bridge tour

Anyone on the ship can take the bridge tours. They are on days when the ship is in port.
You have to go to guest services to get tickets for this. Watch your navigator as it will tell you when they are available.
You aren't actually on the bridge but the walkway above the bridge looking down on the bridge. You aren't allowed to take any video or photographs.
It was "OK" but the crew member giving the tour is one of the entertainment staff (eg dances/helping at bingo etc) and she was merely regurgitating facts from a book, and was totally lost when a couple of folks started asking questions.
It is nice to see but don't expect too much.

Cheers,
Grumbo

a couple weeks ago. The little kids were bored, the bigger kids were fascinated as were the adults. The guide was a member of the cruise staff as the previous poster stated, but he certainly knew his stuff in the areas I could judge (engineering, safety, and electronic equipment.)

DD6 & I really enjoyed the bridge tour. She was excited to see where her friends father use to work. Ellen, from the cruise staff, did the tour. I thought she did a great job! She was very knowledgeable, and able to answer questions.

We went on the bridge tour on the Magic last September and whilst the guide was a member of the entertainment staff (we had Karen) she was excellent at presenting the information. In addition, the few questions she couldn't answer she referred to the officer on the bridge (I think she was one of the second officers), who was more than happy to answer. Not only that, but the officer told us a lot about the various types of officers and their responsibilities. It was a fascinating 40 minutes (a bit longer than the allotted time apparently because our group asked a lot of questions!!) - and well worth the visit.

Kids are allowed and my 4 and 7 year olds both enjoyed it. Tour "guide" was very knowledgable and the tour was very interesting. We took lots of picture and video'd the entire thing - don't know why Grumbo said none were allowed (unless maybe it was a security measure they have since dropped).

At the risk of more folks thinking I'm out there somewhere :)

The lady that gave our tour was NOT very good at it. She was unsure if she was referring to meters or feet, didn't know answers to some pretty common sense questions, and on three different occassions told us NO photographs or video was to be taken. She did give us a really good rundown on the deck party that night though and reminded us she would be there dancing :)

Now if others were allowed thats great. We brought our cameras with us to take photos and because if this ban I only ended up with 827 digital photos from this trip :) This was on March 9th so I don't think they've changed anything since then.

The bridge staff all hid in the little office off of the bridge and didn't want to have anything to do with the tour or our guide.

Cheers,
Grumbo

Would never suggest that anyone was "out there" Grumbo! It is amazing, though, how different people's experiences are - we were on the Wonder the first week of March '04 - tour was interesting and informative - sorry you had a dud - our pictures were neat and my 75 year old former sailor dad enjoyed watching it (he had planned to join us on the cruise, but could not).

Grumbo, I've noticed how some are better at tours, etc. than others. Just like dinner. I heard about wonderful servers...unfortunately, that wasn't our experience.

On our 2/28 cruise there were two relatively new members of the cruise staff, and two more were to be added for the 3/6 cruise. It sounds like you had a new member giving the bridge tour.
