Ok, how do we go about getting the good folks at Disney to bring back Vault Disney?

I sent them an email not to long ago, this is what I sent them:

Me said:
Hello,

My name is Steve Smith. I’m a 31 year old, life long Disney fan, and I currently reside in Tallahassee, FL.

I don’t know why I’m writing this; I’m expecting this letter to be “onced over” and responded to with a standard cookie cutter reply, if that. I don’t mean to be cynical, I’m just not sure how much one single letter will accomplish. But I figure I might as well try…

It’s a little after 3:00 am EST. The Disney Channel is on in the background. I really don’t watch DC anymore; the only reason it is on is because my son is here and he watches it all the time. He’s long been asleep and I haven’t turned the TV off or switched the channel yet. “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody” is on. I’m sitting here thinking to myself: Who in the world is watching this at 3:00am? And if they are, why? I get up and turn the TV off.

Then I get to thinking. Huh? I jumped on the internet and pulled up tvguide.com to see if this was a mistake or something. To my surprise, the entire week has the same genre of programs in the late night time slots. So really, I have to ask: Why are you all rerunning after-school pre-teen fluff at 3 o’clock in the morning? I mean, I’m not a TV programmer or anything but, I’m going to guess that your target audience for these types of shows would be, or should be, in bed already. This just doesn’t make any sense to me.

I would think, and this is just my opinion, that maybe the late night programming should be tailored to the people who might be watching at that hour, maybe something a little more, “adult”? Maybe something a little more nostalgic? I mean, you all have a TOME of material you could be using; stuff a lot of us “older folks” would totally love to be watching. When you have the older folks watching, you can tailor your advertising to us, the people who pay for trips and the like to Disney World, to Disneyland, on the Cruise Line etc. This would make a lot more sense to me.

Nick at Night is successful because they cater to the target audience for that time period. I’m positive you all could seriously rival that. Everyone loves Disney! It’s just a matter of what you put out when and for whom. Since when is Disney only about kids? I think there are significantly more adult Disney fans than there are younger fans. But what do I know?

Anyway, I’m sure you all know this stuff already. It was just boggling my brain a little as to why this is the way it is currently. I really do hope you can do something about your late night programming. A reply would be gratefully appreciated.

I wish you all the best.
-Steve Smith

I got back the "standard reply".
So, what to do? Anyone have any ideas?

Thats a fabulous idea - truly. I remember Vault Disney - loved it! And all those Travel shows and Food shows they show on other networks, they could be running at night... Seriously good idea.

And all those movies *we* (the 30-somethings) grew up with, could be run at night ala "Vault Disney". Like the Devil & Max Devlin!! Rememeber that movie?

I like your idea. Maybe we could just flood their email box everyday - if enough of us did it. :confused3

I know. I sent them a message basically stating the same thing over a year ago.
I still can't understand why they have any teen or kid shows on there after 11pm. I would say that 11pm - 5/6am is prime Disney adult targeting time. I know that a year ago when I wasn't working (and had cable) that I was up with the tv on until 4 or 5 am and had problems trying to find anything on. Including the Disney channel.

I also suggested that if for some reason they didn't want to bring back Vault Disney on the Disney Channel that they could do an entire channel devoted to it. There is already a Toon Disney that is targeted towards the kids. The Disney Channel, though it has some kiddie shows on early in the morning, after a certain time in the afternoon, it is all targeted towards the tweens.
So why, with all their years of movies and made for tv shows and movies can't they devote a channel towards the classic Disney? They have, after all, been in the tv "game" for over 50 years. So what if many of the shows and made for tv movies are a little dated? I still want to see them.

:)

I really don't know anymore. I've sent e-mails, handwritten letters, you name it. Nothing ever comes of it.

I think the main thing here is this - Disney wants to attract the young demographic - and they do that quite well with Lizzie Maguire and that type of show - BUT - as far as theme park visits are concerned, in all of our trips, I don't recall my teenager ever once footing the bill.

They want the older generation to pay for Disney trips, but they don't want to give us the shows we like. It drives me crazy.

Besides, what kids are up in the middle of the night to watch this rerun junk? They may as well put something on that somebody will see - it's a mystery.

What do we have to do? Start an internet petition and get a couple million signatures on it?
Really, I find it baffling. It just doesn't make any sense.

I agree! A VAult Disney Channel would be spectacular! My DH and I have been buying the collectors tins (the DVD sets) of old Disney cartoons...but I would love to flip on the tv at night and catch Mickey and the Beanstalk or my favorite Donald Duck toons.

We could start a petition. I don't believe I've ever seen one before. I'm sure we could get lots of "signatures" right here on the DIS. :)

I think I'm just going to send the above letter to Roger Iger and see what happens.
If you'd like to do the same, here's the address:

Roger Iger, CEO
The Walt Disney Company
500 South Buena Vista Street
Burbank, CA 91521-4873

You think the DIS folks would be cool with doing something like that?

I have seen topics like this on other boards since they removed Vault Disney back in 2003. It is a shame that they removed it and I too wonder what kids are up at 3am watching tv on a school night? A channel dedicated to classic programming would be wonderful as children today don't really know who the origioanl characters are or who some of the areas are themed after. It is a shame. In a simialr way it is shame that Toon Disney no longer shows the old Mickey cartoons. To compensate for this we have been ourchasing the Mickey, Donald, Goofy... DVDs so that our children who who these characters are.

This being said, I too have written letters and sent emails and nothing ever seems to happen. The last time that a person frm Disney contacted me regarding a letter that I wrote was back in the early 90s when I asked that they bring back the old MMC serials such as Spin and Marty. They called asking if they could use a portion of my letter in the programming advertisements. I said go ahead if it'll help bring them back. Sure enough they used my name and a portion of my letter :cool1: Plus I received a nice button up shirt (which sat in the closet for years).

Well, if anyone does start a petition, make sure to post the link here. :)

I'd be more than happy to start one. Any ideas on how to go about doing that?

I know that there are petition sites available where you can create one.
But I'm not sure where. :confused3
Just do a search. :)

If you just posted a link in a thread, why not? BTW, I bet this idea would snowball! If I knew how to make a website I would do it!

Call it www.disvaultpetition.com
