Hi all! Thanks for the wonderful tips and stories! I have been planning our 9/26 cruise for a long time, and this board has been INSTRUMENTAL in helping me get TOTALLY prepared!!!

However, I have a quick question that I'm sure all you "old-timers" can easily answer!

I heard they reinstated the bridge tours a while back; how do I go about "signing up" for one? Do I do it once on board? It's not considered an "excursion," is it?

Thanks!

Debbie

Yes -- they did reinstate the bridge tours. We were on the 8/7 Magic and took the tour. We asked our Concierge staff about it and they got us tickets. I would ask at the desk upon arrival, to see how to get the tickets. It is not considered an excursion and does not cost money, but you do need tickets. It was an extremely interesting tour, given by one of the ships' officers. My DS 5 -- was so impressed that he's decided he wants to be Captain of the Disney Magic one day!

Hey! Thanks for the information! I hope I remember when I get there! I'll have to add this information to my Cruise Box!!! :bounce:

I have two boys, 7 and 4, and I think they'd love this about as much as your son did! :jester:

There will be information printed in the navigator about when the bridge tours are offered and where and when to pick up tickets.

I was on the 8/14 Magic and did the Bridge Tour. Sign up at guest services - they give you tickets, but they didn't collect them, or even look at them - nice souveniers. I enjoyed it, but you just stay in the walkway above the bridge looking down. Our tour guide was a Disney CM, not a member of the actual ship's crew. He was reading about the instrumaents and things from notes, and he admitted he didn't really know how everything worked, or what they did. It was informative and fun, but not as thorough as I had hoped. A Crewman did come out after the CM was finished to answer questions.

Wow, thanks for the great information.

That's a bummer about a CM doing the tour versus a crew member. However, at least they come out at the end for questions!

I'm really just doing it for my boys to get a look at the area where the "captain drives the boat!"

We were on the 8/8 Wonder. We had to sign up for the Bridge tour at the excursion desk and they issued tickets for the tour.
Our CM, Jodi, was very good with the info and at the end did get a member of the Bridge crew out to answer questions. It was very informative and fun.

Do they offer tours of the crew areas?

For those of you who signed up at guest service/excursion desk, when do you do this? On embarkation day? or do you have to wait until it is announced in the Navigators?

Thanks for the info, y'all!:sunny:

We also had a crew member, Ian, for the bridge tour on the Wonder. He was very informative, and was able to answer questions and had a lot of interesting tid bits for us. We found out later that Ian is a real entertaining joker, but he played it straight on the bridge tour and did a terrific job. (Anybody else know Ian? What a hoot!)

On our MAGIC bridge tour we were told that there is a button to turn on the WHEN YOU WISH UPON A STAR horn and one to turn it off. The MAGIC was built with only one button as it was to turn it on and it would play once. But later it was rewired to have a turn off button after the horn cycled and cycled in a port that did not appreciate the repetition as much as Disney-loves do.

You can see the bridge from the exercise room in the Spa.

And sometimes when they are docking the Captain uses some equipment in the "open-air-sticking-out-wings" by the bridge. You can see him and crew there if you stand above and look down.

PS: I never heard anyone say they got to see the crew quarters. Barb and Tony have some photos, at their website (Castaway Club) that were taken by a crew member for them. Go to SECRET AREAS, click that and then find CREW QUARTERS.
