Bridesmaids gifts

We have having a best man and a best woman (I hate the term "matron of honour"
DP is buying the BMs shirt, and I have bought him a good watch (we asked what he would like)
I am not buying the best woman's dress, although I have said she can wear what she chooses, given that she knows what colour my dress is. If I were specifying what dress she should wear then i would feel obliged to buy it. I HAVE bought her some hand made, high end pearl drop earrings, with rare copper coloured pearls. She will also have the $125 bouquet to match mine.
All in we spent around £100 on him, and £200 on her, and I think that is fairly generous?

I'm not sure of the exchange rate but I'm sure that's fairly generous. Those earrings sound really great!

I would think buying their dress was something you wanted to do, but wasn't necessarily a gift....
I just say this as my opinion, because I bought my bridesmaids dresses because I felt it was the right thing to do......
Mind you, their gifts are nothing huge or expensive.... candles, monogrammed tissues, mints and pins....

It's all up to you really :)

Well I feel like if I don't pay for the dresses and instead buy a gift, they'd have to pay for the dress anyway. I think it's the right thing to do as well...but I feel it's also a gift.

I am getting my bridal party individual gifts from arribas brothers. A week before they want me to call and order the gifts and they will deliver them to my hotel. For my MOH I am getting a small crystal cut Sorcerer Mickey, for BM a mug with his name engraved and the date and for the Bridesmaids an etched disney glass with with their names and the date -- for the flower girl I am getting a Cinderella glass crystal slipper with the date etched in.

I'd love to do something like that, but I think a lot of the party isn't in into Disney or I'm not what they'd like...the guys we're buying the ties and pocket squaures to match, and personal cufflinks (that each represents their personalities)

These days what is "proper" has really been thrown out the window. So much depends upon your income, the income of those in the wedding party, local customs, etc.

If I were in your wedding and you paid for my dress, I'd be THRILLED!!

:goodvibes Good to know!

I would think paying for the dresses would be good enough. Other weddings I have been in the gift was jewelry to wear with the dress. But i decided instead of getting our wedding party gifts since we are going to be in Florida we would give them an experience instead something they may never get to do again. So the day after the wedding we are having a dessert party just for the wedding party.

I love that idea! I've never heard of that before. Great idea

I'm planning on purchasing the dresses for my bridesmaids, and then doing some sort of shutterfly scrapbook of the wedding and the events leading to it. I wanted something that they would remember forever.
