Bringing a Keurig

Has anyone ever brought a Keurig while flying to WDW? Everyone in my family likes to drink a different variety of coffee or tea and we love our Keurig. I know they make a smaller version but it still seems too heavy to bring through the airport. I don't want to rent Owner's Locker because that's the only difficult item that we would like to bring on our trips. Anyone have experience with this? I wish that DVC would start supplying them!

I understand enjoying coffee... but lugging a $100+ coffee machine in my luggage (which is overpacked already), vs coffee from Resort or Starbucks instants would be low on my list.... Of course since you mentioned it now I have to run to my Keurig and make a cup!

I hate the coffee from most of the disney resorts and dislike instant but have never tried the Starbucks instant. I use the drip coffee makers at the DVC's, but I like Nantucket Blend, my husband likes Keurig tea and my sons like the Starbucks keurig cups. Mornings in the room would be "happier" for us if we had the Keurig LOL! I was wondering about either the mini Keurig or there is a much cheaper version through Mr. Coffee. I would carry it on the plane...not put it in my suitcase.

The Starbucks instant coffee (Via) is surprisingly good. I would try it out first and see whether it's an acceptable substitute. If not, I guess it's lugging the Keurig after all! Seems like a fair # of DVC owners use the mini Keurig in their villas and are very happy.

I take a Keurig Mini with me. It's only an hour from home to WDW, so I can't offer any advice as to flying with one.

We shipped a Keurig mini to OKW last stay and keep it in our Owners Locker.

I love my Keurig at home, but at WDW I brew the coffee provided by the resort and have an occasional Starbucks instant(it really is pretty good). But my case is different as I don't have multiple coffee/tea drinkers all wanting various flavors in my family.

Not to twist your arm on the Owner's Locker, but you mention that the Keuring would be the only difficult thing you need to store. You know you can store non-difficult things like various supplies and clothing that will really lighten your luggage load. It really makes packing much easier and you don't have to schlep all your stuff through the airport/car/bus/taxi/resort. Plus you could keep the small Keurig there.

I have the smaller Keurig for travel. I bring it with us when we travel by car. In my opinion, it's a little on the heavy side to bring in a suitcase. I agree with you though, I with they'd have that style of coffeemaker in the rooms. No coffee pot to have to clean, no broken glass decanter to worry about either.

I agree about lugging a Keurig on a plane. I'll deal with crappy coffee for a week. But I do love my Keurig and my Columbian Fair trade select I get from BJ's for $37.99 for 80 K-cup

Hi last summer we brought our Mini-Keurig to Animal Kingdom Lodge and Vero. No problem at airport I carried it on you can buy the travel case. TSA just looked at it and let me take on the plane. If you fly back with it take the instructions on how to empty the water reservoir.

As a Keurig owner, I don't expect nor want Disney to use our dues money to outfit all villas with a Keurig. It would be nice if they were available on request.

I understand what you're saying but with the time it takes to clean the mess some people leave in coffee pots (and they SHOULD be cleaned after each guest leaves ANYWAY) and the breakage or carafes over time, I wouldn't be surprised if the Keurigs wouldn't pay for themselves over a very short period.

We have a Mini Keurig we bought JUST for WDW and we take it every time we go, but then again, we stopped flying and started driving the day we bought DVC so that matters, I know.

I'm not sure. Lugging one on a plane? I love mine and use my Cuisinart (home model) 8-10 times/day but lugging one while flying might cross a line, even for me.

There's a business venture for someone in Orlando...Keurig rentals.

OTOH..when ours broke, I made the Keurig K-cup in the regular coffee pot. I cut open the K-cups and dumped the coffee in the filter/basket of the regular coffee pot. It worked! Experiment with it at home. Then you can bring (or order) JUST the K-cups.

BTW, my DH wasn't too happy I did that. HE drank HIS coffee (that I've come to NOT like ) that he USED to drink before we got spoiled with Keurig.

ANYWAY, opening up the K-cups worked for me! That's what I'm thinking we'll do for our next trip.

Even if Disney were able to purchase them at a substantial discount say $50 per unit, OKW with 761 possible rooms, it would cost over $38,000 (roughtly the equivalent of at least one extra housekeeper or maintenance worker) to outfit the resort. Actually more, given they'd need extras to replace malfunctioning units. Every hotel that I've stayed at that had those units in the room had a problem with them and they had to replace it with a new unit.

Plus the coffee was nothing special, and in the time it would take to actually make enough coffee for us, as Mom & I usually drank 3 cups each in the morning, we would have preferred a regular Mr. Coffee.

And I doubt even Disney could get them for $50 a piece. Compare that to the $5 to $10 they are paying for the Mr. Coffee units, and the could replace the Mr. Coffee 5 to 10 times for the cost of Keurig.

I am not a Keurig fan for environmental reasons. The single serve containers are ending up in our landfills.

Until they figure out a way to make the little single serve Keurig containers out of biodegradable materials, I do not think Disney will even consider them.

I'm with Carol. I have resisted buying one because of the k-cup waste. But we would really like the ease of variety so I hope they can solve that problem before I give in.
