Hello,

Can someone briefly describe the new rides and perhaps eateries that will be part of this new expansion?

THanks!

here is a link to the website that describes it all

www.universalorlando.com/harrypotter

Hogsmeade will contain its usual attractions...Three Broomsticks, Ollivander's, Dervish and Banges, Zonko's, Honeydukes, Owlery, etc.

Hogwarts will let you explore several areas of the castle and then there will be the new big ticket ride.

There is also the Dragon's Challenge which is a revamped Dueling Dragons newly themed to the tri-wizard tournament.

Flight of the Hippogriff is the revamped Flying Unicorn that will now have Hagrid's Hut and all the trimmings.

No problem.

There are a couple of shops and resteraunts. They have given 2 existing rides a lick of paint and called them something else. Other than that there is only 1 new ride which better be good or Universal willlook a tad stupid after billing it originally a new "Theme park".

missymj, here is a link to some recent pictures of the lick of paint and new ride and the couple of shops and restaurants.

now now...

never said the theming wouldnt be great but the truth is that they have tarted up 2 rides and only introduced 1 new one.

Im of the opinion that if the new ride is top notch, like a Spiderman etc then this project will be a resounding sucess. If its average I can see lots of critisism of it due to the earlier hype.

She's probably still upset that Universal beat Disney's attempt to obtain the rights to HP in a theme park.

But instead chose to obtain all of the rights to Universals charecter stuff. stupid arent they :rotfl:

You do realize that Universal has the rights to use those characters in its Orlando theme park indefinitely, yes?

:cool1:

And yes, to let the theme park rights to the largest movie franchise in history go to your competitor is pretty not-so-smrat.

all of the rights to Universals character stuff? you mean like Shrek, MIB, Woody Woodpecker, Jimmy Neutron, The Cat in the Hat, Popeye, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Fievel, E.T., etc.

Those characters? Or do you mean the Marvel characters which Universal DOES still have the rights to in Orlando...

:lmao:

Maybe some research would help

And Disney is duplicating a ride and adding only one new one...sure the theming will be great but it's just meet and greets and a couple of eateries... :confused3

One of, if not the primary reason Rowling awarded the rights to Universal was because of the theming - not necessarily the ride. The idea was to recreate as closely as possible the look and feel of Hogsmeade and Hogwarts, basically to make you feel as if you were in the story itself.

I will explain something really simple to you.

Just because you can also name something that Disney has done bad does not mean that what I have wrote about the HP project is wrong. One does not disprove the other.

I have at no point commented on Disney. It is completely irrelevant. What I have wrote about the HP project is true and answers the question asked only some sad people cant help but convert it into a Disney V Universal argument.

Perhaps it's just tiring, the amount of Universal bashing that goes on here, that a potentially great new land opens up and suddenly people are already coming to criticize it...its gets old fast.

World Showcase in Epcot is an amazing park and yet it only has 2 mediocre rides (one in Mexico and the other in Norway.) That still does not make the park a waste of time. The same can be said of the Harry Potter land. I don't know if you have had a chance to visit Islands of Adventure lately, but I was there a couple of weeks ago and the entire project is breathtaking. I can just imagine how amazing it will be when it is finished.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will be more than just the rides it offers. I think it will be a tremendous addition to the park just as World Showcase is a tremendous addition to Epcot. I do expect that the new ride will be state of the art and am very glad that Dueling Dragons isn't going to be torn down to make way for it. DD is a great ride now, so why change it, other than to fit the theme of Harry Potter?

And about Disney buying the Marvel characters: Universal Studios has rights for use of these characters for any theme parks east of the Mississippi so don't expect to see them in Orlando except at Universal Studios/IoA. That's a lot of money for Disney to spend on characters that they can only use at Disneyland and their parks overseas.

Then perhaps next time you may want to consider giving accurate information, because what you have written is an intentional exaggeration designed to make it look as if Universal is somehow skimping on it.

Some sad people feel the need to deliberately mislead other people that have genuinely come looking for information on the biggest theme park news in the world right now.

Basically it is just melly who likes to complain about it. I think she is still upset because Disney isn't doing it. However, if Rowling approves, then I am of the opinion that it will be great!

OP, if you have any specific questions, please do not let this frighten you away from asking. We will try to answer your questions with some links and pictures.

I havent critisised it, I gave a pretty balanced view on it. I pointed out where it was just a re-hash of existing stuff but gave a pretty positive comment on it regarding how good and sucessfull it would be if the new ride is a great one. I even measured the benchmark of a greatness as something like Spiderman (a universal ride not Disney). There was no Disney bias whatsoever nor did I even mention Disney, it just has nothing to do with whether this land will be great or not.

Maybe it's the fact that you have said in another thread that it would have been better if Disney had done it. We have long memories on this forum. ;)

Not true. I waded through and cut out the hype and just got stuck into the basic facts.... I mentioned both positive and negative aspects. Ironically I would have been misleading had I stuck to the earlier official lines regarding the new "theme park"

Firstly Im a he.

Secondly I have no affiliation with Disney or Universal. I come from the UK and I love both sets of theme parks. Last time I was there in Sept I happened to enjoy Disney more however my single favourite ride was the Simpsons at US. I have no bias.
