breast lump

Thankfully, back in the 'old day's, late 80's, we didn't have this wonderful tool to scare ourselves silly with, so I couldn't search all the heinous things it could be.

That's an excellent point. Above all, do NOT do an internet search of the possibilities. You know the worst case scenario and the odd are overwhelming that it does NOT apply to you.

But the number of different variations of "worst case" are probably mind boggling. (I wouldn't know; I refused to look.)

Once you get a diagnosis, then feel free to look. But there's no point in scaring the life out of yourself over a million things that don't apply to you.

Just take it one step at a time. Right now you're on step #2. An internet search is step #57 or #103.

Ugh..I do that ALL the time when I have weird symptoms and I worry myself sick!! Then they're gone the next day....:rolleyes1

I understand that while it may be just a small lump, the growing number of people being diagnosed with cancer these days, makes it very easy to jump to the worst case scenario.

But don't forget that we are also in a time when medical care has has moved forward in leaps and the word "cancer" doesn't automatically equal "death. Not even close.

While it's easier said than done, Try not to think the worst and Have a wonderful trip!!! I'm so excited for you!!
I think you're in the same fridge swap as me. :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I had a double whammy this year... breast lump as well as ovarian cysts... both are turning out to be benign. Try not to worry (I know it's hard) and just go through all the tests. (I found out just before I left for WDW... I didn't have tests completed until I returned - talk about overshadowing a vacation! :scared1: )

I'll be praying for you!:lovestruc

Thank you for the support, I need it so badly. I am trying hard not to worry, not doing a very good job of it right now.

Part of it is timing I am sure, I too leave on Sat. for WDW. I am so looking forward to the trip. I too have other worries right now. If you are praying please also pray for my 14 year old son who has a tumor on his foot. We see the specialist for that on Wed. and are hoping for answers so far all the doctors but, one who wasn't a specialist scratch their head and say, hum.... I don't know. His we can't tell if it is fixed or not because it is under a tendon on the top outer part of his foot. I guess with all the "Lump" scares right now I just am on overload. Then with leaving on Sat. ugh....

Thank you for listening to my concerns. I am truly thankful for my dis family.

Jakesmom504-I will be praying for you as well, we can go through this together, I will pray both of ours turn out to be nothing.

Thanks again everyone, I will try hard not to worry about it until I know more.

Jo

Deear Jo,
Your son;s sounds like a ganglion cyst. I get them in my wrist, my son had one on his foot.Remember how the old timers use to say to slam a book on them and they would break aprat ....One my daughter had acrually hardened and could not be drained. She had it taken out, but then adhisions grew. That was in a bad spot on the wrist.

A ganglion forms in the sheft of the tendons. the lubercating fluid builds. Like the fluid when your knuckles crack. On day at work I ahd to staple a thousand sheet into packets tearing the stapeled one apart and back together. I ended up with one on the wrist. THe doctor offered a steroid shot for the pain and to calm...Since I had no further stapleing I played wait and see, the wrist injections hurt....I can take pain but that is a tender spot. The fluid went down....

I had a blocked duct they found on mamagram and did the ultra sound that day. Then a followup 6 months later to make sure. It was a calcification in an a blocked duct.
There is no history of breast cancer in our family but I was terrified.
Hugs and prayers for you both,
dianne

thank you for your help, Guys I can't tell you how grateful I am for a support system like this one. This is heavy to carry alone. I don't want to tell my family because my mom is a worry wart and I know her health isn't great. I am so glad that I have disfriends to help carry it.

Funny thing about my son's foot, I thought it was a ganglion cyst and the fnp thought so too but now the "specialists" I have seen don't think so. They just don't know what it is. I still keep going back to the fact it must be. We go to Shriner's Hospital on Wednesday and I am praying for answers. And and okay to go ahead and go to WDW. :goodvibes We are leaving Friday.

I am looking forward to it. Thank you again, I am trying hard not to look up info on the internet, I think that is a great piece of advice. I will try to only come here until I know about both issues.

Thanks again.

I found one in December of last year. Don't be scared just remain positive. I went through the mammogram and u/s. Had to see a surgeon to have a biopsy done . Once they did the needle biopsy it went away. When i went back I found out it was nothing. I was so happy and relieved. I'm a single mom with 3 awesome kids. I also graduate from college this December.

I will keep you in my prayers that your diagnosis is the same results I received. Good Luck sweetie.

I went in for my annual exam today, and my MD found a pea size lump in my left breast, she said it was movable and not fixed. I have no family history of breast cancer so it never crossed my mind. Now I am more scared then I ever thought I would be. I will have a mammogram and ultrasound next week but, I keep imagining the worst.

Please disfamily help me through this. What else could it be??? the fact that it isn't fixed is good right?

Thanks
Jo

I went to my Dr. a few months ago with the same thing, it was a cist, I had one on both breasts in the same place. I now have a second one on both breasts right below the first ones. I think i'm going to make an appointment to double check them though, just for peace of mind.

Unless it's something super serious I doubt they will say you can't go on your trip. I go tonight to my MD and obviously my health is more important but unless is it really critical I plan to ask if I can just holdoff on everything, tests etc., until we get back. We NEED this trip so badly and DS is so excited as are my parents. I don't want to go for any tests and then have it all looming over my head the entire trip. Even if they can give you some sort of diagnosis this week, maybe they can hold off on everything else until you get back. Keep your head up, keep praying and keep us posted!
