I think the Quileute shape shifters are more magical beings than mythical creatures. That's the difference.
I finished the book last night, but was tired, so I went to bed.I did NOT like
Renesmee's name (or nickname)... oy
Jacob inprinting on the baby
The fact that there was NOT an epic fight with the Volturi. THe cullens should have become the new head Vampires and shown that you don't have to kill humans to be immortal.

I hated Renesmee's name. WTH??? If she wanted to combine names, after all of the "traditional," meaning circa 1918, points about the wedding, I was surprised that she didn't combine Edward's first mother's name with Renee's, though I can't remember what his birth mother's name was. I understand that Esme is his mother now and they were trying to honor her (with the worst name ever created) but I thought they would have bent more toward the "traditional" mother's name. When she told Charlie the babies' middle name, I thought that Carlie would have made a much better first name. It would have flowed better. IMO, if you're going to give a baby a weird name... make it a middle name that they can abbreviate down to an initial.![]()
As for the imprinting, I knew that was going to happen as soon as Bella found out she was pregnant. She went on and on about having a boy so much that I knew she was going to be surprised with a girl that Jacob would imprint on. It just made sense.
As for the Volturi fight scene, here's what I would have liked to happen: I think that Carlisle is charismatic and tolerant enough to be the leader of the family who supports and enforces the vampire rules. I would have liked for the witness vamps that came with the Volturi to have sided with the Cullen witnesses after Garrett's speech. The Volturi would have been decimated since they were out-numbered, though a few of them could have escaped to rebuild and fight again later. Perhaps some witness casualties would have occurred. The Cullens would have been left intact, as would the members of the pack. This would leave open the possibility of future conflicts with the Volturi during a Jacob/Nessie book(s). Bella could have still been one of the primary reasons that they would have won the conflict with her newly fould abilities.
As for Book 2, it took me a while to remember that it was from Jacob's perspective. Sometimes, I'd have to reread something because of the use of "I". I was so used to Bella being the "I". I didn't find it as difficult as reading the chapter in Eclipse, at the end of the book, that was written from Jacob's POV. That just didn't seem to fit moreso than having a whole book written from Jacob's POV.
Found this review that expresses my thoughts completely. It's very good, please read:

"If you dont like the book, thats okay. I disagree, but as long as you have legitimate reasons you didnt like it, you are absolutely allowed you have that opinion. But dont forget the reasons you waited for this book, why you read Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse, why you rushed out to buy Breaking Dawn."
This was the last line from her review. The die hard fans like her (and a few others around here) will never think anyone's reasons for not liking any part of the book are "legitimate".
An opinion is just that. Naturally the lovers and the haters will quarrel back and forth over their sides, trying to convince the other. At the end of the day, it's just your opinion, or mine, or his or hers...NONE of which has any bearing on anyone else or their enjoyment or dislike for the book.
I could spot all the things people wouldn't like as I was reading and I didn't like some of those things myself. In my case however, the things I enjoyed outweighed the things I didn't and so I came to the conclusion that I had indeed enjoyed the book.

This is exactly where I'm at as well. While I wish everyone did just LOVE the book..much the same way I wish EVERYONE loved Disney..It doesn't really bother me one way or the other.
I know that I enjoyed it, which is what I was hoping for above all else.
I just wish that the people that didn't like the book..again..not directed at ANYONE here..would stop being just so dang hateful and ugly with what they are saying about Stephenie!
It's BEYOND ridiculous!! That is what make me MAD..and just really hurt for her.![]()

Like the article mentioned- I think even if it was one of the best novels penned in history... fans wouldn't be happy because it was the end of the serries...
We don't want the story to end- we all want more-
Every book has something I'm not thrilled about- or wouldn't have gone there- but I'm not writing any books at the moment- so I don't have much room to speak...
Harry Potter's final book was extremely predictable- but it was still in JKR's style and was what was coming- the fact that a lot of it had been written in fan fiction previously was sort of funny- I know as I read I was making notes of direct items I had in my fan fiction...
Had I written a fan fiction for Twilight- there is a lot that was in Breaking Dawn that would have been in my story- a lot- like I said I predicted quite a bit ahead of time- and had thought it out myself- and I mentioned before I think some of the book had to be editted- and we may be missing some of SM's original story too- I got the feeling of story lines starting but being cut off- and that is either- she is planning further books- or her editor said- woah- this is getting too long- cut this cut that...
Those of us who have read her outtakes from other books- see that there is a lot of the story that wasn't expanded on in the books- that I think SM's would have liked to include-
I write for fun- when I have the time- and as you can see from most of my posts- I tend to be verbose- and go on- and on- not necessarily boring readers- but I want everything that is in my head available for the readers- and I see that with SM's too-
I definitely didn't NOT like the book- (how's that double negative)- I just wanted to see a few other things come to play- nothing I can pin point now- I'll have to re-read to figure some of that out more lol-
I completely agree. As much as I would love for everyone to enjoy the book, it's just not going to happen. All I can do is offer another point of view from which to view some events and perhaps then people can see some things in a new light, but I'm not going to try to change opinions here.
I do agree about the insults toward Stephenie. There is a fine line between criticism, which all authors need, and outright insulting. I think this fandom is very extreme and some of it's actions like this and the Comic-Con incident make me feel dissapointed in the fandom.![]()

.I find the fanfiction fact so funny, because no matter how good a book is there is ALWAYS some plot deviced that has been used in fanfiction before.
Especially with these books that are extremely famous and who's instalments come out with a few years in between. Fans get bored, they write/read fanfiction and by the time the book is out all plot devices that COULD happen in said book have been used to the extreme. So I don't think there's a way books like BD and HP could not sound like fanfiction at some point and time.
What happened at Comic-Con? I hadn't heard anything about that. Granted, I've been trying to stay away from spoilers, but still - could you please describe?
