Breaking Flying News: U.S. Raises Flight Threat Levels to Highest Point

I hardly consider pointing out FACTS, rather than posting crazy rumors, attacking posts. Why are you so sensitive?

I hardly believe that a flight attendant threw out several hundred dollars of lotion because she could could not carry it on. Yes, flight attendants usually carry on their luggage, but is there a reason this woman could not have CHECKED her carry on? It's not as if flight attendants have extra special luggage which may only be stowed in the cabin, :rotfl2:

WOW who cares???? Let it go

To a certain point I agree that there is no use complaining. However, I don't hesitate to complain if I receive any verbal harrassment from ANY TSA employees. The fact that they have power does not give them the right to "make up rules" (and they do) or be abusive to passengers. (My loudest and most formal complaint ever which included copies to my elected officals was when I saw a TSA agent YELLING at a senior citizen something to the effect that "if she tried she could walk" I then watched as he continued to yell about the trouble she was creating by wanting to be in her wheelchair. I did get an formal statement that the agent was disciplined and I never saw him at a BNA checkpoint again so maybe it helped. Your grandmother should not be treated like a criminal becasue she is disabled!)

I absolutely agree

But we do have to remember that the TSA employees are under an enormous amount of stress today. The PTB have clearly stated that they are not sure they have interrupted the entire plot. They only thwarted the British part. They have no idea yet if there were other cells elsewhere also plotting. So, the TSA employees, with only 4 hours notice to get ready, have to make sure nobody is going to blow up a domestic airplane, a very real threat. Can you imagine the stress of being the people responsible for that. The nightmares you would have if you were the one who missed that bottle of water that the nice lady was carrying, but actually had explosive liquid in it?

BUT, as CarolA says, there is no excuse for treating your disabled grandmother like a criminal!

As a general rule (prior to this even) Carry ons should be for valuables. Clothes aren't valuables. (and if you are taking your thousand dollar evening gown to Disney you may dispute that, but why? LOL!)

Valuables are electronics, jewerly, prescriptions etc. Electronics and cameras are not covered by the airline so if you check them and they are stolen then you are out of luck.

(I would consider diapers for the flight and a few extras VERY valuable LOL!)
thanks carol i actually meat should i out in in my check luggage you answered that
thanks
i am keeping everything the same but now leaving for logan earlier

And let me point out that the day I saw this abuse there was NO raised threat level, the lines weren't long and we aren't talking a MAJOR airport. (Nashville!) There was no excuse except my tax dollars were paying a bully!

This is why I would like her to let us know what her DH says..in case things are added to the list. Although I plan on being vigilant in checking, it never hurts to be over cautious. I don't want any new surprises on Sat am.

KTSMOM, just talked with DH. He says things are calming/ slowing down. They ARE allowing bags, purses, cell phones etc. Just no liquids. They also have made airflight personnel exempt (too late for that flight attendant  ) He says the passengers have been gracious. Enjoy your trip Saturday!

With the new rules, what else would fall under the "other items of like consistency"? Hand wash? Liquid base (make-up)? Just trying to brain storm so I can make sure to pack it in checked luggage.

Also, will all liquid medicines (prescription) be ok as long as in the original labeled bottle?

Yes the TSA is a joke.

In Philly two TSA agents were so intent on their socializing that they didn't even glance at the photo id's that were being presented. They just scribbled on the boarding passes and kept up their conversation.

In Chicago Midway the agents continually make snide remarks and comments about following directions and standing in single file lines when two different agents have two different sets of directions.

At O'Hare I've seen the ones monitoring the screens with their eyes closed.

Until they hire some people that actually care about the importance of their job we aren't really any more safe flying than we were pre-9/11.

I saw them. I had no problem with them being there with thier weapons. Trust me, I work for the airlines. I know the airport security procedures. I will say they do a good job most of the time. I will reserve comment on all other security issues that I know of.

Well I think it's a joke that they made them run the weapons thru the scanners. Weren't they SUPPOSE to have bullets etc? (let's hope so!) That's an example of someone not really thinking. What did running them thru prove? It's not like they were going to take the guns away, we WANTED them in the airport.....

As for liquids, for the time being err on the side of caution. If its NOT solid it's a liquid. So if you use liquid foundation, consider it a liquid. Same for that purell stuff, roll on deoderants, liquid blush etc. if you want to risk it, be prepared to lose it....

Will aerosols still be allowed? Or is that considered a liquid?

Ya, that was the joke I was talking about. It wasnt the Guard members. It was the way TSA and security handled it. I see that MA Govener Romney deployed the guard to Boston.

I wonder if any of those missing 11 "students" going to Montana State have something to say about this. I heard they found 3 of them, but that still leaves another 8 missing.

Your camera should have ALWAYS been in your carry on.

Here in the US that's still okay at the moment. But in the UK you are not allowed to carry-on any electronics - no cell phones, no computers, no blackberries, no cameras etc. I can't imagine that anyone would want to check those items :sad2:

It's no liquids or gels, which includes lipgloss. Baby formulas, liquid meds are allowed, but I'm sure they'll be 'inspected'.

I wondered about that too. Haven't heard it mentioned as of yet by any of the newscasters.

Yes, things of that nature. Lotions, nail polish, lip gloss, even toothpaste  I would follow the guidelines on the TSA website for your medications and anything else you're not sure about.

You don't have to unless you will be on a flight from the UK to the US. If you are flying domestically, you are only prohibited from carrying on liquids, gels and the such. Electronics are NOT prohibited on domestic flights.
Thank you. I understand the US requirements but was commenting that I wouldn't check my laptop and camera if it happens in the US. There would be lots of business folks that wouldn't be flying then.

I agree and if I was in London today on buisness I would not be flying until I could make arrangments for my laptop and cellphone. (And arrangments do NOT consist of checking it. I guess I could FedEx it home after paying for insurance.)

:confused3 I just read a news story on CNN about some woman from Georgia complaining already. She gave up her shampoo, but she wasn't going to dispose of her contact solution. "If they want to take it, they can. But I am not sure this is doing what they want it to do". Just how stupid is this woman??? The exact plot was to have the terrorists bring one ingredient in liquid form onto the plane and then have someone mix the bomb and detonate it. A plot that was foiled for flights over the Pacific several years ago consisted of a watch wrapped around explosives hidden INSIDE A CONTACT SOLUTION BOTTLE.

It just amazes me how stupid people can get over petty things. I travel on business and almost always check my suitcase. So the no liquid thing for me isnt too bad. I do carry an emergency stuck somewhere travel kit with sample sizes of things. Guess that stays home now. No big deal. For anyone who complains about this - get over it. Need we cue the tape from five years ago??

Safe travels to all!!! Let's not let these gutless cowards win - keep on flying!!!

I'm curious about this too. I was planning on packing my suntan lotion in the carry on bag. I do have an aerosol one I could pack if that would be ok??

I love good TSA stories. I have one from today with regard to our TSA, but i have to refrain from sharing it at this time. It's a doozy though. :rotfl2:
