This trip I will be bringing my laptop with me. I'm staying in the Beach Club. I was wondering, those of you who have brought your laptop, do you leave them set up on the desk or put it away before you leave the room? I just can't decided if I want to leave it out or pack it up and stick it in the closet when we are out at the parks.

Thanks
Jamie

I take my laptop as well and set it up on the desk and there it stays the whole trip... I've never had a problem either.

Buy a laptop lock and chain it to a piece of furniture. When they are cleaning the rooms and people can see your laptop it will be secure.

I'm probably going to put mine in the safe, just to be sure....

I don't think the safes are big enough. We just lock ours in out suitcase in the closet, out of sight, out of mind. Most things stolen from rooms are lying out in the open. But, usually, cash, credit cards, jewelry is taken.

If my laptop will fit in the safe, I will put it in the safe. If not, I just put it in my locked suitcase. While I doubt it will get stolen if I left it out, I'm not willing to take the risk.

We haver taken the chance. DH always puts it in the backpack and puts it with our siutcases.

We always lock ours in our suitcases as well. Don't forget that the mousekeepers sometimes leave the doors open while cleaning, and anyone could slip in and walk off with your laptop if not secured! I agree with the other posters. Better safe than sorry!

I bring my laptop - I have a cable lock and lock it to a piece of furniture and put it in a drawer or something. This last trip to CSR it fit fine in the TV cabinet and it could be locked to the door of the cabinet. I would rather be safe than sorry.

I either put it in the night stand drawer or leave it out on the desk. Never had a problem with it.

the first time i brought my laptop i placed it in a suitcase and piled the other suticases on top of it. the next trip i decided not to bother putting it away and didnt have a problem. i left the room with the laptop and our digital and our video camera on the table and never had a problem. will continue to do this.

It seems that a lot of people are very trusting with their laptops. I couldn't afford to be without the information or the laptop if it was stolen. It takes so little time to hide or secure your laptop so it isn't stolen. Many many laptops get stolen every day from hotels.

At Disney, I've felt safe leaving my laptop out. I just close it up. Sometimes I'll disconnect it from the cords and slip it into a desk drawer, but the cords are a clear sign there's a laptop around if someone really wanted to find it. I've not tried the security locks, so I don't know how easy they are to deal with. At any rate, you won't be able to store it in the safes.

In other hotels, I'll generally hide everything in a drawer. Between cameras, iPods (those I do hide!!) and laptops, it gets to be a bit much after awhile. I'd like to think in our digital age, those accessories are considered just part of the environment (at least in nicer places). Then again, I've never had anything stolen from any hotel I've ever stayed in. I tend to measure risk against my laziness . . . :-)

OMG!! This is an accident waiting to happen. You are leaving laptop and two expensive cameras there for the taking. I would recommend you make sure your Homeowners covers this equipment. Disney is never going to belive you left all three of these out when you are robbed.

I second SafetyMoms cable lock suggestion. I use this method and have never had a problem at Disney or at other hotels.

The cable lock is very easy to use. I use mine at demonstrations and I secure it to the table. I am sure if someone was very determined they could get it but by having a lock on it they will probably bypass it for one that they could just grab.

I brought my laptop and packed it away every day in laptop briefcase and hid behind other suitcases. Not as trusting as others.

I just use my kensington (cable) lock. They're so simple to use, there's little reason not to use one. I have yet to have a problem anywhere (though I suppose a determined thief could be carrying a Heavy Duty set of circular wire cutters). Most laptops are designed with a lock slot so setting it up for use is super fast and easy.
