Can anyone recommend a good bread machine? Also what have you used yours for (pizza dough, etc)?

I've just started looking at these and would love some recommendations!

TIA!

these do not have to be the super expensive machines to get one that works well........I had mine for almost nine years and then I decided to get one that would make a two lb loaf also.......so make sure you can have that capability.....one that does bread and dough is really good enough...I got a welbilt and a westbend..both inexpensive .....
Check walmart and they have some neat ones....look at what you need for space too.

Have fun making bread......I love it....when you do come back and get some of the recipes I think that are on this site or I and others will give you some of our favorites.

Also remember that the key to good breadmachine bread is making sure you are very right on the measurements......

Can't remember the brand name, isn't that terrible, and I am not home to check. I think it is west bend. it was not very expensive. I picked it for making a 2 lb loaf, ease of use to program and also that it could make jam--which I have never tried. I make bread, doughs, quick breads. Love the smell of the fresh baking bread. I can get it ready at night, use the delay feature, and have fresh, hot bread in the morning.

I have a good cheese bread and honey bread recipe that i will have to look up.

Pumba is right on with the measurements advice! Also, make sure your yeast is fresh!

I would love some new recipes to try!

ETA--checked--it is an Oster. I had a West Bend, but gave that to dd.

I love my Breadman Ultimate bread machine. It was the one thing that I wanted to buy with our wedding gift money. We don't have a huge kitchen now so it doesn't come out very often, but hopefully this summer, it will earn a spot on the counter. :teeth: I've only used the box bread mixes in it, but it has lots of different modes and programs to use. The machine was about $99 at Kohls

I have a Williams Sonoma machine -- I don't currently see it on their Web site (http://ww1.williams-sonoma.com/). Another great source for equipment, ideas, and recipes is: http://www.kingarthurflour.com/shop/

I use my machine every single week. Always make homemade pizza on Friday nights by making a batch of dough in the machine in the morning and popping it into the fridge until it's time to bake. I use it regularly (and always on holidays) to make fresh rolls; again this involves using the machine to make the dough and then baking in the oven. It takes SO little effort, gives such a great result, and elicits such ohhs and ahhs (just like in the commercials -- "they'll think you worked all day!").

One idea: bread machines are often given as gifts to people who don't use them -- or people buy them, use them once, and then forget about them in the closet. Ask around the places/people you know -- you just might be able to find someone who's got one in the closet who would LOVE to find a good home for it -- that is exactly how I got mine!

The King Arthur site sells (or they can send you a catalog that has) GREAT recipe books for bread machines. I love my machine and if it ever ceased functioning, I would actually run out and buy one.

I really need a new bread machine. I don't much like the one I have now because the blade always gets stuck. I was looking at the new William Sonoma Convection machine. Do you know if that one is good?

Hi Ohana! My Williams-Sonoma machine is a few years old -- it is not a convection machine. What I'll say is that the machine I have does a wonderful job, is a breeze to clean, and I've always found that Williams-Sonoma stands behind what they sell. Is there a retail store near you where you could check the machine out and ask questions in person? I don't want to give you bad advice, but I'll just say it's a company I do buy a lot from and have never had a problem with.... good luck!

Thanks! I went out and bought the convection one at Williams Sonoma yesterday. They said it was brand new and didn't really have much info on it, but they did say just to keep the receipt and they DO stand behind their product. I'm making a low carb whole wheat bread right now, even though I'm on a carb-FREE diet at the moment
I'll let you know how it turns out.
The machine is very pretty. Lots of settings and very versatile.
