This is a long shot but I am scrapbooking photos from our 1988 WDW trip. We had breakfast with mickey to celebrate his 60th birthday and we can't remember what the venue was. I am hoping at that time they weren't as widespread as nowaday and one of you disneyphiles will be able to fill in the missing info. My sister reckons it was at Disney Village in an old clapper board type building inside it is creams and colonial I guess?

Any ideas would be great.

Chef Mickey's used to be at the Disney Village, which is now Downtown Disney. We ate there several times before Chef Mickey's moved to the Contemporary Hotel.

No, definitely not a long shot-I'm sure a few people remember. I know we ate at a buffet with Mickey (or was it another character?) in 1989 that was at the Contemporary (the Contemporary Cafe). However, my 1992 Birnbaum's guide says he's eating at Chef Mickey's Village Restaurant in the Village Marketplace then.

That must be it then Chef Mickeys Village Restaurant at the Disney Market Place thank you

Chef Mickey's Village Restaurant was NOT a character meal, so to speak. The only character there was Chef Mickey himself, and it wasn't billed as a character meal per se. Not sure if they did breakfast there, but I had dinner there.

There was a full-fledged character breakfast a few steps away on the riverboat that is now Fulton's Crab House.

August 1990 -- been there, done both, have the photos to prove it.:woohoo:

Empress Lilly (now Fulton's) is my best guess. There use to be a character meal there. I actually went to Chef Mickey's when it was at the Marketplace and there weren't any characters there- even Mickey. It was where Rainforest Cafe is now.

Edit: I checked Walt Dated World and it turns out that Chef Mickey's wasn't around until 1990. It was known as the Village Restaurant before that. It does mention that it was one of the few character breakfasts in the early days.

I was also thinking the Empress Lily at the Marketplace (now Fulton's Crab House). We had a character breakfast on the Empress Lily in 1991. It wasn't a buffet - it was a sit down with a set menu. Everyone got the same plate of food. I just looked at my pictures and it was kind of colonial looking inside with soft tones - pinks, creams, etc. Hope this helps solve your mystery!:)

I have the 1988 Birnbaum's. He lists Breakfast a la Disney at on the Empress Lilly riverboat restaurant at Walt Disney World Village. This was a scrambled eggs and bacon meal served banquet style.

Also, there were character breakfasts at the Character Cafe in the Contemporary Resort featuring an enormous buffet (No reservations necessary!), Minnie's Menehune at the Papeete Bay Verandah at the Polynesian Village, a character breakfast at the Buena Vista Palace in WDW Village Hotel Plaza, and "Chip and Dale's Country Morning Jamboree" at Fort Wilderness's Pioneer Hall.

You know, I always thought of Donald Duck in relation to the one on the Empress Lily, because he was DS's favorite, and the Empress Lily was the only place we could eat with Donald. But I just dug out my felt flag from that breakfast (in 1989) and it listed Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Donald.
So when did Mickey start eating at the Marketplace. I know my 1992 Birnbaum lists him there in 1992. Was that his first year?

We have many pictures of our two little ones (okay not so little anymore) from 1986 and 1987 at the character breakfast on The Empress Lily. Now Fulton's Crab House.

Oh bum I finished the layout last night calling it Chef Mickeys, I will have to post a photo, I believe my sister has them scanned, I know it shouldn't matter but I would hate to leave information there if I know it isn't correct.

I belive around that tiem there was also a character breakfast with the VIP's at The grandfloridian.

The Grand Floridian opened in 1988-sometime in the fall, I think. Depending on the time of year of the picture, I don't know if it could have been the GF.

I'm sorry I was wrong.. I went back and looked at the old pictures. It was in 82 and it was at the Poloneesian. judging fromt he pictures it was goofy pluto smee and minnie in a hoola grass skirt.

Well thank you everyone my brother remembers it being on a boat so it must be Empress Lily.
