Hi guys

Sorry i have another question about the application for our marriage license by mail.....

I understand you have a 60 day expiry date on the license but am i correct in thinking the following:

- You fill in the initial paperwork for the license and send to B.C
- Brevard County then send out an application to marry
- This is to be signed by a Notary and returned to B.C
- Once they receive this payment is taken and the 60 day countdown starts??
- They send back your application which is to be signed on the wedding day
- You send back and they return wedding certificate

So am i right thinking that until you have had the document notarised and have sent it back with payment thats when the 60 days begins?

I am eager to complete the initial paperwork so that we can arrange a notary appointment within the next couple of weeks, but i dont want to do this if the 60 days starts straight away and i have to apply all over again :confused3

Hope that makes sense!

Thanks all
x

Hi!

Do you live in Brevard county? If so, you have to go into the courthouse and do it. I live and Brevard and made this mistake myself. I got that same information from the website and sent the initial paperwork so they could send the items to us, as the website states. They called me a few days later and said that I had to come in with my husband to be and do it at the courthouse. They said the mail one is for people who do not live in Brevard. Not sure why the website is so misleading...

Hope that helps! :goodvibes

It seems like they will not send you the initial paperwork if they think you are too far out from the 60 days—at least, this was our experience. I would put a note into your request stating that you are in the UK and need the paperwork well in advance so you can arrange to get it notarized (you can use a solicitor since notaries are so hard to find in the UK) and see if that helps. You might also let them know that you will be departing the UK on X date, since I'm guessing you might be leaving several weeks before the actual wedding.

Thanks for your help. We are about 3 weeks from the 60 day mark now so i will be sure to put a note on the form when i send it off, see what they come back with.
We leave the UK 8 days before our wedding and obviously the license is one of the most important things so i want to make sure we are all set!

So you can just use a regular solicitor to sign, it doesnt have to be a notary? That is really good to know as there is only 1 notary in our area so i imagine he is hard to get an appointment with

Many thanks x

Hi Fonz86, we had ours signed by our solicitor and posted back to Brevard last week. I am waiting for them to email me once it arrives to see if all is okay, if it is I have to ring them with my credit card number to pay. This will then start the 60 day countdown to use the license which they will post back to me to hand over to the Officiant.

It was a bit of a drama at the solicitors as she was totally unsure as to what to do and made us swear on the Holy Bible. She then insisited on crossing out the word Notary and putting Solicitor on the forms.

To be honest, I'm not holding my breath that it will be accepted.

A couple of other UK brides have had good luck with the solicitor route recenty, so I think you'll be OK. :thumbsup2

Thanks pinkgirl would you mind letting me know when you hear back?
If lurkyloo has heard of a few going through ok then fingers crossed you will be fine!

Going to send off our initial form tomorrow, get the ball rolling

Thanks all

I heard via email from the courthouse today. Our application has not been accepted as our solicitor did not stamp it! She stamped the affidavit with their address stamp (the sort you use on the back of envelopes lol) but did not stamp the license application. Grrrrrr

Thanks for posting this so future UK brides can show their solicitors what to do!

Just a little update....

I filled out the initial forms and sent back to Brevard County's email address (the 60 day mark is still about 2 weeks away). The reply i got was "we will keep hold of your paperwork until the 60 day mark, at which time we will send out your documents".

So really it wasnt worth me trying to get the ball rolling early. I have my answer now though so i can relax for a while :rotfl:

Thanks x

When you get the forms and have them all filled out by your solicitor, if you can, do what another bride has done - scan them and email them to the really nice lady at the courthouse and ask it they are okay - then post them once you have the all clear. I wish we had done this!
