Bring us a Shrubbery!! May 25-June 1, 2007!!

**Wish me luck everyone...I'm drinking barium right now for an abdominal / pelvic CT at 8AM this morning. Sometimes I think I need luck more for getting and keeping the barium down than I do for the test results. ;) **
Hope it all went well pixiedust:

Ack!! Barium! Bless your heart! Hope all goes well and you kept that icky stuff down (at least long enough for the CT!).

What great gifts! I really wish we had a trip planned now, just to get the
wine and cheese dealie...

And all the drunken mascots are making me laugh. I love it!

Lastly, Brenda, good thoughts coming your way today from Southern Cal...

And if you start feeling too poorly, just ask Honest Abe for some more morphine. :thumbsup2

You just made my stomach hurt. :scared: It's all over by now and I hope it went well!

First of all good luck with the barium (why isn't there a vomiting smilie?) and the test results!

Second, I figured I should post and introduce myself since I've been stalking :rolleyes1 ...I mean following your food report, trip report & pre-trip report for a while now. DH & I have a very similar vacation style to you and your DH and we both love us some food and booze:thumbsup2 . So your reports have been super helpful and amusing.

Third, (don't worry this is the last one) I thought this might be a good place to get some advice on ADRs. DH & I are headed to BWVs 11/1 - 11/7 and we'll be joined for most of that time by my sister and her DH. This is our first time going during the food & wine festival and we're super excited. :woohoo: Here is what I need advice on:
-For dinner on a Saturday night with 4 "adults" (some have the mentality of 8 year olds) which be your preference - Ohana or Raglan Road?
-We want to plan one fancy smancy dinner for the 4 of us (meaning I want to get at least a little dressed up). What would be your top 3 picks?
-We are torn between Brown Derby and the Sci-Fi for lunch at MGM. Which would you pick?
-Any thoughts on lunch at Whispering Canyon? I'm debating this as well.

(In case this affects things, we are not using the DDP and we are all omnivores except my sister, who doesn't eat fish.)

I'd appreciate and and all input! Sorry to hijack your thread on my first post! Keep the funny reports and the drink recipes coming!

Oooh....I've had to drink the "concrete milkshake" :crazy2: before. I wish you lotsa luck.

I'm an opinionated wench who wants to hijack this thread to give you my opinions to your questions. :teeth:

1. Saturday night dinner: 'Ohana is good for a lot of fun and a LOT of food.
Raglan Road allegedly has good food (since I haven't tried it yet) plus live entertainment around 9ish. There is entertainment at 'Ohana, but much of it is directed to kid participation. Tough call, but I'd pick Raglan Road. Brenda and Jay's food report made it look sooooo good.

2. Fancy dinner...if you want to go all out, there's always Victoria and Albert's at the Grand Floridian. It's a dining event, really. I think it's worth every penny. My other choices would be California Grill, Artist Point, or Jiko.

3. If I had to choose between Brown Derby or Sci-Fi, I would pick Brown Derby. The food is much better. Sci-Fi is good for dessert-only and watching the gimmicky film clips.

4. I like Whispering Canyon for the most part. Some servers will interact more than others. IMHO the food is mediocre to fairly good.

The Pal Mickey and Figment pics were priceless! :rotfl2: Between that and the Plankton pics, I'm tempted to take my Tinkerbell Potato Head on our next cruise......

That cake sounds great! I loooooove the Fairy Tale Cuvee.....

Good luck with the testing, even though you're probably home by now! :goodvibes

Why doesn't anyone believe me when I say that Plankton was on a recruiting mission?;)

You know what I'd like to do...pose Plankton inside the tortilla. :lmao:

Don't do it. People would just think you got a rotten corn dog.

Yikes! Good luck to you!!! :wizard:

Thanks - I appreciate that. :goodvibes

:crazy2: :scared: Hang in there, it'll be over soon... I'll be thinking of you and sending good vibes that you don't yak!

