Bridal Shower/Registry Etiquette Question

I'm having a hard time figuring why anyone would even want a small griddle. If you are cooking for just one or two, why not just use a frying pan?
Griddles don't have sides like frying pans do. It makes flipping easier.

You've proven a point here. Every one of us has an opinion on what is right or wrong about a griddle. If someone gave me a double one, I'd have taken it back. I've no need for it. I know what I want/like, just like you do... just like we can guess that a bride does.

The only thing that I don't get is why people keep registering for bread makers. I used mine a few times when we were first married (that was "THE THING" that year.) Occasionally, I pull it out and make bread, but since it isn't on my counter, I don't think about it. I'm not trying to start up anything about bread makers, just proving my point from the 2nd paragraph... we all know what we like and what we don't... sometimes things change.

and sometimes a bride doesn't know what all she may need. Sometimes I think a bride doesn't have a clue what they will really need but go for the fancy dishes, crystal, etc because they will have a nice table.

If you have never set up a house or apt. before how could you possibly know everything you are going to need or never need?

Very true and it's always nice to have advice and suggestions from those older and wiser :) I do, however, think that most couples are older when they marry now and many have had their our apts or even houses so they might actually be registering for items because they already have some things. Obviously, every case is unique, but I think gone are the days when a woman leaves her parent's house and goes straight into marriage.

Before I had kids I knew nothing. Seriously. I did not have a shower with my first two, they are adopted and we had no notice. I am unsure why this equated to no shower for my first but to my friends and family it did. When we had our Hernie-Roo I finally had a shower (the weekend before I had him. I go early) and I knew what I wanted and would need. I registered for things like cloth diapers (we use paper part of the time but cloth are great for spills and burp rags) and a lot of rather non glamorous things. My sister in law had a first baby and she registered for wipes warmers and fancy little outfits. I bought her some stuff from her registry but a couple things I use every day too. I know she ended up giving some of those outfits away or boxing them with the tags on them.

Sometimes what you think you want and what you really need are not the same. Yes you should follow a registry or at least have the courtesy to enclose a receipt but, and maybe I am old fashioned or something, a thoughtful gift given with love from someones experience is something I cherish.

I use mine almost every single day. I bought a stone for my oven and I finish the bread in there. I cannot live without it!
