have some money saved and want to go to Branson:woohoo: it's only a few hours from where I live very affordable for us - I want to stay and the Grand Country Inn and go to the Titanic museum

here are my questions I want to go to a few other places but don;t really know what ones yet.

and I would like reviews on ripley believe it or not or is there a better place to go?

any other suggestions welcome ;) thanks

Warning - lots of places in Branson close just before Christmas and stay down for at least a couple of months. Make sure what you want to see will be open.

I went with two elderly aunts a few years ago in the winter and lots of stuff was closed.

Titanic is open all year

When do you plan on going??

Most shows are closed until Feb/March

My parents lived in Branson for 13 years and moved just 4 years ago. There are plenty of better things to see than Ripley's. And lots of good places to eat as well. I agree with the PPs, you MUST check to see what's open (as not much is this time of year) depending upon when you want to go. Also, the bus trips and kids in the summer clog the "Strip" (you will understand after you've been there). Go in April, May or Sept-Dec.

If you have young kids, there is a Dollywood kind of amusement park there too.

Have fun. You also should see the women's bathroom and the male violin player's theater. Residents of Branson went there in droves just to see it when it first opened.

Also, there are plenty of famous "older" stars who live there when their particular theaters are open. Driving by their homes is fun too.

I love Branson...

As for Ripleys, I've never been. My dad and brother thought it was ok. Nothing great, but it is cheap so it's fine for the money...

I'm not really big on the shows, but I did enjoy Jim Stafford (if you have kids) and Jim Owens (if he's even still there). His was very low key and nice. I also love the Shepherd of the Hills theatre show, but doubt it's open this time of the year. Have Fun!!!

I was going to recommend going to eat at Lambert's. It's worth it for the experience. They throw your dinner roll at you. I think there is one close to Branson.

My DH eats at the Farm House everytime he goes on a golf trip. They really like it and I've heard the apple dumplings and blackberry cobbler are delicious.

sorry we are going in July b/c that is when dh gets kids for a summer visit thanks for the heads up on Ripley! :goodvibes

Not sure how old your kids are, but mine 13 and 11 love Silver Dollar City, amusement park. It's not WDW but it has rides.

Have fun!

Go to Silver Dollar City. It's fun, cute, and educational. They also have a very small water park that was fun. They sell a multi-day pass (at least the last time we went a few years ago) that got you into SDC, the water park, and the other little park called Branson USA. I remember that Branson USA had a neat fireworks/ laser display at night presented by Kodak. It was the best thing about that park.

I just remembered, my favorite thing ever by Branson is at Dogwood Canyon about an hour south. You ride a tram with a tour guide and takes about 2 hours where you go through this nature park. It is peaceful and relaxing and really showcases the natural beauty of the Ozarks.

July is a great time to go but it can get rather busy. I would suggest going to Silver Dollar City. It's an amusement park with an 1880's theme. Also you could go to White Water which is a water park. It's actually on the "strip" so it's very easy to find. A PP mentioned Lambert's but it's about 30 minutes north in the town of Ozark. If you are going by there it's probably worth stopping to eat but if you're coming from the south into Branson I would think it's too far out of the way. Branson has many great places to eat and lots and lots of fun things to do. We loved the Titanic musueum. We went there over Spring Break last year. Have a great time. Branson is one of our favorite places since it's only about 4 hours away.

Branson USA became Celebration City (owned by SDC) and is now closed and the last I heard they've already torn it down. So Sad. It was a fun park to go to at night.

Thanks for all the suggestions :goodvibes silver dollar city is GREAT love it been there :cool1:

this time though I was wanting to just go to Branson as we have never done anything except Silver Dollar City

Lamberts I forgot about that I haven;t been but dh has and said it was great and I'm putting that on my list thanks everyone

what about Ride the ducks anyone ever done that? is it worth the money?

our kids are 15, 14, 13, 11, 9

The Ducks are fun!
Also, there is a Fish Hatchery by the Dam that is kind of neat. I love to feed the fish and watch them jump!
Branson Belle is a showboat with a good show and dinner.
I enjoyed Ripleys.

I will go along with the others about Silver Dollar City. The rides are fun, the crafts are neat and the shows are good. They also have a tour of Marvel cave on the SDC property.

The Dixie Stampede is fun. A little pricey, but you get a good dinner with it. I've heard good things about the new show Noah. It's a live action/animatronic show, and it's supposed to be good. Big Cedar Lodge is nice for a drive through and a lunch at Devil's Pool or the Buzzard Bar. The Blueberry Poppyseed dressing sounds strange and it's purple, but it's AMAZING!

We went to Branson in the winter .. when almost all the "entertainment" venues were closed.
DH and I had a lovely time. I thought people were very friendly as it was the ''slow'' season everyone seemed to like to chat.

There is a outlet shopping center where we got some really great deals. We went to a Hibachi resteraunt that was darn good.

We would like to go back to Branson and visit Dolly Parton's Stampede.
We would also like to take the grandkids to Silver Dollar City... not sure if I want to do it in the middle of summer.... too dang hot and humid for me.

There is a great cave in Springfield, Missouri that is awesome for an afternoon or morning visit. It is about 30 minutes from dwtn Branson. It has a tram ride thru it and a very interesting history. It is beautiful and accessible too.

Branson and Springfield are located in a beautiful areal in Missouri. Hills, trees, lakes.. the only part I did not like.... all of those darn billboards for the bucktooth hillbilly entertainment... creepy! LOL

Does anyone know if there are places where you can camp around Branson. We are thinking of renting an RV and camping for a couple of days out there this summer.

good info. We are going to Branson in July with my DS(7). I was looking for things to do. Of course, we'll do SDC and the water park, Dixie Stampede, maybe Titanic, not sure of what else!

I personally love Branson's Ripley's but I love all Ripley's, which is good because if you have seen one you have seen them all.

I did not like the Titanic. I found it very depressing because it really glamorizes the story of the Titanic. It also focuses on all the people who died (unnecessarily). Very depressing. Plus all the props aren't from the actual Titanic, they are just replicas. And the worst was posing near an iceberg for a souviner photo. Afterwards I just felt sick like I had been disrespectful to all the people who died in the tragedy. Just my opinion. History is important but I think the exhibit pushes the envelope on the difference of trying to teach and captalizing on a tragedy.

Heck ya'. Tons of camping. Missouri is camping central. Of course I might camp further out and go floating and do more outdoor stuff.

There is a place at Indian Point right near the cabins we rent. Not sure of the name, it might even be in a park.

Found it. Called Indian Point Campground.
