We are leaving for DL next Friday, and I am going grocery shopping tomorrow. We aren't big breakfast eaters, so I usually buy items to eat in the hotel room. Also, to save a bit of money, we brought our own snacks into the park.

Last time we brought cold cereal (kept milk in the mini-fridge in the hotel room, bought plastic spoons and Dixie bowls) and Breakfast Bites for the kids. Also instant oatmeal and hot chocolate (we requested a coffeemaker in the room.) For snacks we bought fresh fruit (apples, bananas), various crackers, fruit snacks and water bottles.

What breakfast/snack items do you bring along on your trip? I need some fresh ideas!

We also do the instant oatmeal in the hotel rooms. It's a bit more filling than just cereal. Also have juice boxes and bananas with it.

As far as snacks go, I try to incorporate some high protein snacks to help curb the hunger longer inbetween meals. I buy beef or turkey jerky, mozerella sticks (keep it near a frozen water bottle in my backpack to keep cool), cashews or trail mix. If I know we need to eat lunch in the parks I make pb&honey rollups on tortillas. They are easier to pack in than sandwiches on bread.

I also like to bring the Crystal Light on the go packs to add to my water bottles before I refill them from a Disneyland water fountain.

My kids love the mini bagels and jelly too along with the other things you mentioned. The bagels can be stored at room temp. and the jelly can be in the refrig. once you open it. They like Special K Bars, Z Bars which are like protein bars made for kids, and Carnation breakfast shakes mixed with milks we get from the gift shops. (When we need something really quick to get us through.) :)

Yes, last year I also bought the small packets to flavor water bottles, both Crystal Light and Kool-Aid (for the kids.) Interestingly, they were much more readily available this year.

And also bought some m&ms, raisins, banana chips, cashews and peanuts to make our own trail mix.

Thanks, and keep the great ideas coming! :thumbsup2

DSS has requested Quaker Oats breakfast cookies, he isnt fond of granola bars (which is what I well take for me and DH). We will have bottled water, and probably some fruit.

Great thread.
TFS

For breakfast I have protein shakes. And I usually bring protein bars in the park.

For the kidlets. I bring in grapes, celery and peanut butter you can buy little to go cartons of them now, string cheese, Granola bars, and fruit leather and juice boxes. Some times we bring in sandwiches in our diaper bag but now that I don't use diaper bags I don't think I will.

And I love crystal light. It makes the nasty fountain water tolerable.

I usually stay at a hotel that offers a cont breakfast, but they are usually pretty limited. At the Desert Inn, they provide Milk, Juice, bread and cheapo pastry. Knowing they have milk and juice, I usually bring Cereal, yogurt and  (hehe) Last time I got a granola cereal and put granola in my yogurt. Plus, since they offer bread, they also have a toaster. I got english muffins. My son LOVES bagels and cream cheese.

I just went to Vons the first day I was there and bought stuff there.

We brought the cereal bowls that you buy that already have the cereal in them (got them at Target). Cheerios makes cereal bars. Bought Entemann's muffins that are in small packages (four to a box). Dehydrated fruit is easy to travel with.

We make little muffins the day before we leave and then eat them for breakfasts. We also take water bottles with, not Crystal Light (yuch Splenda!), but Country Time Lemonade packets. Also granola bars or fruit leathers (anyone heard of them?) are great for in park snacks.

My guys (both big and little) eat donuts or muffins with milk for breakfast. We always bring in our own water bottles to refill in the parks. This year we'll definately get some of those flavor packs for our water - GREAT IDEA!!!

For snack in the park, I'll just throw some PB & J Uncrustables and a couple small bags of chips or crackers in our backpack.

I noticed a coupon in the latest Costco coupon booklet (mailed to our home) that there's a coupon for a few bucks off when you buy the new Jungle Book DVD and their container of organic Disney-shaped animal crackers. I'm going to get that and fill up ziploc bags of animal crackers for the girls to put in their fanny-packs. And Santa will give them the DVD for Christmas!

Good tip about the Disney animal crackers! :thumbsup2

I saw someone else's post about muffins and was thinking the Costco muffins sounded like a good idea, too. I usually buy a whole package (I think it's 12 gigantic muffins), separate them into ziploc freezer bags and freeze them. I could freeze most and bring some along for the plane ride.

Oooh, thats a good idea:idea: Those things are huge!

cereal in the pre-packed little containers are terrific!! they don't spill all over your bag and when the kids spill them, their clothes don't get dirty and the birds get lunch. pop-tarts and granola bars are big hits. we also packed capri suns (the kids like them warm or cold). my kids always beg for the popcorn in the disneyland buckets, which by the way, it is embarassing when the parade is going to start and your child spills popcorn all over the parade path. :headache:

Speaking of the buckets of popcorn...do you get a discount when you refill them at the park or do you have to pay full-price again?

i believe last time we were there 2 years ago, they were full price (50th anniversary buckets). :scared1:

is there anywhere that gives free refills of anything in the park? there are people selling e-guides on ebay on how to get free refills of stuff, and i'm thinking to myself, if these unsuspecting folks came to the boards, all the info would be free!! i heard there are some e-guides that suggest you BUY or ASK people for their used tickets while they are coming out of the park so they get free admission.

Fruit leather is a great way to get fruit on the go, and it doesn't bruise like fresh fruit.

Also a great way to bring fruit is http://www.e4b.com/. They make fresh fruit purees (mixed fruit) in shelf-stable packages so you can bring it along. Three servings per pouch! I have to admit that they taste a lot better when chilled, however. But it's hard to eat right when travelling, so it's a great way to bring healthy fruit with you.

Hi All,:hippie:

Maybe this is a silly question :rotfl2: but are you allowed to take in your own snacks and water bottles to the parks:confused3 ? For some reason I thought when we have gone in the past we weren't allowed to take in a cooler bag:sad1: ? Would be grateful to know cause we are going Nov 30th to Dec 9th :santa: and it would be great if we could bring in our own water:woohoo: . I am not so concerned with snacks as much as the water:scared: , we don't drink soda or too much juice so keeping my family hydrated would be very costly:scared1: .

Zena :cutie:

We were just there a few weeks ago. We brought in a plastic ozarka water bottle every morning. I am pretty sure it needs to not be a glass bottle.
