Anyone have any bridal shower favor ideas? My sister in law is getting married and the shower is in March. Its been a while since I have had been in a wedding and I don't even know where to get any favors anymore! Anyone have any ideas where to buy them or something we can make? We are looking for something possibly useful and inexpensive. Nothing too cute either since its his second wedding, her first. She is in her early 40's and he is in his 50's. She really isn't into hearts and all that cute stuff.

Thanks!

For my mom's wedding I did small pear candles and said A perfect pair. or something like that. I found them online.

I have recently gotten seeds or bulbs as a favor.

Think something that will get used. Oh Bath and body works has a scent called ps I love you and they sold it in the Hand Sanitizers - the mini ones for $1 When I saw them I thought they would make a cute favor and great price. I don't see them on the website. But check in store you may be able to get them in bulk for a discount.

Let's see....I've seen magnets, potholders, and African violets.

Make the favors something edible. Cookies or candies. You could even do Hershey's kisses or m&ms wrapped in tulle. No one really needs more stuff, but there is always room for goodies.

Great idea, Java. :thumbsup2

I went to a bridal shower recently where the bride's mother ordered adorable measuring spoons on-line. The bowls of the spoons were heart-shaped, and each spoon has a little saying engraved on the handle, like "Spoonful of Happiness" "Pinch of Love" and so forth. I actually use the spoons, so I think it's an awesome favor.

OMGosh, just Googled these and they are SOOOOOOO cute! I'm sending the link to my cousin who's getting married this summer.

My DD wraps candy bars with a personalized wrapper. She also orders little stickers that go on the bottom of Hershey Kisses or Starlight mints. I used both of these for a bridal shower last January and they were a hit. She used to make the wrappers but now orders them online, they come with celophane bag things. If you are interested I will find out where she got them from.

Just a thought - for our wedding we donated to a charity instead of giving favours. Any favour I have gotten has pretty much ended up in the garbage (sorry) so I felt it would make more sense to donate to a worthy cause.

I like the little tree's (not sure what it is called...a seedling possibly). You plant them in honor of the family.

I thought of a couple of other ideas.

Votive candles. I don't know if Yankee Candle is still selling personalized ones, and if they do, how many is a minimum order. But you might be able to find inexpensive votive holders at a craft store or somewhere like Target.

Plants. Primrose in little pots are in stores now. In the coming months, they'll be selling annuals like impatiens or geranium that could be potted in something cute, like a tiny terra cotta pot.

Thanks these are all great! I'm compiling a list and prices and going to go over them with my other sister in law (the matron of honor).

If anyone has anymore let me know! Thanks!

My favorite bridal shower favor that I ever got is a Christmas ornament...(not 'Christmasy')...
My SIL's bridal party gave out beautiful ornaments that are gold mesh formal dresses. They are so pretty and each Christmas when I put it on my tree I am reminded of the beautiful event and family. Not something I use everyday, but memorable and something to cherish.

A packet of seeds for the guests to plant in the Spring, since you are heading toward Spring & planting season with a shower in March. Attach a little card to each packet that says something like "Love and flowers grow with care" or something along those lines, to make is bridal shower-y.

The measuring spoons are a good idea and are useful.

Anything chocolate is always a good idea in my book!! ;)

For my niece's shower, which had a "Christmas in July" theme (because she got married December 27, 2009, but I did the shower in July 2009) I made beaded bracelets that I put into little red net bags and hung them on a Christmas tree for the guests to take as they left.

I am not a fan of votives and knick-knacks, because I already have enough "stuff ".

if you feel a need to give a favor, make it something consumable. A bunch of chocolates, some other candies, a fancy cupcake, some homemade cookies, or even a small flowering plant or herbs in a pot. Then I can take it home and eat it then be done.

What I do *NOT* want is some cute little knick knack that I'm going to have to find a place to keep it and dust it. :headache: I definitely do NOT want what I got at the most recent bridal shower I remember going to: a wooden spoon with a ribbon tied to the top as a hanger and the brides name and wedding date painted on the inside of the spoon. What am I supposed to do with that? Hang it on my kitchen wall? :sad2: If I get something like that (or the whisk filled with potpurri) I'm going to leave it on the table at the end of the shower because I just don't have a place for that kind of thing. On the other hand, my MIL loves those favors. I think she still has the favor from every shower she has ever attended in her curio cabinet (even the netting with the jordan almonds in it from my shower almost 25 years ago LOL).

The whisk filled with potpourri isn't that bad because you can take the potpourri out, run the whisk through the dishwasher and then use it.
