I am glad it is over. I just heard about it on the news this morning.

They said the students were released late...how late?

I am so glad they got this guy! All these shootings makes you wonder what is going on in our country!! It is so senseless!

They moved the students to Victory church at 7:30 Pm. My DD is a senior at Kathleen high and I can say it was a mess at the church. They said they were letting them out by alphabetical order but DD's last name begins with A and we had the longest line. I didn't get to see my daughter until 11:00 pm.

There was over 1600 students brought to the church. The way they were letting them out was random so many from each letter of the alphabet at a time could go in and get in another line, then show I.D as they matched your name to records, then a runner would go to the sanctuary and call our your childs name over a intercom system. Then the runner would bring your child back and check your I.D again. It was a long process. But the only good thing was at least we knew our kids were safe.

Being in lock down from 11:30 in the morning until 11:00 at night with very little to eat and once they got to the church NO BATHROOM breaks, I know my child was exhausted.

I kept telling myself while waiting rather impatiently (just think of what this poor officer and his family are going through). My situation wasn't worth getting agittated over.

Deputies were canvassing the area when they saw the suspect moving around. Deputies asked the suspect to show his hands. He slowly lifted one hand and was attempting to raise the second hand when deputies saw a gun and began shooting. They may have fired as many as 100 rounds.

PenskeSth1: That puts it into perspective. They showed on the news that one student just ran. He happened to look like the suspect so cops went after him. Obviously shaken..they did take him to a hospital (according to the news). Such an ordeal and I cannot imagine what those students went through. I certainly hope that given the circumstances that teachers are lenient. Was the school open today?

Our prayers to the officers shot....It was just report that I-4 is backed up from Tampa to Orlando....hope no one was trying to get to the Disney Wonder today from that area....

A very similar situation happened here today as well. A policeman had stopped a car here, and one of the guys he stopped wound up shooting the policeman in the face. They quickly got one of the suspects, but are still hunting for the second one. They also had some of the schools nearby on lockdown like Lakeland did.
When I left work today at 5:00 I could see the helicopter circling above the area near where I work. So I know they were still searching then.
These two shootings, both here and In Lakeland sure have been the main topic around here today.
