Breakfast in the main dining rooms?

Tell me about breakfast in the main dining rooms.

Not talking about the morning we disembark. Just regular days, either sea days or port days. Do the hours and available restaurants vary by day? Is it a sit down, order from a menu type of experience? Or is it a buffet?

I assume you just show up at whatever time you want?

Are you seated with others or alone?

Anything else I need to know?

Yes, there is a MDR open for breakfast. The times will be listed in the Navigator and the times are limited. The sit down is at either Royal Court, Royal Palace, Tritons's or Lumiere's depending on what ship you are on. You are usually seated alone. I believe Enchanted Garden is also open and is a buffet.

It will be table service, you will order from a menu. This is a screen shot from day one on a Fantasy cruise to give you an idea of how the hours of breakfast works. This is from the Navigator (newsletter) that you will receive each day image.jpg

Royal Palace was open for a la carte from the menu from 8-9:30 AM. They had a "bread service" of donuts, croissants, muffins and danishes, and then you could order off the menu - off the top of my head, they had eggs benedict, cold cereal, oatmeal, fruit/yogurt/granola. We ate there on our second morning and it was quite good.

Hi Cruisnfamily! We love going to the MDR's for breakfast. It's usually fairly quiet, and nice to have table service.

We love the sit-down MDR for breakfast. Relaxing (it was never crowded) and the food was better than Cabanas. The only issue is if you sleep in too late you miss it, or if you have an early excursion!

On the Magic, they offer a brunch menu in Lumieres on sea days. The breakfasty offerings tend to remain the same, while the lunchy offerings vary from day to day. I'm a big fan of getting sundried tomato risotto at 9am. :)

ETA: Last experienced the Lumieres lunch menu on 1/18/15 sailing. Dining room menus are subject to change.

I agree food is better and fresher

We usually do the Enchanted Garden when we're on the Dream/Fantasy because you can fix what you want on your plate and the selection is quite generous. All you have to order from the waiter is your drink and the rest of the way you are on your own. We'll be on the Wonder here a couple weeks in Alaska and I am wondering if they have the same set up as Enchanted Garden at one of their MDR's.

Yes, Parrot Cay on the Wonder has the same set up as Enchanted Garden on the newer ships.

Interesting. I found it the opposite the one time I went to the MDR in Feb. Also the server I had was less than attentive - perhaps because I wasn't "theirs" at night? Every time I've been to Cabanas, the foods on the buffet were constantly being replenished.

Nice that there are choices!

We do both for a little variety. But we do enjoy the breakfast in the MDR. We have always had wonderful service and the food comes out fairly quick and hot. As noted in a prior post, the times are in the Navigator.

We are on the Fantasy in September

So Enchanted Garden is not table service but a buffet? But any other main dining rooms that are open would be table service? Good info...doesn't seem to indicate that in the navigators either.

It appears to be a very short window for breakfast too. We are early risers, wish there was a sit down option earlier than 8am.

I prefer having breakfast and lunch at the MDR, specifically the non-buffet one (depends on the day, ship, etc). We have always been seated as a family, never with any other people. IMHO the food is far superior than the buffet at Cabanas. We've almost always had a very good service, the only exception being that it is sometimes difficult to get the servers to stop by to replenish our tea as often as they do the coffee.

Almost right, Enchanted Garden is a buffet that they seat you and bring you a drink but only the Royal Court is full service. I've never saw Animators Palate open for breakfast except for debarkation day. Agreed about the late opening, no problem for the wife but I'm a early riser also.

Okay breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and my favorite time on the ship. I'm an early riser and typically work out in the morning then shower/change and head to the designated MDR for nice quite breakfast. I'm always seated alone and request a table near one of the windows. I enjoy the table service and the view while I read over the daily navigator and plan my day. Okay, now you've got me anxious to be on a cruise... November cannot come fast enough for me.

YES!!! We do the same thing!!! I get up and am waiting at the door for the gym to open. We always have breakfast in the MDR. I am a mommy and on vacation! I don't want to stand in line with a tray and look for a table. We look over the Navigator too!! PLUS... It prevents us from overeating.

I was not impressed with the breakfast at the MDR (Royal Palace), the breakfast buffet in Enchanted Garden was great... but we liked Cabanas buffet a little bit more.

Just off the Magic. Breakfast at Lumieres began at 8:30am each day. I was not happy with this change, as it meant we had to rush for some activities (I.e Elsa and Anna meet and greet was at 9am). The change was due to people sleeping in and it was slow between 8-8:30 and then was really busy just before they were about to close. We ended up getting Tugboats at Goofy's Galley each morning to tie us over before breakfast.