-Michelle

Thanks Michelle - it was not a pleasant morning but I was able to make it to work when all was said and done, so I guess it could have been worse. Test results on Monday...:scared:

Good luck, Brenda!!pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

Thanks Lori!

Hope it all went well pixiedust:

Thank you - it could have been better but it certainly could have been worse.

Ack!! Barium! Bless your heart! Hope all goes well and you kept that icky stuff down (at least long enough for the CT!).

Thanks so much - I actually had to call Radiology this morning and tell them that the Barium and I were having a fight and I was losing. Once I told the tech. that I have Crohns disease he was like, "STOP! We'll give you something milder once you get here...don't drink any more." I'm filing that away for future reference, let me tell you. ;)

What great gifts! I really wish we had a trip planned now, just to get thewine and cheese dealie...

If Jay and I make it out to LA in 2009 we'll just go somewhere and have cheese and wine and quote the Simpsons at each other all night. It will be divine...or insane. ;)

And all the drunken mascots are making me laugh. I love it!

I love those pictures and I love that somehow this thread became a wonderful place for a bunch of wacked out adults to behave like silly kids! And I mean that in the nicest way possible...you guys are all great! :grouphug:

Lastly, Brenda, good thoughts coming your way today from Southern Cal...And if you start feeling too poorly, just ask Honest Abe for some more morphine. :thumbsup2

Thank you so much - you are so sweet! And you remembered the Abe comment...:rotfl2: :rotfl2: I still have a stash of percocet that doesn't expire for another 6 months!

You just made my stomach hurt. :scared: It's all over by now and I hope it went well!

Thanks Lindsey! :flower3:

First of all good luck with the barium (why isn't there a vomiting smilie?) and the test results!

Thanks - I can think of several smilies that could be applicable to this morning's events that you would not want me to post here. :lmao:

Thank you for decloaking - I'm so happy to have you along for the ride. If you're amused then I'm happy, and if I can be at all helpful I will certainly try. There are some very knowledgable DISsers who pop in here now and then and I'm sure they'll give you some great advice. :thumbsup2

No apologies necessary - post when and what you want. I'm just happy to have some cyber-friends to hang with. :goodvibes

To try to answer your ADR questions...

1) I've not been to Ohana - the idea of paying that much for a luau when we're not really in Hawaii has always bothered me. Not that we've been to Hawaii, because we haven't, but I'd like our first luau to be the real deal. ;)

We loved Raglan Road when we tried it last October and we plan on going back next month. The music was great - started about 8PM and the set ran for a little more than two hours; the food was tasty, the alcohol was prime, and it was just happy happy good times. If it were me, I'd pick Raglan Road, especially on a Saturday night with no kids in your party. :thumbsup2

2) Well, for super, fancy-schmancy you should have dinner at Victoria & Albert's at the Grand Floridian. It's the only 5-star restautant in Central Florida and the food and service are divine. It's pricey, but definitely worth it, especially if you are looking for a truly memorable evening.

Califorina Grill is nice and much more casual. The other places I'd like to recommend I haven't eaten at yet...:lmao: Jiko, Artist Point, Citricos...those are all coming up but I don't have any concrete opinions to give you yet. Sorry. :guilty:

3) We have not eaten at either Sci-Fi or Brown Derby, although come October we do have a lunch reservation at Sci-Fi. I don't think you really go to Sci-Fi for the food as much as the atmosphere - Jay and I really just want to try a couple of their overpriced alcoholic shakes while watching "B" movies. Gotta admit - the menu at Brown Derby doesn't do much for me so odds are we'll never eat there. If you decide to try that instead you'll have to review it for the rest of us. :goodvibes

4) All I know about Whispering Canyon is that it's very loud. We've never been there, either, so I'm worthless on this one, too.

I'm no good at everything. :lmao:

Thanks so much for reading and posting - I hope you'll ask as many questions as you want to. :goodvibes

Oooh....I've had to drink the "concrete milkshake" :crazy2: before. I wish you lotsa luck.

