Breastfeeding at WDW and on flights

I am a nurse lactation consultant and I can assure it's illegal for anyone to tell you that you can not nurse anywhere you please at any time. It's your legal human right to feed your child where ever you feel comfortable! Including planes and theme parks :) also no one can tell you to feed in a bathroom or cover up. I highly doubt any disney employee would bother you. If you don't feel comfortable nursing in public there are very nice baby care centers in the park. Feed your baby proudly and where/when ever you and baby like! As far as socially acceptable goes, remember the more mommas feed in public the more socially acceptable breastfeeding gets!!! Breast feeding is becoming more normalized every day with proud mommas feeding openly. Good for you for providing the best milk for baby! Enjoy your trip!! <3

As everyone has noted you won't have a problem breastfeeding anywhere in WDW...but the plane could be hard with a toddler. Those seats and the space in front of you is just so small. How long is your flight and how often are you still nursing? Do you need to nurse on the flight? I know some people say it will help with the ears, but that is more for little babies I think, but at this age I would forgo nursing on the flight in such a cramped space and just bring a couple of those little fruit pouches for him so suck down during take off. Other than that you should have no problems throughout the parks.

Nursing on the plane was no issue. The descent hurt my kids' ears still at that age and nursing really helped. Since airline seats are so close, he would lean over quite easily and nurse.

Never any issues with nursing at Disney, even with older nursings.

The coolest nursing thing I've ever seen was at Disney. There was a tour group from another country that was taking a quick break near us. The woman nursed her baby with both breasts completely exposed - and no one cared or even acted like they noticed! I prefer more coverage than that personally, but I thought it was really neat to see how a different culture acted like it was totally normal. (I didn't use a coverup but the most people probably ever saw was a little belly skin).

I nursed everywhere at Disney, including at the Blue Bayou restaurant when I went to DL. DS was 8 months at the time and he was a hungry bunny. The only person it bugged was my brother! :rotfl2: He wasn't used to seeing his big sis's breasts everywhere.

Breastfeeding is very easy at WDW and DL. DS hates covers, and makes me flash the world. He just loves to show me off! :sad2:

I find Boppys to be really nice for nursing. I have a travel one that folds and zips up. It has a sling so you can carry it around like a purse. It was the best "do I REALLY NEED this?" purchase ever! I used it on the plane and it makes nursing so much easier (especially since taking my actual boppy wasn't practical).

For coverups I would use a light linen baby swaddle. It was nice and provided more light coverage - not that DS used it since he wanted free and clear access - but it was nice to at least have. Plus I covered the stroller with it for a little extra sun protection and used it for a light blanket when it got cooler at night.

So, feel free to whip them out anywhere in Florida. :cheer2: Check the Florida La Leche people if you have any worries/concerns. They can give you even better advice if you are still worried.

Florida is HOT, no need to coverup. I nursed our 4 month old anywhere and everywhere during our trip

I don't BF and I am not sure if you are planning on using a carseat on the plane or lapsitting the baby. But on take off and landing, if you buy a seat for the baby, they must be restrained in the car seat the whole time so if are planning to nurse then, you will have to get creative. If you are lap sitting the baby, it won't matter.

I have nursed babies and toddlers all over WDW and NEVER had anyone say anything other than other moms congratulating me on finding a (kind of) comfortable place to sit or asking what kind of sling I was using. You shouldn't have any problem at all...just have fun!

I nursed my 23 month old both on the plane and at the parks with no issues. I would just find a bench and turn a little away and nurse her. With everything going on, most people won't even notice!!

Sorry, this is incorrect. The baby needs to be in the car seat during take off and landing only. You are free to take the baby out during the flight.

That's exactly what PP said - during the whole time (of take off and landing) the baby must be in the seat.

I will be breastfeeding my 6-month-old on the plane and at WDW next month! She is exclusively breastfed, and she eats every 2-3 hours during the day, so.... rides, lines, benches, chairs, grassy areas, show audience seats, here we come!! :cool1:

I saw a shirt that says across the chest, "I nurse in public. Stick around for the show!" Might need to pick one of those up for my trip, haha! :cheer2:

I will also add that I am modest, so I will have a cover and sling wraps/carriers etc, and I will wear appropriate clothing, but when my piglet needs to eat, she needs to eat! I don't anticipate having any problems. So excited!!!!

I breastfed my kids until 14 months and 2 years and have always flown at least twice a year to visit my parents and never ONCE had an issue. My PERSONAL issues with my daughter (who breastfed longer) were that as she got older the "feeding" was more pacifying than anything so there was a lot more playing (which equaled exposer). So I personally would have a cover. But really, however you're comfortable feeding your baby in public any other place, it should be fine at WDW. I mean realistically, if you choose to breastfeed without a cover there are going to be a few ugly looks (with that many people it's inevitable) but if you're still okay with it do what works for you and your baby. Also, I don't remember specifics of where I stopped to feed or anything, but I DID take DS to Disney at 9 months, and we never had a problem finding a comfortable place to stop to nurse.
