Bring back the good o' days, Things ..........

Eating boiled eggs on Easter that we had hidden all day and not getting sick.

Eating Sunday lunch, leaving it out on the stove and then eating it for supper and not getting sick.
Licking the cake bowl and not worrying about getting sick. I would never let my kids lick the bowl now because of the raw eggs, but I never got sick doing it.

The lunch boxes were metal and none of us had heard of cold packs. The lunch meat was warm and tasted a little weird by lunchtime, but we were fine. My older kids would not take lunch boxes to school this year because nobody else does in the upper grades, just brown bags. I had to remind myself that I survived, and so would they!

Captain Kangaroo, Romper Room, Bozo the Clown, Cousin Cliff Carol Burnett and I Love Lucy.

Green Stamps (even a savings queen back then) :thumbsup2

Cute ad jingles...Jack's Hamburgers and Fuzzy Wuzzy.

Using bathtub for Barbie's pool and trying to dry her hair by putting it next to a lightbulb. Burned it several times.

Staying out playing and not having to worry about getting abducted.

Popsicle man coming by the house and ringing the bell every afternoon.

I remember green stamps! S & H Green Stamps! My mom would get them from the A&P, and I'd help stick them in the book. Wow! Great memory!:thumbsup2

Gotta love the metal lunch boxes...my daughters just can't seem to understand just how special my metal Partridge Family one was!!! Also that special red and black plaid...loved that too when I outgrew the Partrige's!:rotfl:

I do not know if this was mentioned yet..... McDonalds FRIED Apple pie. I don't care if I die early bring back the fried pie!!!:lmao: :lmao:

What great memories!
Anyone have a "Baby Alive" doll? It looked like Chuckie and mine ended up with WORMS!
I loved playing Kick the Can and flashlight tag in the pitch black on summer nights (it was probably 8:00!)
Schoolhouse Rock and Atari were the best!
:cutie:

OMG!!! LOL MY mom wouldn't let me have one of these because of that!
"No, it'll get all moldy inside" But I DID have a Baby This-n-that where you squeeze her toe on one foot and it made one arm go up and down. Squeeze a toe on the other foot, made her other arm go side to side.
So she could brush her teeth, comb her hair and even color!

I had a Rub a Dub Doll and a Baby Crissy.

But my absolute favorite was Darci. I STILL have her and some of her fashion clothes.

I remember hearing Madonna's Borderline on the radio for the first time and thinking it was cool!

My mom saying that those bands with the guys with long hair all look alike! Come on... Ratt was not even NEAR Stryper!

And then the time my grandma came in my room and asked what was I listening to and I actually had a ortho headgear on I would wear at night with my braces! :rotfl: She was trying to be cool about the whole walkman thing up and coming.

My mom not letting me get my ears double pierced because it's to much "hardware" in the back. :sad2: Look at what people do now!

This has just been the best thread! Thanks to all for the great memories. Just a few more to share - surfer crosses, go go boots, chinese jumprope, Nancy Drew books (just loved 'em), playing railings and SPUD, red wax lips, Adam Ant cartoons, the jukebox at the park pavilion, squeezies (frozen ice cream-like stuff in little cups). And hey, now I know why I don't cook either. No Easy Bake Oven. Mom thought it was too dangerous. Although she did let me get the thing that made Creepie Crawlers. :confused3

I almost forgot this one! Who had PONG?? My neighbor got it, and we thought it was the COOLEST thing...a game that hooked up to the t.v....Wow!! So high-tech, too...with the white rectangles that knocked around the little white boxes. Awesome graphics!:lmao:

Saturday mornings at the 25¢ matineé. Serials, cartoons, birthday club-you got a free bag of popcorn! popcorn:: It was great!

Saturday afternoons, walking to the library. I think I read every book in the library children's section. :teacher:

Sunday night, Wonderful World of Disney, Ed Sullivan, and Bonanza.

In the summer, Hide and Seek 'til 10, picnics in the woods and the silence and coolness that a forest brings. :hyper:

Yep, baby oil, Noxema, curlers (not me 'cause I hated spending time like that), an ice cream treat (i.e. not every day like some kids), and chocolate milk stop half way to the cottage :drive: Mom brought a quart that was divided into SIX glasses and we stopped on the side of the road for that "rest"....it was an hour drive:rotfl: Now we'll drive 22 hours to Disney!

Skirts, dresses and jumpers at school. I remember fighting to wear pantsuits (oooh and HOTPANTS-hot PINK hotpants-to high school. Ooooooh.

Those were the days when Kids didn't have everything, knew the value of their dimes and nickels, and were carefree. Yes, there were problems, but the respect for others, rules, and morals seemed to be prevalent.

I didn't get a chance to read all the posts so I apologize in advance if it's a repeat but does anyone rememeber Chrissy and Velvet dolls?? The ones whose hair grew when you turned the knob on the back? One was a blonde and one a brunette?

I still have my Chrissy Doll. Of course I kept her nice for 30+ years then passed her down to my girls and now she's deep down in the toy chest....but I just can't throw her away.

Did anyone elses Mom take bread bags and put them on your feet, inside your snowboots for snow protection?? Or was my mom just weird?

Thank You Tag Fairy! I see I've been nailed on my pre-cable viewing habits :happytv:

We used to play it like this...

everyone had a #, and one person was "it." They threw a ball up in the air and called a #, and whoever had that # would run and catch the ball as fast as possible, while everyone else ran and scattered. Once they caught it, they would yell "spud" and everyone would have to freeze. The person who caught the ball would take 4 giant steps towards the closest person (one for each letter S-P-U-D) and then WHALE the ball at the person. If the person caught it, the thrower was out, if not, vice versa.

I can't believe I remember that. I haven't played it in at least 28 years.

I had that doll. My mom got it for me for Christmas and we were both surprised to see what happened when I turned her arm. She did not look at the box very carefully when she bought it! I think she got taller too...the doll, not my mom.

Oh, and does anyone remember U68? They played music videos.

We loved Stagelight cosmetics. In eighth grade, this weird white/pink/bluish color called Blue Roses was the thing to have.

And Aqua Net extra super hold in the pink and white can for those big eighties do's.

I also had the super cool gaucho outfit, with the redundant belt that stated "gaucho gaucho gaucho" in case you forgot what you were wearing. I also had the obligatory matching vest, that I wore with my psychedelic knee his and clogs. I was quite the fifth grade fashion plate.

Designer jeans were huge here - Sergio Valente, Jordache, Sasson and Gloria Vanderbilt. I BEGGED my Mom for a pair in 6th grade!!

Funny story:

Years ago, when I was single, I was at a bar talking to some guy and he was complaining that people watch too much TV, and more people would know the theme to the Brady Bunch than something important, say, the words to the Constitution. I told him I knew them. He bet me a drink (or was it 2?) that I didn't.

Well, I won. But I didn't tell him it was because of TV - Schoolhouse Rock.

And it was very hard to say the words rather than sing them.

"We the people
in order to form a more perfect union..."

I have read EVERY post and know I know how old every single one of you are!:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I loved watching The Electric Company :happytv:, staying up late to watch the Charlie Brown "Specials". We only saw the Christmas one once a year at Christmas but we could recite every line. It was exciting to see on tv, not like nowadays where a kid can watch a video in July.

We insisted on wearing leg warmers in July, over our jeans of course. No coats in December, they didn't go with our outfit.

Pop Rocks were great until we find out they killed Mikey!

In the summer picking wild blueberries out in the woods and eating them without our parents inspecting them and sanitizing them. That was because we hadn't seen our parents in hours!
