Bret Michaels suffers brain hemmorrhage

I used to work for Bret/Poison back in the '80s - in fact, I went to Disneyland with Bret back then - and some of my fondest memories are of those days. Bret is full of life, and anything short of a full recovery from this will be terribly sad, because he is a bundle of energy. I am crossing my fingers and saying a prayer that my old, old, former friend recovers.

I have a bunch pictures of Bret in my Trip Report (link below in signature) - on the first page and scattered throughout. Some are from Disneyland and some are from the old days in general. Come take a look if you are interested. Bret once led the charge to get out of the vehicle in the middle of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, and one of the photos in the TR is of him in action, just about to hop out of the car!!

...well, if you can get in touch with him, tell him that a lot of fans love him and are hoping and praying for a full and speedy recovery...:grouphug: ...and thanks for sharing some great shots of happier times...:thumbsup2

It is so sad. This is a really really scary diagnosis.

I'm really bummed. I've always been a fan but I guess I didn't realize how much until today.

I've been a Poison/Bret Michaels fan since their first album came out and we couldn't figure out if they were girls or guys by the pictures.

I am so sad to hear about this problem. I am praying he will be ok.

He had an emergency appendectomy about three weeks ago... thought he had the flu, was scheduled to go on stage, and wound up going to the hospital instead. His appendix was about to burst. They did the appendectomy and then he was recovering in a facility for diabetics... I'm assuming he had been released from there before last night, but the articles don't really mention whether he was home or not. (I know this from news reports, not because I know him!)

I'm really sad about this. I have been a Bret Michaels fan for over twenty years. From everything I've ever seen or read about him, he is a genuinely caring guy. People mock him for his hair and Rock of Love, etc... but I honestly believe he's one of the good guys.

reality is he probably wont make it. the fact that it occured around the brain stem makes it almost certainly fatal or at the very least very dibiliatating. Only 30% of people who have a brain hemorrhage 'anywhere' in the brain make a full recovery. Trust me, I am one of the 30% and have read alot of info over the years. Mine was thankfully in the occipital lobe, a little higher than his. I do suffer seizures due to the scar tissue left from the bleed. I do pray for him and hope I am wrong but just from what Ive read over the years, I dont think this has a good ending. BTW, probably not related to his diabetes, usually an undetected congenital arterial/venous defect or a tumor. Trauma too(like Natasha Richardson) can cause this condition

My Mom survived a brain aneurysm back in 1980. Like you, she also realized how very blessed she was and rare it is to survive. Her blessing happened to be her very low blood pressure according to the doctor, which caused the blood to drip out instead of spill out... it saved her life.

Prayers for Bret... and his kids.

He seems like a good guy, I hope he pulls through. Pretty dire prognosis though.

My aunt was in her mid-70s when she suffered a stroke. Of all areas, it was in the brain stem. I love her dearly and when I got the news, I was devastated because I figured she had virtually zero chance of making it considering the function(s) of the brain stem. And if she did not die, would she just be on life support? We all knew that was not what she wanted. The doctors prepared the family for the fact that she would die.

Believe it or not, she made a full recovery. It took a few months of rehab, but she was basically as good as new and 8 years later, still lives by herself and drives herself around. Independent as ever. :thumbsup2 Miracles do happen, even in the worst case scenarios. Maybe he will get lucky too. :)

He's so young. I'm pulling for him.:sad1:

One of my friends suffered a SAH 4 weeks ago. It was followed by vasospasms of the brain. She is doing well now and has no after effects. I hope she continues to do well and prayers for Bret.

Having known him personally, this has to be especially sad news for you, much more then us fans. :grouphug:

So glad you made it and are doing so good, but those are horrible statistics and don't make it look so good for him. I knew it was bad, but didn't realize just how bad till I read this.

This has to be so horrible for him and his family. I watched Rock of Love, trainwreck that it was :rotfl:, but you could see what a caring and concerned person he was. I got a whole new perspective on him from that show and no longer thought of him as some spoiled egotistical rock star but as a real, genuine and kind man.

So happy to hear that your aunt made such a wonderful recovery. :thumbsup2 Lets hope and pray that Bret can make a recovery like that also.

I haven't watched the apprentice this season, but did catch bits and pieces here and there. I saw the part where he was worried because his daughter was being tested for diabetes. I didn't hear the results though. Does anyone know how that came out? I'm hoping that she didn't have it because I saw how worried and concerned he was when he wasr waiting for the results.

I hope tmz is right. I know there was a rock drummer earlier this week that had a bad headache, collapsed on stage and slipped into a coma and died. He also had a brain bleed. His must have been really bad.

This is the lead singer of Poison, correct?

Wasn't there a WWE wrestler with a similar name? Not the same guy, correct?

My mom died from an aneurysm when she was 49. I was 23 at the time. In those days, they did not do immediate surgery. They thought it best for the bleed to stabilize for a few days. She made it through the initial bleed, but suffered a massive bleed the next day.

Today, they get the person into surgery as soon as possible to prevent any further damage. If Brett has made it this long, it is a good sign. I've known several persons since my mom, that lived through similar circumstances. One did suffer some brain damage, but the other came through with no noticeable problems. I'll pray that Brett is one of the lucky ones.

These were pretty much his exact words when Trump asked him how it came out.
"The results weren't the outcome we were hoping for. But she will be all right." Then he clammed up as though he wanted to keep details private.

My interpretation of what he said was that she was diagnosed as being diabetic. But, having been diagnosed so early, having a dad who understands the required treatment, she will be all right. (As are most diabetics who are diagnosed early & follow proper treatment.)

.

My dad had an aneurysm when he was 55- made it through the initial one- by the time the ambulance came he was speaking and commenting that it was raining- just as they got him to the hospital he had a massive bleed and was dead as soon as we shut the life support off. Unfortunatly we did not donate his organs-simply because no one asked us if we would! We were in such shock that it did not even occur to us until after the fact but my dad was in great health other than the aneurysm and certainly could have helped others if they had only asked us at the hospital!!

Here's an interview where he discusses that his daughter was diagnosed as borderline diabetic and just needs to watch her diet and take pills for now.
