I disagree. I'd probably be less annoyed if they eliminated other sports like soccer as well. Maybe add twirling or competitive cheer?![]()
Your reason is the excuse the Olympics are attempting to sell. It's untrue.Disagree with what? I didn't add an opinion - I explained why softball and baseball were dropped.
Soccer is the world’s sport and one of the first organized in modern history. The tournament is a joke though because FIFA refuses to elevate it beyond a minor U-23 tournament. Europe doesn’t take it seriously and clubs don’t have to release players to participate, so the competition is diminished.I disagree. Lower bar for the winter Olympics. If we're considering Curling an Olympic sport...
Well to be fair in 2020 Summer Olympics only 6 countries competed in baseball. On an Olympic level that's fairly small pool of potential winners. That's like going from Qualifying to Finals immediately (well sorta but hopefully you can see where I was going with that example). The pandemic may have had something to do with that or maybe there was waning interest.Your reason is the excuse the Olympics are attempting to sell. It's untrue.
But, they won this round. We will see what happens in the future, like 2028 in LA.
It is more like bocce/lawn bowling, to be honest.Every so often I forget what Curling is and I have to google it, then the info goes dormant again for ages. It looks like Shuffleboard.
Is there a high chance of injury? Not asking for safety sake, just to see if it's less boring that it seems. It is more like bocce/lawn bowling, to be honest.
Except on ice and using 40lb pieces of granite.
I'm curious on your take... how do those compare to gymnastics, figure skating, and diving? Are those three "sports" in your mind? Why?nope not a sport- just like cheerleading is not a sport.
Think of pentathlon as storming a castle - you steal a horse and jump over fences to get there; swim across the moat; shoot the guards; duel/fence the evil Lord; and then run away. There are a lot of competitions in the Olympics that seem dumb. Race walking and duet artistic swimming being two that stand out... I mean if your going to have two people splashing around in pool "dancing" why not break dancing? It's actually more lively and interesting in my opinion. And who wants to watch people "walk" against each other? Might as well mention "Modern Penthathlon" as it's very bizzare as well. It's one of those things were they put a bunch of random things together just because they could. It's the epitome of oddness. If anyone doesn't know what it is, it's an "athlon" expect with freestyle swimming, horse show jumping, pistol shooting, cross country running and... well fencing because why not?
Anyways I am fine with it. It seems like watching people dance to music showing a lot of athleticism would be better than watching two people in a pool spin in a circle.

I assume they keep curling for snarking purposes. Is there a high chance of injury? Not asking for safety sake, just to see if it's less boring that it seems.

The pentathlon (which I am firmly against as a sport) is supposed to showcase the things a soldier would be expected to be able to do. I HATE it. As a professional equestrian, I find the show jumping portion of it is an abomination.
Current Winter Olympics added several events which made no sense to me. Team snowboarding/downhill or the team figure skating championship. Not really sure what they hope to accomplish but in general the IOC seems out of touch with reality. I no longer watch much of the Olympics. They lost me when they couldn't get their arms around the whole 'amateur athlete' thing and the fact they looked the other way when it was common knowledge about the flagrant doping/cheating going on with some countries. It wasn't just one athlete, but some countries turned cheating into their national sport.
