Any problem with bringing our own snorkels/masks to use at Castaway Cay? For $25 per person, I can just bring some from home.

Thanks!

:wave2: Hello

No problem bringing your own. When we were there this past October...we saw alot of people who brought their own snorkel/masks.

When are you going? Hope you have lots of fun. We sure did!!! :thumbsup2

My brother and his family brought their own snorkeling equipment on our cruise last week. It worked out well for them, and they snorkelled at all the ports. At Castaway Cay, you can get the yellow vests from the lifeguards or the rental shack free of charge.

I took my own...(it was pink! lol)

DS and I always take our own, because we both have dry snorkels and they just make snorkeling so much easier. No more spitting/blowing out water every time you surface! Plus, I don't think there is enough disinfectant in the world to make me comfortable with the thought of using a snorkel a ton of other people have used!!

So all you need is a vest...it doesn't matter that it is not a Disney vest? I may have to get my own gear too...

I wore the disney vest...I just took the snorkel and mask. I think you may have to wear the disney vest b/c it's yellow and the lifeguards can spot you...someone correct me if I'm wrong?

see pic in sig...

The germaphobe in me would have to agree about bringing your own vs. "used"

Yes, you are supposed to wear the yellow Disney vest that is supplied at no charge.

You can bring all your own equipment or you can bring your own mask and snorkel and rent fins (I think they were $10). DD only likes her own fins....we usually just bring all our own equipment and save $.

I'm sure it would have been much easier if I had fins...I don't have any and didn't want to rent them. I may go and get the ones that match my mask and snorkel sometime in the future...

I guess it is isn't a really big deal to get the disney vest...and when I thought about it, it would make sense that DCL would want you to use their vest for better visibility. I may still need to bring my own...been to CC six times and swam a little but haven't done the snorkel thing yet.

Someday, I will get up the nerve (I can swim...that's not the problem). Not really sure what my problem is!

the vests are stacked up by the water, so you just grab one and go! Snorkeling is easy! Especially if you inflate the vest so you float...so simple. You do have to deflate the vest, though, if you are trying to go and shake Mickey's hand like in my sig...lol

Maybe I need to look into those dry snorkels that was mentioned by another poster (Gina). Someday!

I just realized that's what I have, a dry snorkel. It is scuba diving equipment...lol kind of pricey for just putzing around castaway, but...I can use it if I ever decide to start diving...:rotfl:

You can bring your own vests - our look identical to the DCL ones. I think so long as its yellow you will be alright.

Dry snorkels are great, especially for kids who are just learning to snorkel. One episode of choking on a mouthful of salt water can scare a lot of kids (and grownups!) away from the fun of snorkeling.

Our dry snorkels weren't too pricey at all. Mine is a Body Glove Arid model, and was about $18. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FTYSQI) The one DS has is very similar. but the top part is bright orange so I can spot him more easily.

Snorkeling is so amazing... you just put your face in the water, and there's this whole other world beneath you. We can't get enough! :goodvibes
