Maybe it's the fact that you have said in another thread that it would have been better if Disney had done it. We have long memories on this forum. ;)

not long enough memories or you would have also seen the later post (perhaps on another thread I cant remember :) ) that stated my comment was tongue in cheek as a joke.

A brief search of your previous posts shows that quite a high percentage of them have been directed at criticizing WWHP.

nah, I said pretty similar things to this thread. People choose to see only the negative comments and ignore the positive ones.

If the new ride is great it the whole land will be considered great.

If it is mediocre people will naturally focus on the fact that out of 3 rides, 2 are no different, 1 is mediocre and this will be a dissapointment after all the original hype. Just remember what this hype was at the time "NEW HARRY POTTER THEME PARK COMING TO ORLANDO" Then it was a theme park within a theme park. Then it was a land. Then it was a land that nicks existing land and only provides a small extension.

Kinda changes the perspective doesnt it? This is what will be honed in on if the new ride is not awesome.

I don't recall any Universal press releases that called it a new theme park. It was always going to be part of IOA and never a separate entrance park. There were certain other media (like Mugglenet) saying it was going to be another park though. That isn't Universal's fault.

Even the original press release calls it a land. http://media.universalorlando.com/harrypotter/news.php?id=20

And in 2007, even then they called it a park within a park

It's a 20-acre, $250+ million dollar expansion. The majority of the land was previously unused, so there you go yet again being disingenious. I've never heard Universal say anything other than it was going to be a "theme park within a theme park", and that it would be an additional "island" for IoA.

I realize it's hard to accept, but the creator was underwhelmed by Disney's bid and was thoroughly impressed with their competitor's. It's time to let it go and move on. ;)

BTW, the MK is 107 acres, and according to the CM on the safari ride that includes the parking lot. So WWHP is roughly 20% the size of the entire MK.

and yet again there is an obsession with bringing Disney into something.

I have simply offered an opinion that how well this project is rated by the public depends largely on the success of the new ride. If you want to challenge that opinion then fine but I really do not know what Disney has to do with it. Its worth noting that at no point have I stated that it wont be good etc... just that it is reliant on the success of that ride.

In case you missed it, Disney was only mentioned to add perspective to the size of the addition. There was no other comparison made.

I could have just said it was roughly 20% of 107 acres, but then no one would have known what the hell I was talking about.

And I disagree, the theming is what won them the rights and is what is going to determine how successful it is. If people feel like they are actually in a HP movie/story, it will be a huge success. The ride will be plenty good enough even on the extremely low possibility that it isn't the best ride in any theme park in the world.

I just got back from Universal a couple of weeks ago. The new Harry Potter part of the park is breathtaking. A simple "factual" description doesn't even come close to doing it justice. I, and everyone around me was mesmerized.

Phamton's comparison to the World Showcase is interesting, and pretty valid I think. There will be lots of ways to immerse yourself in the world from the books.

If you are anti-Harry Potter you might not like it. I am personally happy about that because it seems like the whole world is waiting. I think I will wait until 2011 to see it, hopefully when the crowds die down a little.

I will be reading here to see everyones reaction. I can't imagine that most people aren't going to be thrilled.

Actually, we are going, as I think most people are, to view the theming....to be immersed in the world of HP. A fun new ride is just a bonus! I don't think whether or not that ride is a huge success is what's going to keep people coming. It's going to be the whole Wizarding World!

I agree its the theming which will determine whether WWOHP is a success or not. When reviewing the information about the park , my wife was amazed at how great the castle looked, at the possibilites of picking a wand at olivanders, visiting honeydukes, and sending a letter at Owlpost. After showing her all this, Her next comment was "Wow, a new ride too. Universal has already proven how great their theming is with almost every attraction and I have no doubt our next visit will leave us feeling like we got to be a part of the Harry Potter universe. Where else can you go a feel this close to being in the world of your favorite movies.

+1

as an avid fan of HP, I was absolutely thrilled to see the world coming to life when we visited in April 2009. I've loved the photo / video updates of the progress since then and cannot wait til we have the opportunity to visit.

I LOVE coasters and thrill rides, but sadly suffer from motion sickness (barely suffered thru the Simpsons and my kids told me that spiderman would have simply killed me) but will of course try to ride the new HP dark ride (at least once) If it's unbearable, that will not affect my enjoyment of WWoHP in the least. To walk through Hogsmeade, quench my thirst with a butterbeer and simply enjoy the theming will be well worth the price of admission many times over.

Yeah this project is going to be ASTRONOMICALLY beneficial to Universal. They are already planning the budget to give to the other attractions to handle the crowds that this new land will be bringing in.

Then again, the Disney fans will show up to give the place a try, and will most likely find something wrong with the place. Examples are:

"This place is too crowded. Disney would have done it better."
"The Team Member's have facial hair!!! I don't want my daughter talking to the scary man. Disney would have done it better."
"The coasters have high height requirements! I bet this is all Universal's fault. Disney would have done it better." ....... OR the classic...
"The theming here is terrible. This looks like a Six Flags park! Disney would have done it better."
:headache:

Disney would have themed a room playing the trailer and called it a day. :cough: The Chronicles of Narnia :cough:

I was slightly disappointed that HP was really only including 1 brand new attraction, especially since the world of HP lends itself to a few varying attractions. But I trust that we could see another one in the future. But if it's as jaw-droppingly awesome as something like Spiderman, I don't think anyone will care. It's going to be a true E-Ticket in that sense.

I think this thread is done. Please remember that name calling is never allowed and so I have removed some posts, including any posts that quoted it. For further discussion on the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, I would refer everyone to this other very active thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2219505
