic bands to use their new pool, the nanny who is staying at a value resort will be out of luck.

If she's not there to work and this is her vacation, I see nothing wrong with paying for her to stay in a value. I think she would appreciate her own space.

Like a pp suggested, the logistics of "meeting" would be hard -- but not impossible.

As for swimming, I know all of the resort pools say they are for the enjoyment of that resorts gusts only, however I've also seen on here that people ask the lifeguard if they can bring a guest and (with the exception of Stormalong Bay) they are told it is fine.

We bring our au pair with us. Since we go so often to the parks (about every 2-3 weeks) we purchased her a AP and suck it up by getting her own room that is either connected with ours or on the same floor but very close. We either stay at one of the hotels on the monorail or at one of the resorts next to Epcot like beach club. I would not place her in a value since it will be a pain to meet up and I would not go with one of those people from care.com/vacation nannies since the kids don't know who they are and may not want to spend any time with them. Our kids look at the au pair as a sister.

The pools are for the registered guests at the hotel. Pool hopping is not permitted unless you are a DVC member and even then its limited. Depending on when they go, if the pools are crowded the lifeguards can check.

OP either get a bigger room or get her her own room at the same resoret.

You can pool hop. We do it all the time if staying at one of the resorts on the monorail. We like the grand Floridian pool. They very rarely enforce it unless there are some rowdy kids causing problems.

No pool hopping is not permitted. Just because you have gotten away with it in the past, doesn't mean its permitted. Just like people have gotten away with smoking outside a designated smoking area. or bringing alcoholic beverages into the parks. I have seen lifeguards check. I have seen locked gates at pools that need a card or band from that resort to open.

My daughter loves the pool at the GF so we go there a lot. No one ever questions us and never encountered a "locked gate". Lifeguards never say anything.

and while that may be true, if the op runs into a guard who enforces the rules saying a guy on disboards told me it was ok gets her nothing. The rule is no pool hopping. The rule of the boards is no telling people how to get around disney rules. I have encountered locked pool gates at bay lake and other resorts.

Sure, they are stealing. They are using the resources of facilities they aren't allowed to use. It doesn't matter if they want to use a different pool, it's not allowed. But, I have noticed your pattern is to post anything to stir things up which is what I think you are doing.

OP, don't worry about anyone saying anything to you if you happen to try out another pool at a different resort. They are very laid back when it comes to that. You won't encounter any locked gates or security running around the pools with scanners checking to see where you are staying.

Actually, you will. From the pool upgrade or refresh at the Poly, the pool is now completely fenced, and if I am not mistaken, your MB must be scanned to enter the pool, showing you are staying at the Poly.

To stay on topic, I would have the Nanny stay at the resort you are staying at.

Not worked up not even close. If they all want to use the amenities at a particular resort, they should pay for all the members of their party to use them. If not they may be turned away.

First, since she isn't going to be working, its really nice that you're bringing her along.

Many above touched on the main issue. If she's going to be spending most of her time with you, parks, restaurants, pools, etc., you'll all have a much better experience if you're in the same resort. If she's going to more or less be on her own, then its not nearly as important and you can put her where you like.

If she is not working then there is no reason why she should have to stay in the same resort and she might appreciate the time on her own. I would book her at a Value resort to maintain your budget. POP Century is a fun resort for any age, has great transportation and she would feel very safe and comfortable there. We travel all the time with other families and we all stay at different resorts. Only twice have I stayed at same one, one was great, one was not. We really have no issues at all meeting up in the parks. Disney transportation makes it so easy for everyone to get around. Our rule of thumb is to set up a meeting time of around 11 am so that if someone has getting ready issues or wants to sleep in or just wants to get to the park and shop or hit a ride you don't - no one is held up. That lines us up for lunch together and enjoying our day. In the evening or mid-day if you decide to leave early with your young children, they won't be upset why she might not be leaving because they aren't expecting her to go back to your resort.
