brightline update

No can do. That track is limited to 79mph.

The Brightline train WILL actually go 125 mph between WPB and Orlando, that has been the plan all along and the selling point for the train as a "higher speed rail service".. The 79 mph limitation you are referring to is only for the existing line between MIA-FTL-WPB due to it being a heavily urbanized area with back to back crossings in areas with heavy auto/pedestrian traffic..

Would this cruise terminal be closer/more convenient to the Brightline train to MCO than the Miami cruise terminal?
Possible DCL berth in Broward Co.
No, but it might give you more cruise options if it actually happens. The Ft. Lauderdale Brightline station is about 5 miles from Port Everglades by the shortest driving route, and 8 miles by the quickest route. Still only 15-20 minutes, though.

The Port Miami Brightline terminal will be right in the heart of Port Miami...as in walkable, and I'm sure the luggage dudes will have made some arrangements for luggage transfer. DCL also docks at Port Miami, but the cruise itineraries are probably different.

ETA for clarification: Currently at Port Miami, and also at Port Everglades, you don't take your luggage anywhere near the ships. You are dropped off by car/shuttle/bus/whatever and you are met by porters. The porters tag your luggage and take it to your room on the ship. I'm sure they'll have porters at the Port Miami Brightline station as well. They'll most likely have bus service from the Ft. Lauderdale station to Port Everglades.

Thanks! Will be interesting to follow all these moving parts!

You may want to take a look at a map .... from WPB north to the Cocoa area the route parallels the existing East Coast rail tracks and US-1 and for most of this there is a rail crossing about every 1/2 mile and the train is YARDS from residential ..... by your own statement the speed is limited here.

Not until Cocoa where the route turns west and then parallel to the Beachline expressway (SR-528) do you get away from crossings and residential and the potential for the "high speed" exists. Here where crossing are required the track is elevated OVER or tunneled under to maintain speed. This was NOT done on the north south leg . . .

Which is why the "high speed" aspect has been a significant bunch of false advertising . . .

I think this is correct. I don't think the trains will speed up until after they exit the tunnels under I-95 west of Cocoa and start alongside 528. There are a few areas between West Palm Beach and Stuart that are somewhat open, but I doubt if they'll go 125 mph there.

I know this was part of the original plan, but I do also know that it has been heavily contested by the local governments in the areas you mentioned.. Even if the train is forced to slow down through these areas, the train will still provide a much faster, safer, and more comfortable/stress-free alternative than having to drive on the Turnpike..

As I understand the train station is also going have tri-rail tracks. So you can go other places aswell

That's a stretch. Tri-Rail now ends at MIA which is about 9 1/2 miles from the port. OTOH, Brightline getting access to MIA would certainly be a big benefit, so they might work something out.

That's incorrect. Speeds will be as high as 110 mph between WPB & Cocoa; speeds will be as high as 125 mph between Cocoa & MCO. That has been clearly stated by the company, at least as far back as 2017.

My comment about the max speed being 79 mph was in reference to a video of a test train running on the existing track between MIA & WPB.

FWIW, here's a local news story about Brightline. They estimate late 2022 for completion of the West Palm Beach - MCO leg, but I suspect that is a little optimistic.

Yes, that is the planned completion of construction, but they're predicting service to start 1st qtr 2023. IMHO a year and a half is reasonable for completion, now that construction is proceeding. Brightline has a history of being late to start projects, but I think all the contracts are in place, and they've made impressive progress on the tunnels. There's still quite a ways to go on rebuilding all the bridges between WPB & Cocoa, but all or almost all are actively being worked on.

Yeah, that's the one I posted above but the link won't unfurl. If the DIS can't fix that glitch, I'm not going to on every link I post.
The links work; you just can't see them on the board. If you put them on a line with other text, at least the URL is visible.