Thanks Lori! Concrete milkshake...:rotfl2:

The secret is that for their ER patients or more sensitive folk they have a much easier-to-drink solution. The stuff they gave me this morning at the hospital tasted like weak purple kool-aid and I didn't have any nasty side effects from it. Finished it in about 5 minutes.

I have to admit, though, that I had a brief "Jim Jones" moment there when the technician handed me a paper cup with purple kool-aid...

Yeah, what Lori said! :lmao: All joking aside for a moment, you should give her advice serious consideration. :thumbsup2

00058s76

Don't you just love the alcoholic mascots? We're going to have to start an AA group just for them. :lmao:

You have to take Tinkerbell Potato Head on the cruise...that would be great!

That cake sounds great! I loooooove the Fairy Tale Cuvee.....

Good luck with the testing, even though you're probably home by now! :goodvibes

I can't wait to see how the "cake" turns out, and if for any reason I'm not satisfied, I'll just drink the Cuvee and then it will be all better! ;)

Thanks for the good wishes, Erica. Still had to go to work today (boo!) but then I treated myself to a spa manicure (yay!) once I escaped the office this afternoon.

The Tinkerbell Potato Head could make for some great pictures!:thumbsup2
Agreed. Peer pressure....she must take along Potato Head Tink...

I completely agree with the Loris...;)

Don't do it. People would just think you got a rotten corn dog.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I never thought about it like that, but you're right! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

The purple koolaid mixture sounds much nicer. And free flashbacks? Bonus!

Hey Brenda! Glad to see you back and that you got to stop drinking the barium! Best of luck with your test results on Monday.

The manicure sounds like a wonderful treat to end your day.:thumbsup2

And I've decided Pal Mickey will be accompanying us to the F&W Festival in October. There are just too many good picture possibilities there. I may even pry him away from DS if the kids go off with the grandparents while DH and I partake!;) Terrible parenting, I know, but DS has a fabulous sense of humor, and he'll probably like the pictures more than anyone!

I am definitely requesting kool aid the next time I have to have this test - no more concrete for me and my delicate innards! :rotfl2:

Thanks Lori! The manicure was a nice way to end the day and I went ahead and scheduled pedicures for me and Jay for the weekend before our trip.

Now I know this must sound strange... a pedicure for a man? But the spa here that I frequent offers a sports pedicure for men that's really designed to clean up their feet and make them presentable so that they don't look like wildebeests on the pool deck. I wouldn't want Jay frightening any small children with those "hoofs" of his! :rotfl2:

It's a relaxing treatment and Jay is all about relaxing - he's a good sport about this stuff and he loves to be pampered on vacation. He'll get a foot and leg massage, a paraffin treatment, and all the nail and callus work he can stand. Am I great wife, or what? ;)

My treatment of choice is the aromatherapy pedicure: You get to sit in one of those heated massage chairs, soaking your footsies in scented (lavender for me) bubbly water...then there's the leg massage...the paraffin treatment...the foot massage...I wish I was having one right now!

That's too funny! I can't wait to see those pictures when you get back! :lmao: You're right - the photographic possibilties are endless...we've already got just awful ideas for May.

And somehow I don't think your parenting is awful at all.

LOL! Nothing like having a Jonestown moment while getting your barium.

I love manicures and pedicures. I see men getting pedicures at the place I
go, as well. I don't go all out for the aromatherapy or paraffin, but the massage chair...ahhhhhhhh. It's not a spa pedicure. It's a spaaaaaaah pedicure.

I need a pedi so bad. I wore flip flops to DS's baseball game this morning and was so embarrassed - most of the other moms had such pretty toes and mine are just not ready for summer yet. :scared: Time to put the crocs back on!! That is great that you're doing them together :) When DH heard that you get to sit in the shiatshu massage chair and all, he was all for it. Not sure if he was serious or not:confused3 but now DD13 wants to go too. This family gets more and more expensive by the minute LOL Anyway, enjoy your pedis ;)

For those of you who really want to know just how goofy Jay and I are...

This is a video he made in November of Plankton trying to conquer WDW on our last trip. We just finally figured out how to upload it to youtube. Hope you enjoy it!
